18.01.2022 We're here for the Police Family. And do you know who else we're here for? You. Yes, you. I'm talking to you up the back there, the one who hasn't got their Christmas presents sorted yet. Because our NSW Police Legacy gift cards are now electronic, and can be bought & sent right up until midday Christmas Eve! You win, we win, the Police Family wins. (Also winning? Aunty Ethel, Grandpa Jim, Cousin Eugene, when they get this gorgeous card and realise their Christmas gift has gone towards making people's lives better). This Christmas, give the gift of care. All without leaving your loungeroom. https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au/store

14.01.2022 We are delighted this afternoon to launch the Inverell Paver Project! This is the third time a NSW Police Station has chosen to support us by creating a NSW Police Legacy walkway as part of their station upgrade, and we are so grateful for the support. For the first stage of the Project, Chief Inspector Rowan O'Brien has invited former/serving NSW Police from the New England district to write their names in history. All proceeds from paver sales go directly to supporting the Police Family, and we are honoured to be the recipients. 13.01.2022 Here’s the second instalment from our Roving Reporter Ainsley Baker, who’s been working hard to bring you all the scoop! Last night after dinner we all met together and introduced ourselves to the new legatees and supervisors. We learnt there are nine new legatees from Terrigal, Boambee Coffs Harbour, Bowral, and Engadine, who joined us for their first camp this year. We woke a little fresher than the morning before, as we were getting into out ‘camp routine’, and once again... split off into our same two groups. It was my group’s turn to do the bushwalk. We put on our walking shoes, filled our drink bottles, and put on our hats all camp necessities. Our group met up with Ricky, one of our camp guides, who led us up a rocky trail where we learnt about native plants such as the Flannel Flower, Xanthorrhoea Grass Trees, and the Widowmaker Gum Tree. We all rolled through a small gap in a sandstone cave, climbed through an opening in another cave, visited an old Aboriginal meeting cave, and an old abandoned nurses’ quarters from the time the island was used as a prison and mental asylum. Eventually we clawed our way to the top of a giant rock that we learnt was the highest point on Milson Island. Ricky told us all we were in an area that was similar to amphitheatres in Ancient Rome, and that if we yelled into the distance we could hear ourselves echo at least three times. A few of us jumped at the opportunity Maya Knowles, Holly Marks-Gray, Emily Newman, Patrick Richardson, and Milah Irby all gave us some amazing cooees. After our bushwalk, we met up again with the other half of the legatees, and were put into nine separate groups to embark on a photo scavenger hunt. We had to act out a superhero pose, or wear our clothes backwards, propose to another team’s team member, take selfies, and more. When our time was up our team leaders were required to send in our photos to one of the supervisors so they could be marked by Elli Steel, who sadly could not participate due to her injured ankle. We will find out the winning team tonight!

11.01.2022 Welcome to 2021, everybody. We wish this could be an unconditional Happy New Year message, but unfortunately we have sad news. On Saturday 2 January Snr Cst Kelly Foster died in a canyoning incident at Mount Wilson, while trying to assist a fellow canyoneer. We think Acting Commissioner Mal Lanyon put it best: "To hear reports that Kelly was trying to help another woman when she died demonstrates her commitment to the community she served and the ability to put the needs of o...thers before her own." https://www.smh.com.au//police-officer-killed-after-being- And sadly just before Christmas another NSW Police Officer was struck by tragedy. Senior Constable Thomas Spowart was involved in a motor vehicle accident on the way to work, suffering major injuries. He remains in an induced coma in St George Hospital. We have set up an appeal page for him and his fiancée and young daughter here: https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au//thomas-spowart-appe 2021 remains a new year, full of new hope, but these incidents remind us of the danger that our brave police officers face day in and day out. It is our privilege to help the Police Family through these dark times.

11.01.2022 Breaking with our own tradition, we have another birthday post! This time, however, it's Ludwig Van Beethoven, who would have been 250 today. Celebrating this, we are thrilled to present the NSW Police Band Wind Quartet, with our very own Police Legatee Callum Stewart, performing an excerpt from Beethoven’s Piano Quintet Op. 16 (1796). Members of the Quartet: Edward Wang Oboe... Steven Stojcevski Clarinet Adrian Hallam Horn Peta Goh Bassoon Click through to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg406SZE35U

10.01.2022 There's a lot we could say about 2020, but mostly we're going to let the pictures of our wonderful Police Family speak for themselves. You continue to amaze and inspire us. May you all have a safe, loving, and peaceful Christmas and New Year. PLEASE NOTE: the office will be closed from Wednesday 23 Dec until 4 Jan 2021, when there will be limited staff back on duty. During this time we will not be responding to social media messages etc. We look forward to interacting with you all again next year!

10.01.2022 Our pair of superstars just hit the halfway mark! 150kms down, 150 to go! You can spur them on with a donation here: https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au//300ks-in-a-day-for- #RemembranceBikeRide

09.01.2022 We think our Police Legatees are a 10, but just for today we’ll go with 9 ! Some of our families had a fabulous day yesterday on The Picnic Train, travelling to Kiama in the first carriage, and being treated to fish and chips by the sea. A huge thank you to everyone involved in supporting us to make it a wonderful day, especially Sam Roach, Matt Stapleton and Inspector Stephen Blair. (Our Chair Det Supt Gary Merryweather was there to send them off, along with Inspectors Steven Blair and Ben McFarlane, and one very naughty Elf )

09.01.2022 It’s Adventure Camp week, and today we are delighted to bring you a story direct from Police Legatee Ainsley Baker, in her official Roving Reporter capacity. Take it away Ainsley! It was 7am on Monday 18 January when I woke. My sisters, Mackenzie, Jordan, and I headed to the airport to board the plane with a few other of our legatee friends. For some of us, we hadn’t seen each other in almost over a year, so we were very happy and excited. Nearing 1pm, about 20 of us hopped ...on a bus and drove up to the Hawksbury River, where we were greeted lovingly by 27 more legatees. We loaded the boat with our bags and ourselves, and made the 15-minute boat ride to our destination: Milson Island. Once we had settled into our cabins with our friends, we were free to jump around in the pool, play sport in the gym, or just lounge in our rooms and catch up more with our fellow legatees. After dinner, one of our camp guides, Jimmy, led us on a small tour of the island. We managed to trek down a tight path where we were informed that the island we were on was once used as a meeting ground for the local aboriginal people, to discuss law, and initiate young boys into their tribes. The next morning, we all were woken at 8 for breakfast, many of us still tired as we may have been up talking all night. Later in the morning we all assembled together and were assigned a number each, and split into two groups. My group first ventured to the archery range where we were split into three sub-groups. We had some friendly competitions battling to score the most points, and another game where we would all try to ‘make a pizza’ by hitting certain colours in order. After about an hour my group and I ventured to the pool where we were given some rope, wooden planks, bread crates, and large plastic milk jugs to build a raft that could safely take us across the dangerous Hawksbury River, or in our case the width of the pool. Elliot Sasagi and Evan Garraway’s raft was probably the most buoyant; not far behind them was Patrick Richardson and Jarvis Williams, whose raft just about managed to keep them from going under. We then all headed off to lunch, and spent the rest of the day having free time together.

08.01.2022 And now, for those of you waiting for the final instalment, here’s Ainsley Baker’s wrap of the last few days of Adventure Camp. It’s been an absolute pleasure publishing the words of this budding young reporter! On our third last day, my group made our way to ‘Twin Beaches’ just off the Hawkesbury River, and a 15 minute boat ride from the island. At the beach, my group and I were allowed free time to either swim, relax in the sun, play with the football, or do some fishing ...away from the swimmers. After an hour and a half we made our way back to Milson Island. It was our first really hot day since being in camp, so many of us trekked to the pool where we relaxed or played water football. After dinner we played the Light as a Feather game. Cameron Gray, Mackenzie Baker, Jack Goodwin, and Carl Vandergraaf picked up Joel, one of our biggest supervisors, with just four fingers each. The next day we split into four groups. One group went to the ward for fishing, another went BMX biking on trails around the island, another made damper, and the final group went kayaking to the shipwreck of HMAS Parramatta the Original. My group who kayaked to the shipwreck learnt stories about the boat and its history from camp guide Jimmy. After lunch, my camp mates and I had a couple of friendly competitions. Tara Marsh won the handstand competition, and Tom Chell won the planking in a competition that lasted eight minutes between him and Tara Marsh. After the competitions, we all quieted down and welcomed the Dad of two of our fellow legatees, who presented his wife’s leadership award, Tara’s Gift, to myself. [’ : !] After dinner we travelled across part of the island to a fire pit. We talked, cooked damper on sticks, took photos, and all said our goodbyes to each other, as the next morning we would be splitting up early. My fellow legatee Keely Gray and myself both shed tears and said goodbyes and thank yous to our supervisors, as it was our last camp, and joined in with a big group hug with the rest of our legacy family. At 5am on Saturday 23 January, myself and 19 other legatees awoke and boarded a boat that took us back to Kangaroo Point, and jumped in a bus that took us to the airport. Then at 8.30am my sisters, myself and some other legatees said goodbye to all our friends at the airport and made our way off to board the plane that would take us home.

03.01.2022 If every picture tells a story, then this one says that at NSW Police Legacy we've been loving a sausage sizzle for at least 25 years. You know who else loves a sausage sizzle? Bunnings Warehouse Australia. And you know who loves Bunnings? We do! Because they have given us an extraordinarily generous donation of $75,000 for our Police Family! That is a lot of sausage sandwiches. That is a huge amount of love. Thank you

02.01.2022 Following on from a very successful round one, we are delighted to announce that the second round of the Inverell Paver Project is now open! Your paver will display your name and registered number - showing your proud support of the Police Family. All proceeds from the walk will support NSW Police Legacy.
