24.01.2022 You know what really really shits me. Is that using animals in testing, used for the benefit of mankind finding cures apparently seems to be for humanity a positive thing. Instead of positive only activists concentrating on banning tools for training purposes do you not find this more disturbing. How can we still condone animal testing for the purpose of helping humans. Mans best friend are being killed and subjected to animal farming and dont think some breeders here in WA dont come under animal farming licences cause I know of one that registered as animal farming for experimental purposes.

23.01.2022 Good puppies arent born, theyre made. Its a well-known fact that socializing helps prevent behaviour problems and increase the likelihood a dog will become... a great pet and lifelong companion. Early socialization can prevent behaviour problems, it seems obvious the risks associated with an unsocialized dog are much greater than the minimal risk of disease transmission. Start those Vaccinations and start your social calendar today. ALL OF THE BELOW SHOULD MAKE UP YOUR SOCIAL CALENDAR Interaction with other people and animals Exposure to unfamiliar sights and sounds Bathing, grooming and handling your puppy

19.01.2022 I know so many clients who ask what have they done wrong. Society for years know use the saying OWNERS ARE TO BLAME FOR UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR IN DOGS. And for years I have been saying how much of a bigger placement should be on the genetic makeup of that dog. Once the breeding of our canines was stringently mapped out by selectively pairing the best of the best. Those who passed the criteria of Sound of mind and body. Then in the 1940s they thought they had achieved that an...d the lines of breeds then actively spread. But over the years recessive genes are coming into play again and for the sake of our companion dogs existence in our world breeders everywhere should stop looking so much of perfecting their colours but genetically improving quality of life and be responsible and look at the whole picture. http://www.drjensdogblog.com/its-not-all-in-how-you-raise-/ See more

17.01.2022 Hope your Australia Day was as nice as ours here at Rosies Retreat Boarding Kennels.

15.01.2022 Opie just wants to see me.. Unlike the big boys who can just with a tilt of the head look up over the desk Opie has to use his thought process and come up with another solution. And he does.

13.01.2022 Imperfections or Genetics that we overlook. Why in this day and age do we consider dogs must be perfect. Is it our human perception. Is it the materialistic world we now live in. We live in an imperfect world people. If it isnt broken to start with then why do we try fix it. ... Dogs are genetically predispositioned a certain way. With many groups of dogs that breeds fit into. Such as Toy dogs - Group 1 These are small dogs who are primarily bred as companion animals. Terriers - Group 2 These breeds were to keep home and farm free from vermin. Gundogs - Group 3 These dogs were bred to work in the field. Hounds - Group 4 Hounds were bred for many forms of hunting Working Dogs - Group 5 These breeds work alongside farmers and others. Utility Dogs - Group 6 Bred to work as protectors and family guardians. Non-Sporting - Group 7 A diverse group of breeds who are more individual in their function, but do not fit into any of the other groups. So as you see we initially bred them for a purpose. To work for us in many different ways. A Kelpie crossed with a jack russell will enjoy the chase but its heightened arousal could trigger a responsive reaction once they reach the other dog or animal as the genetics to also eradicate the vermin come into play. These dogs are acting out their natural instinct and the more you learn and understand the genetics that come into play with your dog the more you will know how to control the triggers that influence your dogs behaviour. Its not your dog that is imperfect. Its not that your dog needs fixing. Its not a perfect world. I prefer to mention to my clients that "Its the art of perfecting your dog handling skills. The art of reading your dogs body language in this imperfect world." I do not advocate nor do I approve of Kill Shelters and use the Lima Method of evaluating dogs needs.

07.01.2022 As Rosies Retreat is one of only a few kennels that cater for dogs that are either, anxious, elderly, escape artists, human aggresive, dog aggresive, dogs requiring medication, elderly, etc our numbers of special needs boarding dogs that have become regular guests is at a maximum and we will not be taking on any more new dogs that get highly stressed or anxious in kennel situations. Are hyper aroused, human aggressors, dog aggressive or require extra care, support, supervision during our peak holiday periods. .. We will be needing a general assesment based on history, feedback, meet and greet, of all new dogs that wish to stay with us during peak holiday periods to meet a certain standard of, minmal stress and general social behaviour.

03.01.2022 Rosies Retreat - February 2018

03.01.2022 If you have the time then watch this document to the end. It also includes two people who have a lot of following in the dog training industry who claim to be, and use force free, positive only methods. It will open your eyes hopefully to what I and other balanced trainers already know about this cult like fad. Balanced training is not about intimidation and fear for I know not 1 single dog that fears me they all thrive for more affection they all want to please me , not ou...t of fear but to earn acceptance and approval . Yes not a treat but my positive affirmations that are also part of the 4 quadrants of dog training. So many new dog owners and vets who refer to force free positive only dog trainers are being misled, watch this all the way through and see for yourself then try telling me about Barbaric, Neanderthal, Outdated, and whats the other word that has been said about me. Oh Archaic. Thats the word. Now you tell me who is who. See more

01.01.2022 As you all knew we were closing our doors due to the health of my parents. My father passed away 3 months ago and mum is still fighting against the horrible pancreatic cancer that dared to take her on. If it wants a fight then a fight we will give it. So as of the 14th January our doors here at Rosies Retreat will be closed. I will keep the phone number so that I can help guide you all to kennels I think would best suit your dogs. Thank you all for your Loyalty, Friendships and Trust. May you all have a lovely Xmas and new year. In memory and honour of my dad. He taught me everything about the respect of animals in our care and around us. Cause of him I had the gift of loving not only my dogs but yours as well. This picture is of my dad the day he visited Rosies Retreat Boarding Kennels and made friends with Lola.
