20.01.2022 Attention Parents and anyone else who is thinking of having private tuition in Music, Piano, Theory, etc. Music Tuition is one of those unregulated industries which means that anyone can setup as a music teacher with no formal qualifications or experience what so ever. Over my 35 years of teaching Ive seen teachers with as little as a Grade 1 or 2 Exam promoting themselves as a Music Teacher and charging people TOP DOLLAR $ for music lessons. Some even have no knowledge... what so ever other than they had a few lessons 50 years ago and thought they would make a few dollars teaching children!! Seriously!! Ive also had my share of people calling me asking about tuition to then only find that they are obtaining information to setup a teaching business of their own, again with little to no musical experience or teaching abilities what so ever Make sure your teacher has formal qualifications and experience. Please also ensure that your teacher has the necessary checks done for working with children and a national police check. Oh and also make sure that your teacher can actually play the instrument they are charging you to teach. You might be very surprised when you ask them to play something for you Imagine taking your car to a mechanic who knows nothing about engines and cant drive???
