25.01.2022 Applying some propone silicone antifouling for propellers and running gear. Easy to do after a good clean.

25.01.2022 Antifouling a fibreglass boat, 4 coats of 2 Pak marine primer ( use a marine epoxy filler after first coat of 2 Pak primer) then lay under the under water primer then 3 coats of the right antifouling eg for this boat something that can handle over 25 knots like hempel Globic NCT or Hempel Millie dynamic. Spraying is great as wet on wet. Don't thin tie coat and antifoul. Then on the back l use propone.

18.01.2022 Nothing like that first coat of Hempel Globic NCT on top of the underwater primer after a fresh lay up of Hempel light primer a great underwater primer sealer for new or after a boat has blisters from not being painted correctly in the past.

15.01.2022 You have to love Hempel Profiller, so light weight, yet strong and can fill 4 inch holes. But most of just wet down after about 1/2 hr of cure times and smooth off. Saves so much sanding time and gets to laying up the primer and top coats much sooner. It was designed for fast big light weight repairs on the racing yachts, it can then be screwed, nailed or machined.

04.01.2022 Hi one of the most important but over looked for price part of a paint make up is its solid content. Paints with higher solids contents will in general deliver much better value in performance and life. Volume solid is the volume of paint after it has dried. Paint contains solvent, resin, pigments and additives. After applying the paint, the solid portion will be left on the substrate. Volume solid is the term which indicates the proportion of the solid contacting the paint o...n a volume basis. For example, if paint is applied in a wet film at a 100 m thickness, and the volume solid of paint is 50%, then the dry film thickness will be 50 m as 50% of the wet paint has evaporated. Suppose the volume solid is 100%, and the wet film thickness is also 100 m. Then after complete drying of the paint, the DFT will be 100 m because no solvent will be evaporated. This is an important concept when using paint industrially to calculate the cost of painting. It can be said that it is the real volume of paint. so if house paint, industry or marine its important as it what you pay for. The lower the solid contact of paint the lower the price maybe, but you pay for it in reduced life, more coats required, etc.

03.01.2022 Do a new floor in marine poly. No rot, can be welded and we have the paint to do the job so nobody knows. And better than that sh.t BS marine ply if you can afford the real deal like Australian marine ply. Just allow gap for expansion eg bigger holes and around the edge. But no big deal. Ribs are less of a worry due to the curves.
