16.01.2022 PETER NAGLE POWER SEEKERS: The initial PRNwas the nick name, first used by George Bryant in Durham’s early years in the House as a put down. Durham hated that arrogance of Bryant to use his initials as a put down; but it was better than Bryant saying ‘here comes the papists as would say of Richard Harris’. PRN simply meant in medical parlance whenever necessary If a hospital patient needed medication only when it was necessary, the medical chart would read medicine PR...N. When Bryant was Deputy Leader of the Labor Opposition, he would call on Durham, when necessary, to get him out of trouble or to deliver the rights’ votes in the Shadow Cabinet and or at the party’s Caucus meetings. Habits die hard is correct and within the Durham group PRN had become a badge of enduring audacity against Bryant and a symbol against Bryant’s clan of pricktorian left politicians and their South Australian supporters. But one lesson they all knew was albeit, to use PRN, when describing Durham to others was alright; but never, never say it to Durham’s face, even though it was used within his group to Honour him.
