19.01.2022 If you car has forced induction such as a turbocharger or supercharger, there’s a fair chance at some point you will experience a boost leak. A boost leak is where the air compressed by either the supercharger or turbo escapes before it can enter the engine. This can lead to poor performance, poor fuel economy, increased emissions and often emits unwanted noise.... Sometimes boost leaks are easy to find (intercooler damage pictured), most of the time they’re not. We have up to date testing equipment to help locate and identify boost leaks on both petrol & Diesel engines. Call us today if you think you’re experiencing boost related issues.

17.01.2022 Carbon buildup is becoming an issue with emission controlled engines, both petrol and diesel. Excessive carbon buildup can lead to poor engine performance, higher fuel usage and in some cases can cause the engine to run rough, or late model petrol direct injection engines, not at all! At Peter Atkin Mechanical we have the correct late model equipment to address these issues. At the time of writing Peter Atkin Mechanical is the only workshop on the coast equipped with the amazing Wynn’s MultiServe machine, which is very efficient in preventing carbon buildup through regular intake manifold Maintenance cleans. In extreme case where carbon buildup is clogging the inlet, the manifolds may require removal for manual cleaning, we can help with this too.

12.01.2022 Chances are if you have a late model diesel vehicle it will be fitted with an emissions device called a diesel particulate filter or DPF. There are many factors which can cause a DPF to have issues, the most common is excessive soot loading which restricts the exhaust system and often places the vehicle in reduced power mode There are many external factors which can lead to this excess soot loading and it is important to rectify these issues prior to cleaning the filter.... At Peter Atkin Mechanical we can diagnose & correct faults causing DPF issues and then perform in depth & thorough cleaning of the DPF with our state of the art equipment and 3 stage system. we are the only ones on the coast with this service available at present. 08.01.2022 Cabin/Pollen filters! A often overlooked service item. We are often asked how necessary it is to replace it. I’ll let you decide looking at these photos of some of the worst ones we’ve seen. All air, wether it be from outside/fresh mode, or inside/recirculate mode, passes through the cabin/pollen filter before passing through your vents. Imagine what nasties lie within these filters!

Not only are theses sensors used to make the vehicle run, but also to get the best performance an efficiency from your vehicle. There are a number of sensors that can be checked through routine service and can be cleaned to remove dirt an carbon to improve the power & economy using the correct cleaning agents safe for the sensor.

05.01.2022 Timing belts are a very important maintenance item on many vehicles Replacement intervals vary from as little as every 60,000km all the way to 150,000km depending on make & model, but did you know timing belts can also perish with time even if you haven’t covered the Kilometers? This Toyota Yaris came in for its routine minor service, there’s not a great deal of mileage on this car yet through our safety check, we found one of the rear wheel bearings well & truely due for replacement. We were able to provide an estimate, source parts & carry out the repair same day to ensure the safety of the occupants & other road users.
