18.01.2022 On this day in 1902 women won the right to vote in federal elections with the passing of the Commonwealth Franchise Act. Before 1901 only two colonies had gr...anted women the right to vote: South Australia in 1894 and Western Australia in 1899. When Australia federated, the Constitution restricted voting rights in federal elections to women who held those same rights at a state level. Although the legislation was ground-breaking, it is worth noting that it excluded not only non-European migrants but also Indigenous Australians of either sex, who did not receive the vote at the federal level until 1962. The wagga rug however, came into being in the late 19th century. This was a time of pastoral expansion...Continue reading

14.01.2022 While I am always happy for our monthly meeting I have never been this happy to attend it before! The museum is still here! We can't even put into words how thankful we are to the people who helped keep our museum and our town safe! There are so many of them and on so many levels from the people who made the food to keep everyone going to the ones out on the front line and a million places in between. If you want to show your support to our museum, our town and our region which has been so devastated by these fires please come and visit. Visit our museum, visit out coffee shops, restaurants, gift stores, art gallery, hardware store, pubs, clubs, wineries, hotels etc. Come and see that although we have been hit and hit hard we are still here and will come back an even better place (which was pretty special to start with)!
