10.02.2022 Super simple step-by-step instructions for our Cob Oven!

02.02.2022 The annual Caper white butterfly migration has started. The thornless caper plants at the Jane St community garden and Paradise St community garden are already ...covered in hundreds of butterfly eggs. I've included a photo of some eggs, a butterfly and the flower of the thornless caper tree. See more

24.01.2022 Our Zig Zag vine (Melodorum leichhardtii) has produced a bumper harvest of fruit in the community garden this year. The fruit is tasty and tangy. The plant is a host for the Pale Triangle, Eastern Dusk-flat and Four-barred Swordtail butterflies.

21.01.2022 Salt Bush is a delicious bush food, useful when it’s dried and chopped finely to season roast vegetables. There is a bucket of freshly cut leaves here at the garden for anyone interested

17.01.2022 There was a big party in the park last night, and unfortunately there is broken glass and rubbish all over the ground, and vomit on the pizza oven table. This is a much loved community space that is used by families, so it’s disappointing to see it disrespected in this way.

16.01.2022 Oh, honeybees. So important. And yet totally disappearing an a terrifying pace. We gotta save these bees if we like 1/3 of the food we eat! After all, thats, like ... a lot of food. Thanks for the image, Sunwarrior!

15.01.2022 SPIRAL: The End of an Era...and our new Space!

14.01.2022 Gardens Crew and Council have noticed the planting of new trees in positions which are contrary to careful planning of the space. People involved in the planting need to get in touch with Meg (on 0488 755 474) - they will need to be taken out and re-planted.

13.01.2022 Hi everyone, Just letting you know, work has started on test drilling the Common where Council is planning to place large shipping containers for mains-powered ...batteries that will charge Metro buses. A public meeting's being held on Thursday 7 October from 4.30pm at the former soccer club and former men's shed on T J Doyle Memorial Drive to discuss saving the parkland and trees. Worth noting - UQ has declined to have the containers placed on their 114ha site. Instead, it's proposed that we lose part of the Dutton Park Common. The batteries will be charged off mains power and a transmission line will run under the bridge to recharge the buses at the UQ bus station. For those who think it's worth giving up the park to get Metro - Metro buses won't be stopping at the Dutton Park bus station at the end of the bridge, so we'll be losing parkland and a city busway service (we currently have the excellent 66 bus but will be losing that service). Hope you can attend!

04.01.2022 GiAnt BuBBLes !!!! Yayyyy !!!!! Remember them from the last fundraiser???... Lets see how long we can keep them UP in the air !!!

03.01.2022 We drew a marvellous crowd on Saturday for the launching of the new cob oven! While Garden Guardians Meg and Briony worked the crowd, oven designer Steph Z performed a remarkable series of pizza-creating miracles with his team of foodies working the line. Mouths thus occupied, our ears were free to take in the grooves of local bands Mamachair and Jenny Pineapple, while trying to resist the charms of pizza-loving Lily the Labrador. How grateful we are to have an engaged and welcoming community to make moments like this possible. And the oven is now available for anyone and everyone! Thanks to all for an amazing day. Now, heres some photos.
