17.01.2022 Missing Melbourne! Repost @library_vic Ill meet you under the clocks... ... This Melbourne icon, Flinders Street Station, was designed by J.W. Fowcett and G.P.G. Ashworth and finally completed in 1910 and electric trains began arriving and departing from the station in 1919. Flinders Street is Melbournes busiest station, and would normally be used by over 100,000 people every day. The clocks across the arch were part of the original design and show the times of departing trains. Up until the 1970s, they were changed manually, by someone with a very long stick! The clocks have become a popular meeting place for many victorians and our very own Melbourne tradition. We look forward to meeting under the clocks again soon, Melbourne.
