17.02.2022 Following yesterday's Australia Day Awards, we are delighted to advise our community that Jess Morrison (2010) has received a Medal (OAM) in the General Division for service to sport as a gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. We are also very proud that Sarah Stephen (1971) has received a Public Service Medal (PSM), for outstanding public service to strategic policy reform and delivery in Victoria, particularly in the areas of climate change and energy. It was very... exciting last year to witness Jess’s fabulous win last year as part of the Women’s Coxless Four at the Tokyo Olympics, and coincidently, the latest Lauriston Life (with Jess on the cover) has commenced its distribution today. All activities last year in celebration of Jess’s win continued to deepen her connection with her School. Congratulations Jess! Sarah attended her 50 Year Reunion in December last year, which was part of the Inaugural Lauriston Luncheon at Leonda. Sarah thoroughly enjoyed catching up and reconnecting with her friends from the Class of 1971 at this wonderful occasion. Congratulations Sarah, on this fabulous acknowledgement.

13.02.2022 It's been an exciting time for one of Lauriston's alumnae! Tess Coady (2018) will soon be added to our Olympic Honour Board after her recent success in Beijing. Tess was at Lauriston throughout her junior years where she discovered her love of snow sports. Her family couldn't be prouder or happier for Tess, as are we! After communicating with her family this week, the years of dedication, hard work and commitment really paid off for Tess in the most delightful way. Another... 08.02.2022 Proud, happy and relieved were the emotions felt by IB Dux Claudia Wong, who along with Amelie Graham scored a perfect 45 (equivalent to an ATAR of 99.95). Wit...h English her favourite subject, Claudia demonstrates a huge breadth of interests for her further study, with University preferences in Science, Design, IT, Arts and Journalism keeping her options open. When our 2021 co-captain Amelie received her results, she was beyond surprised with her perfect score. I wasn’t expecting it, it still hasn’t sunk in! Seven other Lauriston students scored 44 (equivalent to an ATAR of 99.75) with both Amelie and Claudia citing the close IB cohort and the support from teachers in a challenging two years as key contributors to the stellar results of this year’s IB students. Well done girls

21.01.2022 Last night alumnae from Class of 2000, from all over the world, dialled in to catch-up in celebration of 20 years since graduating! They enjoyed seeing each other’s babies and family members and hearing about the different paths they’ve each taken. They also enjoyed watching a slideshow of photos of their years as Laurie girls! #zoomeunion #20yearreunion #lauristongirlsschool #oldlauristoniansassociation #schoolforlife

21.01.2022 Lilian Irving arranged the first girls’ inter-school hockey match, between Lauriston and Ruyton in 1903 (Lauriston won!). Hockey dominated Lauriston’s sporting life until well into the 1950s, and is still part of our sports program today. In celebration of 120 years of Lauriston next year, we are collecting 120 objects that resonate 'Lauriston' with our community members past and present. The sport of Hockey and its history resonates 'Lauriston' to many past students who enjo...yed the sport. Here is a wonderful image of the hockey team in 1905. Go here to view our objects so far: https://ola.org.au/#lauristonin120objects Do you have an object or something that resonates 'Lauriston' to you? Please comment your nomination, or email your nomination to [email protected]

20.01.2022 Since the start of Term 2 we have been endeavouring to keep our community connected; from our young students and their parents through to our senior alumnae. In a recent project, we asked our students in Year 2 to write a letter to a Lauriston Old Girl. These letters were then posted to some of our Old Girls, together with a note from us and a recipe for biscuits from the Lauriston Kitchens cookbook. The recipe comes from one of our very first students, Mary Lowe (1915), who... went on to teach music at the School. Mary’s great granddaughter, Zoe, is currently in Year 8 at Lauriston. We were delighted to receive a wonderful note from Margaret Kendall (Street, 1954), who also sent a photo of herself baking the biscuits and reading the letter she received from Year 2 student Allegra. In addition to helping our wider Lauriston community remain connected, this initiative also provided our Year 2 students with an authentic writing task and an opportunity to share their thoughts on school with a fellow Lauriston (Old) girl.

19.01.2022 Tomorrow is just another day. An ATAR doesn’t define you. Some of your jobs haven’t been invented yet. Discover your passions. Chase your dreams. Embrace what happens next. #makeityourown #ola #wearewithyou #hereifyouneedus #classof2020

19.01.2022 Next month our Year 12 students will be celebrating their Valedictory. We invite all Old Girls to send in messages of congratulations to the OLA Office so we can compile and produce a video to be played as part of their Valedictory celebrations. Please take a moment to film a selfie with your phone, or send a written message of congratulations to our soon-to-be graduates. This video will show these students that there is a massive network of Lauriston women behind them who ...have, for decades, walked the path they are about to embark on. Please film your message (capped at 20 seconds) horizontally (landscape) and email to [email protected] or text to 0418 382 589. Be sure to include your name and peer year. Please share this post to your OL peer network! DEADLINE: 30 SEPTEMBER!!!! Check out this link as an example of the type of video we're envisaging: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGSPA3NpLXI We look forward to receiving your message!

19.01.2022 The OLA knows that its alumnae are a diverse and largely untapped pool of incredible talent and experience, and the Business Networking Portfolio Group would like to provide new ways to realise the potential an Old Lauristonians' Business Network could offer to its members. To provide us with YOUR insight, please help us by completing this questionnaire: www.surveymonkey.com/r/olabus

17.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those within our community and people throughout the world, in many different ways. We want to remind one group in our community, that they haven't been forgotten! The Class of 2019! 2020, for this cohort, was to be the start of a new and broad chapter - commencing university studies, some travelling the world, others working and earning salaries, embarking on internships or expat opportunities, getting licences and taking hold of that new... level of independence of finally becoming adults. But for this cohort, a lot of these plans have had to be put on hold, and some, completely modified. And they'll never really experience the normal 'firsts' in the manner to which they were initially intended. From the looks of it though, this weird and distorted year hasn't stopped these young adult women from going forth and seeking alternative ways to see this year through! Head to the OLA website as we shine a light on 2 members of this cohort - Charlotte Roberts and Molly Phillips! Go here: https://ola.org.au/ar/news_shine%20a%20light/455_1600313510

16.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago Dr Kat Vuong (2013) was invited to be part of a webinar where she talked about her experiences as part of the Gastrointestinal team at Monash Health. We love to acknowledge the wonderful things our alumnae are doing, to contribute to society, and we love highlighting the path they take after Lauriston. We hope you enjoy watching this video. 16.01.2022 At next Tuesday's final assembly for Years 10 and 11, the OLA will be awarding the OLA Irving Scholarship to the daughter of an Old Lauristonian, for high achievement and contribution to school life in Year 11. The OLA had been raising funds since WW1 to enable the daughter of an ex-serviceman to attend Lauriston. Three children were helped this way. In 1936 the OLA established the Irving Scholarship to perpetuate the memory of the work of the Irving sisters. This scholarshi...p was open to daughters of Old Lauristonians. Although fundraising lagged during WWII, by the end 1945 a considerable amount had been collected. Four trustees were appointed to administer the Scholarship. Although there was not enough money available to continue to pay for full scholarships as originally intended, the trustees continued to award part-scholarships each year. Today the Irving Scholarship is awarded to a Year 11 student in recognition of her contribution to school life. For more information on how the OLA supports our current students, please click here: https://ola.org.au/#howtheolasupportsitscommunity #schoolforlife #oldlauristoniansassociation #classof2020 #lauristongirlsschool

15.01.2022 Today the Alumnae and Archives team enjoyed a wonderful hour of conversation over Zoom with Nan Mantle (McCausland, 1943) who shared some wonderful stories about her 10 or so years as a Lauriston girl from the mid 1930s through to 1943. Nan fondly recalled many of her friends - Pat Gibson, Margaret Kendall, Felice Benjamin and Shirley Ann Francis to name a few, and told funny tales of getting detention for walking on the grass, playing hockey and basketball, being a Prefect,... and leading Andrews as House Captain. In particular, Nan remembers music duo Miss Webb and Miss Weir who used to call out "Sing through your eyebrows, girls", during choir practice. It was also Nan and her friend Pat Gibson who went on strike in protest of the compulsory stockings, resulting in socks being added to the uniform! Nan, who turns 95 next Wednesday, said that her cohort was filled with exceptional girls who have become successful artists and doctors and Nan herself after starting dentistry, has run a business, a sheep farm, and completed her PhD in Anthropology at the age of 78, in addition to raising a family. Thank you to Nan's son Christopher for helping to arrange this wonderful meeting. Next year we are celebrating 120 years of Lauriston and we are looking forward to hearing from many other Old Girls like Nan, who can help bring the history of the School to life! Please email [email protected] if you have a story to share.

08.01.2022 And it's a wrap! What a beautiful evening for the cohorts from Class of 2000 and 2001 last night, who joined together to celebrate their 20 Year Reunion! Small and intimate, there were plenty who were unable to come along and we said a "here's cheers" to those who were in our thoughts. And especially to a beloved member of Class of 2000, Lauren Cudlipp, who passed away in 2019. A special toast just for Lauren, who lives on in the hearts of her peers. 07.01.2022 RUOK? Day is a day dedicated to asking someone 'R U OK?' If you have a feeling that someone isn't behaving as they normally would, or perhaps seem out of sorts, more agitated or withdrawn, or they're just not themselves, trust your gut instincts and act on it. Starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you've noticed, you could help that family member, friend or schoolmate open up. That person will know you're someone who cares enough to ask.... Watch this 40 second clip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erHLP29tzPE&feature=youtu.be Also, why not take the time to write to someone who you are grateful for. This has the potential to not only impact them, but will impact you too.

07.01.2022 Last week we welcomed back Emily Atkins (1991) who provided our senior students with some valuable insight into creating and building a professional social presence on LinkedIn.
