25.01.2022 It's another beautiful day to bowl down here at Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club This weeks opening hours at are as follow: Wednesday = 4pm - 8pm... Thursday = 4pm - 8pm Friday = 4pm until Late Saturday = 12pm until 7pm Sunday = 12pm until 6pm We hope to see you again soon <3

25.01.2022 Pretty Boy Lankshear had The Mouth Soldatich on the ropes in the early rounds and his father couldn't help start sledging from the bank. " Why were you drinking beer before a final you idiot " " Dad, there's no harm in a few cans to loosen up." " Your brain needs tightening up not loosening up." When our Bad Boy started blaming the heavy green, overnight rain and the bureau of meteorology for not reaching the head it looked like Pretty Boy was going to have his measure. But ...then he dropped 8 shots in 3 ends and The Mouth took the initiative and never looked like losing the lead. He's waited 20 years, but he can finally boast that he's won a Club Championship. We'll leave the last 'harsh' word to his father Giulio, " I came to this country with just one suitcase, I raised a family and made something of myself. But it's taken you 45 years to finally achieve something " Giulio's a hard task master, but our members are delighted that P Soldatich will finally join Princes Park 'illuminati' on the club's Honour Board ! 24.01.2022 ' These Extraordinary Times Require EXTRAORDINARY Leadership and Bunkering Down ' " Callum's ( our current president ) a nice guy and all, don't get me wrong. Neville Chamberlain was probably a nice guy....but Britain needed an Iron Fist in her hour of need to challenge The Teutonic Tyrant. We need a Churchill like leader to face the adversity of 'These Challenging Times'. I, Paul Soldatich am nominating to take over as our club's President and am calling for a Special Gener...al Meeting ( via Skype ). My 5 Year Plan- once I steer our club through her Hour of Need is to turn PPC into a Division One club and I'll move heaven and earth and crush 'unnecessary obstacles' to see it happen. And I'm not afraid to ruffle feathers and step on toes getting there let me assure our members. Reducing our Environmental Footprint and promoting DIVERSITY and putting on Meatless BBQs is all well and good Mr President. But my priority will be turning our members into Divi 1 bowlers....not bloody vegetarians. Dad, do you reckon Blair will agree to be my deputy ? Someone's going to have to do all that bloody paperwork." See more

23.01.2022 Our beautiful Jacaranda

23.01.2022 We'll be opening our beautiful greens from 12.00 to 3.00 this weekend with certain restrictions as per the email sent out to members. Remember our greens are only open to Full Members....not social members. Just another incentive to get Fair Dinkum about bowls and committing to playing pennant !

23.01.2022 Both sides are playing at Home on Saturday. And it's an EARLY start 11.00 AM . Please note due to Covid restrictions we won't be able to provide our usual Lunch Spread. However we will be providing light refreshments. We recommend BYO lunch for those with a 'healthy appetite'. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.....early !

22.01.2022 "Fake News" " According to the Bowls Victoria website you were one of the club's worst performing skips last season Paul. " " Rubbish"...I'm hands down the best skip this club has had in the last ten years." " You might believe that Paul, but the statistics for last season paint an entirely different picture." " So, who had better results than me ? "... " Well, according to the data on the BV website I did ." " YOU...you were my lead for 10 years...I taught you everything you know about skipping. You're still a bloody rookie as far as skips go." Our Bad Boy's detractors are probably looking forward to the compulsory wearing of Face Masks this upcoming season...hoping it'll curtail some of his outrageous outbursts. " I've carried this side for years." But in fairness to our Bad Boy, he isn't a sore loser. He'll invariably stay behind after losing a game and have a drink with the opposition skip....and most probably blame his rink or his father's inability to play his forehand for the loss. But he'll eventually pack up his bowls and go home 'graciously' ! See more

18.01.2022 Another Friday night special! Have a peek below

17.01.2022 Fancy Hanks, a DJ playing 'ambient grooves' and cute dogs... and there was a bit of bowling going on as well last night. And we picked up a couple of new members. "This place is awesome. " Our members couldn't agree more. The summer's looking good !

16.01.2022 From 12pm today!!!

16.01.2022 Tonight's the night we welcome Bowl-B-Que Fridays to the Bowls club! Come check it out

16.01.2022 Our seconds had a solid win against Albert Park, and our firsts nearly pulled off an 'inexplicable' win after trailing all day against Brunswick, 78 - 77. One shot away from both sides getting up. Another great day at Princes Park !

15.01.2022 When the weather's this good, how could you say no? See you at Bowl-B-Que Fridays

15.01.2022 We’re super excited for tonight! We’ll have a cold one here waiting for you

14.01.2022 Drag Queens and Cowboys on the Green SBS will be showing a documentary about a bowls club in Ipswich doing it tough and taking 'drastic measures' to stay afloat this Tuesday at 8.30. Followers of our club's social media are familiar with our Unorthodox Ways and Initiatives. As a club we're no strangers to going against the grain and beating to a different drum. I recently overhead an opposition player say to his teammates , " this club ( Prince Park ) has one of Melbourne's ...best greens....it's a pity to waste it on these Fruitcakes." However the 'Fruitcakes' appreciate the facilities provided by the income raised by 'unconventional ' means. We couldn't pay for our green keeper and facilities with raffle ticket sales. Or as our club's Bad Boy is fond of reminding everyone, " when I joined this club you had stiffs running around putting doilies under tea cups." Mind you Paul Soldatich is renown for pushing 'acceptable' boundaries on a green, and some of his more irrational outbursts have raised eyebrows, " I want to skip a rink of PPC Thai Lady Boys to a pennant premiership." That was a bridge too far for a few of our more conservative members. Our president regularly pulls him aside to curtail his 'cowboy' exuberance. A neighbouring club Coburg Moreland recently folded, in part due to being unable to adapt to changing demographics, and a few of their members have joined us. It would be fair to say these senior gents were initially taken aback by some of our more progressive initiatives. But it's plain to see that they're enjoying bowling at PPC. I asked their last president a loaded question on Saturday after pennant. " Frank, what's the most important decision you've made in recent years ? " He gave me a cheeky look and replied...."Joining this bowls club. " See more

13.01.2022 Bowl-B-Que Fridays is back this Friday from 5pm. Come check it out and enjoy what the night has to offer We hope to see you here.

13.01.2022 The Weekends Social Wrap Up from Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club - see the highlights that were! This weeks episode featuring a runaway dog, superwoman and many, many bowls. Bowl-B-Que Fridays went off with a bang, packed out until late in the night while Saturday kept the ball rolling with sun on our faces and drinks in our hands. Cue in runaway dog and Superwoman, our Saturday highlight stars. Were you here?? Like, comment or tag your friends if you were! Photos taken by our new photographer Alex

12.01.2022 Not long now.....

12.01.2022 What a way to start the season ! Both sides had 'handsome' wins indeed. The Firsts had a resounding win at Mooney Valley. And the Seconds had a win at Hawthorn . Now tomorrow's AGM promises 'spirited' discourse planning the club's future. ... And let's not forget The Rumble in the Jungle Singles Final featuring The Mouth Soldatich vs Pretty Boy Lankshear. See more

11.01.2022 Let's hope we can reschedule our Carlton Classic for a date later in the year. Our annual tournament attracts some of Melbourne's most colourful bowlers. Nino from Deer Park has an On Green Banter that subdues our Bad Boy's antics....no mean feat that !

11.01.2022 We did PPC proud this season. Aberfeldie were just a little too 'polished' today, so we'll have to console ourselves with being Runners Up. Peter Green had a stellar season. Our Professor has been a loyal Princes Park servant for over a decade now. PPC's dependable bedrock.....you're absolute Gold Peter !

10.01.2022 Pencil in Saturday 7th November as the start date for the beginning of the pennant season....all going to schedule of course. We shall keep you informed with updates as they become available. Our members can't wait !

08.01.2022 No bowls, but I'm enjoying plants that have been given to me by Bowler- Gardeners over the years. These glorious flowers were originally picked up at bowls clubs. I remember thinking that the 'gladie' bulbs were scraggy looking at the time, but took a dozen or so home with me. Years later....look at these beauties. Appearances are deceiving....bowlers and bulbs have a habit of surprising. Just some of the wonderful Bowls-Bulbs Connections to be had !

08.01.2022 What a night that was had last night! The vibe was here last night for @bowl.b.que.fridays as we bowled into the night. Mr @hansdc [aka The Phantom Sun] provided a musical treat while the edible treats were served out all night by Julian and Fabio at @fancyhanksbbq . The vibes don’t stop here as we’re going again today with more bowls and more beers from our mates at @younghenrys so come down to say hi and have a bowl!

08.01.2022 Bowl-B-Que Fridays are back this Friday, and they have a very special deal for you all.. Check it out

08.01.2022 Life Member Laurie Jones died on Friday. Laurie, alongside with wife Barbara were stalwarts and long serving servants of Princes Park. Their family's involvement with our club spans several generations. Our reputation as a Family Club can in large part be attributed to their family's association and heavy lifting. Our condolences to Barbara and the family. We shall keep you posted when details of remembrance services are forthcoming.

07.01.2022 Another gorgeous day down here at the club... If you’re in the area come by for a drink or two and have some fun

07.01.2022 It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon down here at the club today - Perfect day for a bowl, a drink and some fun - So come join us

05.01.2022 We're all bunkering down wondering when Bowls will get going again. The board is currently discussing options to get our members back on the green in a Social capacity- once current restrictions are lifted. In all probability our pennant bowls fixture will be 'disturbed somewhat'. We play pennant in Melbourne's northern - western suburbs ( it would be wildly optimistic to assume the forthcoming season being 'undisturbed'. So we're planning on contingencies, weekend social ga...mes etc. Our greens are being maintained beautifully and we'd love to see them being enjoyed by our members and the bowls community at large. Stay tuned for updates. See more

05.01.2022 We’re open for business! Come down and join the fun

05.01.2022 The Gang of Four say it's OK to bowl ! As of next weekend members will be allowed on the green from 12- 3 Saturday and Sunday. An email will be going out to members fully explaining guidelines and restrictions. A very pleasant and productive Board Meeting in The Park....you gotta love Princes Park !

05.01.2022 The board will be meeting on Saturday to discuss 'dipping toes in the water' initiatives with a view of allowing our members to have a wee roll on our beautiful Greens. Whilst adhering to all the state government guidelines and restrictions . One of the items on the agenda will be increasing Social Distancing requirements for The Soldatichs. A minimum of 11.5 Metres might be the recommendation !

04.01.2022 Another beautiful day at Princes Park. We're biased....but we reckon we're members of Melbourne's most beautiful bowls club !

03.01.2022 We sure are excited for tomorrow's re-opening here at the bowls club and can't wait to be launching our brand new weekly Friday evening series called "Bowl-B-Que Fridays" at the same time. Bowl-B-Que Fridays will be featuring: Live Music, Food Trucks, Bar + Bowls each Friday from 5pm until Late.. So come join the fun - It’s Free Entry and Covid-Safe!... Bowl-B-Que Fridays is proudly supported by our good friends at Fancy Hank's BBQ Restaurant and Young Henrys brewery

03.01.2022 Bowled Over on SBS tonight at 8.30. The last time we had Drag performances at the club one of the artistes took a shining to our Diversity Manager Paul Soldatich. Bad Boy was in his element , " I want our club to be the first bowls club in Australia that fields a rink of Thai Lady Bowls in a pennant match. And I'll skip them to a flag." " Honey....with you calling the shots at the head...anything's possible ! " Many a visitor to our club has been BOWLED OVER....there's not another bowls club in the country quite like Princes Park Carlton !

03.01.2022 Green shoots and blooms are on the horizon. Fingers crossed that we'll be enjoying our beautiful club and greens sometime in September. We all know that on a glorious Sunny Melbourne Afternoon there isn't a lovelier spot in town than Princes Park !

02.01.2022 Life's Contradictions and Inconvenient Truths My father's record collection paints a pretty good picture of Where His Nationalistic Loyalties Lay. Italian Folk ...Music, Italian Popular Music ( pre war and post war by and large ) , Italian Opera and the odd surprises, completely out of Left Field. His taste in music couldn't help reflect having been the child of The Austro Hungarian Empire. He loved Johann Strauss, however loathed Wagner. Liking his aggressive music to the bellicose Barbarians ( Germans ). His father, my paternal grandfather was a descendant of a 'Minor noble Hungarian family' who had long lost their standing and money by the time my grandfather came of age. My paternal grandmother was peasant Croatian Stock, thinking she was 'marrying above her station ' hooking up with hapless Antonio de Marsanich. It didn't take her long to work out she'd been 'short changed' in the bargain. By all accounts she was a strong willed No Nonsense woman ( she was a Customs Officer working the Italian - Yugoslav border and she'd shake down the Slavic women crossing the border into Italy with contraband ) he was a feckless bloke who hung around bars playing cards and drinking. My father adored his mother and thought his father was a bit of a 'waster'. Antonio was a soldier in the Austrian Army during the First World War, despite his very limited skills in Germanic languages..eins,zwei.drei.und.raus,was about the extent of it. His fluency in Croatian was far more beneficial to Franz Josef The Emperor of Austria. He was despatched off to Bosnia as a prison guard to keep all those troublesome Slavs under control. He was a loyal servant of the soon to be disintegrated Austro Hungarian Empire. When my father was born in 1920 the city of his birth was in turmoil. The post war negotiations sanctioned Fiume as a Free City ( a quasi Monte Carlo on the Adriatic ). Italy and the newly created country of Yugoslavia were squabbling over its possession and Naming Rights. Squabbling Wogs have been central to who I am today. My father was an Italian Patriot, despite his Slavic - Hungarian DNA. During his service in the Italian Navy during the war his ship mates teased him by calling him Lo Slavo....not a fair dinkum Italian in their eyes. I'd draw a comparison to some of the Maltese kids I grew up with speaking Strine ( Australian Slang ) to prove they were Aussies . I always thought wogs speaking strine was comical . My father 'fought' all his life to prove were his loyalties lay. Having coined himself ' Sono Tre Volte Italiano' ( I'm Three Times Italian ). In his reckoning, because one he was 'born' Italian, two because he was born in a contested border town where you had to PROVE where your loyalties lay and three because he'd spent most of his adult life living in Australia but refused to relinquish his Italian Citizenship to become an Australian Citizen ( my mother thought he was a fruitcake on this score...and a few other sore points for that matter ). When I wrote his epitaph for Il Globo ( Melbourne's Italian newspaper ) the young Italian backpacker working the phone asked me if Sono Tre Volte Italiano was an old Italian folk song. My old man would have judgementally raised his bushy eyebrows....' these modern Italian's patriotism only awakens once every 4 years when Italy plays in The World Cup.' And just for the record he couldn't stand football ( soccer )...a very un Italian trait if ever there was one ! Maybe his ship mates during the war had a point...' This bloke's not a fair dinkum Italian ' See more

01.01.2022 The Rumble in the Jungle. Pretty Boy Lankshear vs The Mouth Soldatich. We've waited far too long....and Sunday finally sees the Covid Delayed showdown. It promises to be a cracker of a match. Don King couldn't have conjured up this final. Pretty Boy is taking it in his stride and The Mouth is coming out with his customary outbursts. " There'll be one more Soldatich on that Honour Board ." His father Giulio has won two club singles titles and Paul has been living in his fath...er's shadow for years. Will Bad Boy live up to his Trumpian Grandstanding,or will Pretty Boy cause the upset of the decade. Sunday at Princes Park promises FIREWORKS ! See more

01.01.2022 Fridays have never been so good Bowl-B-Que Fridays returns for another great evening on the greens.. See below for all the details and their Epic Special Offer ... See you there
