25.01.2022 Hi everybody, we have just heard the announcement made by the prime minister. We are working on understanding the full protocols around the announcement. We will send a email shortly. Can we kindly ask that you please hold off from calling or emailing with questions around this announcement, as I cannot answer with a specific answers just yet. Thanks everyone.

25.01.2022 Last week In our Kindergarten 2 room the children explored the concept of sinking and floating. At the start of the week they shared the story of who sank the boat. They then tested various objects in a bucket of water and discussed why they sunk or floated. They also tested a variety of materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, alfoil, and foam to see how they reacted to the water. After this the children used this knowledge to create their own boats. We then tested our boats in the water trough to see if they would sink or float. Nice work Kindy 2.

25.01.2022 On Tuesday 6 October 2020, our Kindergarten 3 children took part in a Zoom Story time with Miss Vanessa from the Dandiiri Library. Due to COVID restrictions we are unable to visit the Library but this did not stop us having a great time listening to the story "Home for Bilby" As a follow up today Miss Sharon sat with the children and reflected on the story Miss Vanessa had shared, we spoke about what the children recalled from the story and the order in which things happened.... Next we got to get creative, Miss Sharon printed off the animal pictures from the story and the children had lots of fun filling them in using patterns they had seen in the story. Kindergarten 3 children used straight lines, spiral effects, zig zig dots and wave shaped lines to create their own unique animal. During our time drawing we also reflected on how Indigenous People lived, caught their food, travelled and even told the time. It was wonderful to hear the children's interpretation and understanding of Indigenous Culture and seeing their surprised faces that they didn't have Woolworths, iPhones or clocks. Building relationships with our local community is very important to us here at Avenues Parkinson, we believe teaching the next generation important facts from the past teaches them to be respectful of the land we live on, the people and its traditions. 24.01.2022 Todays zoom lesson was on pattern making. Archie was one of the children who participated. At first we made patterns using coloured pencils and paper and encouraged the children to problem solve what colour they thought would come next, from the pattern Miss Tracy made. We then asked the children t make their own coloured patterns and we encouraged the children to make patterns with all kinds of objects around the house. Archie has made patterns with his morning tea and s...ome natural items from outside. Please check your emails daily to see what lesson we will do the next day. All you need to do is click the link to join. We love being able to continue helping the children learn and maintain our connection with you all. See more

18.01.2022 The miracle of life. We were very excited to see a black chicken merge from a white egg this afternoon. One child had a theory around this saying because it was in a white egg, that is why it was coming out as a black chicken.

18.01.2022 Last week as part of our my environment project the kindergarten 1 & 2 children explored facial features. Throughout the week we spoke about the shapes of our facial features and used positional language to discuss their position on our faces. For example our eye brows are ABOVE our eyes. During the week the children had the opportunity to draw their friends faces and paint self portraits. On Friday the children applied their knowledge of facial features by creating a face using natural and recycled materials. It was wonderful to see the childrens unique creations and how they utilised the various materials. Some of the children used their experience to further explore their identity as they used materials which were the same colour as their own features.

17.01.2022 Look what we received from Dental2you. I’ve named him denture Dan, the dinosaur. Thank you to all our families who took up the offer to have their child’s teeth checked and cleaned. We believe this is a valuable service to help the children learn about oral hygiene and helps them to feel comfortable at the dentist in an environment that they know. Denture Dan will be another valuable teaching strategy to teach the children about positive hygiene practices.

09.01.2022 In Kindergarten 1 we have been looking at diversity and other cultures. Last week we explored the Indian culture. On Friday, Miss Rehka joined us, to help us explore Indian culture further. She brought in some traditional Indian dress for us to try on and explained some of the techniques to make the dress. Miss Rehka explained how the Indian people make Naan bread then produced some fresh Naan bread she had made for us, to try. Everyone agreed Naan bread was delicious. Then Miss Rehka showed us a traditional Indian instrument called a Tumbi , that many of us learnt how to play. Finally Miss Rehka taught us some Indian dancing.

05.01.2022 In kindergarten 1 we have been looking at diversity and other cultures. Last week we explored the Chinese culture. After discussions about different Chinese foods, and what we have eaten, as a group we decided we would make fried rice. We explored the ingredients we needed, talked about safety around the fry pan, what we had cooked before and hygiene. After washing our hands the children took turns to add the ingredients and took turns stirring. We explored scientific concepts as we spoke about the changes as we added different ingredients and the children talked about the smell. We further explored the culture when some of us used chop sticks to eat the rice. Miss Carlie, Kelly,Cindy and Sharon all agreed we made a super yummy fried rice.
