24.01.2022 From where you (and I) would rather be.. . . In exactly 3 weeks today I would have been leaving for a sun drenched break in Hawaii .. Seeing as though vacation plans got scrapped I decided to take a ‘stay-cation’ next week.. taking some time out to reset and nourish my mind and soul. .... . How have you been looking after your wellbeing and mental health over the past four or so months? I’d love to know below .. . . 18.01.2022 Got 2 minutes? Then you’ve got time for 2 minutes of mobility. . . #PowerhouseBodyMondayMove .... . This one is an absolute staple in every one of my client warm ups as well as my own. It is a regressed or modified version of the ‘Spider-Man lunge’ with rotations, and ‘World’s Greatest Stretch’. These will feature on another occasion . . I find this version is a nice entry level hip & groin stretch which targets the hamstrings, hip flexors and adductors/inner thigh, as well as the Thoracic Spine. . . TIP: Spend some time sinking the hips into the lunge with some deep breaths before moving into the slow rotations. One of my favourites . . 1 Minute per side will leave you feeling 10 years younger! Promise . . #Monday #Mobility #PowerhouseBodyOnline and I agree with both of those names, though for simplicity and familiarity I just call it Lunge & Rotation Stretch #PowerhouseMondayMove

15.01.2022 Change ahead . . . Name change in 3,2.... ... I have resisted this for quite some time, but now feels like the right time to launch my new business name: . . POWERHOUSE BODY . . Thoughts?! . . I believe this name embodies and encapsulates everything that I am about, live and breathe in my own life and in what I offer and strive to help my clients achieve. . . I pay homage to my Pilates background with this name as anyone who has practiced Pilates methods will know that the core is often referred to as the body’s ‘powerhouse’, and continue to offer and incorporate Pilates training, however no longer instruct group classes. I’m excited to be focusing solely on my own business for the first time. Onward and upward . . So long Pilatefit. It’s been great, but it’s time to move on. . . CJ, Powerhouse Body

08.01.2022 . . PAUSE . .... I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how important it is to look after ourselves right now.. I’ve really noticed recently how anxious people are feeling, including myself, people constantly commenting how busy they are, worried, feeling stretched, exhausted etc . . My main outlet is my training, but apart from that I find that what really helps me feel less stressed, more grounded and feeling like ‘I got this’ is taking a little pause.. . . Now more than ever, particularly because it’s unlikely any of us are taking a decent holiday any time soon, I think taking small pauses are essential for our wellbeing and mental health, and will even impact the people close to us..and that could be even more important . . So this is why, for the next 21 days starting tomorrow, I’ll be doing a little challenge. . . Here’s what I’m going to do; I’m going to take a 5 minute pause in my day...That’s it! Call it what you will, practicing being present, a mini meditation, a moment of stillness; it’s all of those.. and I think it’s something we could all really do with right now to bulletproof our mind and soul. WHO IS WILLING TO JOIN ME on this bulletproof challenge for our minds and mental health . . It’d be cool to have a few more people to do it with me .. as that will help with my own accountability and I’m also going to document this on my socials because I’d like to set an example of how consistency can help you achieve great things. . . So 5 minutes. Not a big deal I know, but at the same time still a true challenge for myself and probably many of us to commit to for 21 days...I’m starting tomorrow. 06.01.2022 . . I got asked the other day why do I love what I do.. My response? .... . I love helping others discover their true movement and strength potential.. I get so much satisfaction from seeing my clients genuinely enjoy their training and achieve things they never thought would be possible . . Take Dee for example. Dee began training with me 2 years and 9 months ago. Dee’s training history was mostly running and had been experiencing sore knees. We started strength training and focusing on developing better ankle, hip and spinal mobility, hamstring and core strength and along the way Dee has developed a big love for Deadlifting! . . We’ve had some obstacles! We trained through a broken hand and the rehab process, and continued through the gym Covid shutdown period training in a park. . . Just before the shutdown Dee hit a massive 110kg Deadlift. Since training indoors again we have been building the volume back up and I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2020 brings! . . 03.01.2022 . EXERCISE OF THE WEEK . . The Scapula Pullup... . . A Pullup specific regression to develop shoulder and scapular controlled mobility, lumbo-pelvic stability, and grip strength. . . Great for warming up pull-ups and the first step to performing a pull-up! . . HOW Dead hang from the bar, shoulders relaxed, overhand grip, ideally holding slight hollow body position. . . NEXT Without bending your arms or swinging (no momentum), depress your shoulder blades (move your shoulder blades down your back ribs) and retract (towards the spine) and think about moving your ears up between your biceps. . . Modification: Use a lower bar where feet touch the ground or place a box or bench under the bar. Take some of your weight through your legs. . . Want to achieve your first Pullup?? . . 02.01.2022 . Hope everyone is taking time this long weekend to do the things you wouldn’t normally have the chance to. For me that means simple things like a morning spent at the beach with family and then taking time to sit and enjoy a delicious lunch; my favourite meal from @ikuwholefood - a vegan spinach and eggplant lasagne with quinoa salad for extra protein. 01.01.2022 Thank you Ravina for your wonderful words. I have been training Ravina 1:1 and in small group sessions VIRTUALLY (online via Zoom) now since May 2020. With my guidance and Ravina’s dedication and commitment, she has made incredible gains and improvements in her strength, mobility and confidence.... It’s great to work with you Ravina!
