22.01.2022 That's it folks 4th Birthday celebrations done and dusted!! Thank you to everyone who went out, completed 5km and posted their selfie. It was great to see your smiling faces again.... Thank you to Port of Call Cafe for generously providing the cupcakes at cost price and discounting the coffee...This is why they are our cafe of choice - Great people. There is still cupcakes available so if you didn't get a chance to get yours today - Show your voucher tomorrow and you can still collect it. Even though the celebrations are over if you didn't get out to do your 5km today and as we still have cupcakes over - You can do it tomorrow...Better you eat the cupcakes than we do!!. Finally Although the day was a success it isn't without a tinge of sadness.. This birthday would not have happened if it wasn't for the foresight and determination of the "simple truckie" (his words) in this photo at parkrun No.1. I know many of you participated today to honour him. He would be so pleased and proud of you all. Hopefully it won't be too long until we are all together again for real!!

21.01.2022 Spring is here . For those that like to get creative -there is a great virtual competition going at the moment run by southwestsport. It starts on the 19th September until 4th October 2020. We would love to see what drawings our park runners can come up with. More information is provided in the link below . Feel free to post in the comments your drawings to share with our Portland parkrun community. https://southwestsport.com.au/southwestmoves/

21.01.2022 Thanks council for the works to the parkrun track- the path leading to the turn around point has been cleaned up, levelled and resurfaced - feels good underfoot! Now we just need to get back there! If parkrun was starting in two weeks would you be there?

16.01.2022 Sometimes we need something to make us get out there and exercise- here’s a reason!! How many km do you think portland parkrun can rack up over these two days? We are guessing 500km? Let’s see what we can rack up for our parkrun family! Who’s in? Follow the link below to register

16.01.2022 THANK YOU!!! Thank you a billion times over Chris King and Vicki Taylor for your years of being super duper Parkrun directors. Both Chris and Vicki have resigned as parkrun directors now but they have assured me they will be still a regular Saturday morning face. Which is just as well or they would be terribly missed! ... We are now needing to gain a couple of new run directors - if you have been coming for a while to parkrun and would like to step up to the role, now is the perfect time. You don’t need any particular skills - it’s easy to learn and there is always someone there to assist you. If there’s a part that scares you (like result processing) that’s ok- someone can do that part for you. If your tempted contact the event directors Kaysie Antony or Blancet Maree Cox and have a chat, or ask any of the current run directors what is involved. You will be welcomed with open arms! Thanks once again to our retiring legends - always a welcoming face at parkrun and both giving so much of your time - you are both awesome !!

11.01.2022 Hey parkrunners!! Remember how we used to love our after parkrun breakfasts? Since the port of call is now able to have diners again let’s do it!! ... Having breakfast on a Saturday morning Again would be a great way of supporting the cafe that has always been so good to us. We will need to let them know by Friday lunch time each week so they can have sufficient staff on. put your name in the comments if you want to catch up this Saturday 26th September 9am Port of call cafe.

10.01.2022 Hi Parkrunners, due to the 7 day lock down we will not be going ahead this week. We will keep you all informed as to when we will return. Remember to still get out and get your exercise.

09.01.2022 Looks like New Zealand may not be too far away from restarting.

09.01.2022 dont forget to catch up with your parkrun friends at breakfast every Saturday Port of Call 9am

08.01.2022 Good morning trend setters, how are we enjoying our Saturday mornings without parkrun? This is Chris King reporting, I was supposed to be your run director for today's 4th anniversary but sadly I wont get to see all those snazzy costumes and smiley faces down at the Lagoon this year. But don't let that stop you getting out and having a run/walk and most of all don't forget to post a selfie to this page to get your free cake voucher. I'd also like to add that after 4 years I'v...e decided I'm going to take a break from the run director role and let somebody else have a crack. Don't worry, I'm not giving parkrun away, I'll still be there, volunteering and encouraging as much as ever. To finish off I would just like to say a big thank you to my fellow RD's and all those that have been my sidekicks when I've been the RD. Looking forward to seeing you all again when this is all over, hopefully more sooner than later. Keep those photo's coming. Happy and safe running. Chris King signing off. See more
