25.01.2022 YOU IN ME: There is a story of a monk who knocked on the door of heaven seeking entrance. A voice asked, Who are you? The monk replied, It is I. The door... did not open. After many years, he tried again. As he knocked the same voice asked, Who are you? It is I , replied the monk. Again the door remained shut. Finally, he went back. This time he was and far wiser as a Christian. When the voice asked, Who are you? the monk replied, You in me , whereupon the voice replied, Come in. Yes it’s the same with all of us, the more we know Christ, the wiser we become. Because Christ already knows us, but we are still trying to know Christ. And the more we know Christ again, the wiser we become. So maybe when , one day we knock on heavens door, and the voice says to us, Who are you? Lord it’s You , in me. See more

24.01.2022 Our life is child’s play, only not innocent, but sinful, because, with a strong mind, and with the knowledge of the purpose of our life, we neglect this purpose and occupy ourselves with frivolous, purposeless matters. And thus our life is childish, unpardonable play.

22.01.2022 What proponents of the Abortion-to-Birth Bill are not saying In recent days, proponents of the Abortion-to-Birth Bill have come out in the counter-attack. Tammy... Franks' letter (which we posted below), Vickie Chapman's letter to Senator Alex Antic, the President of the Law Society - they say many things, but above all, they say that we are being "misled". What is most interesting is what they are *not* saying. They are *not* saying that this Bill *doesn't* allow abortion-to-birth. They are being very careful not to say this, because they know that this Bill does allow exactly that. Instead of addressing this issue directly, they try to deflect attention from it by saying that abortion in the third trimester is "rare". As with all deception, there is an element of truth to this. Certainly, abortion is "rare" when compared with the total number of abortions conducted - around only 2.6% of all abortions in 2017 were for third trimester. But to put it into absolute terms, with around 4,300 abortions in SA in 2017, that means around 110 late-term abortions. By comparison, there were only 100 deaths due to road accidents in SA in the same year - and still we spend millions (rightly so) trying to reduce that number still further!!! Being "rare" is not an excuse to allow it to happen. The second reason that this comment is deceptive is because the main reason that this Bill is being put forward is (supposedly) to decriminalise abortion. Yet, prosecution is even rarer than late-term abortion - in fact, no woman or medical practitioner has actually been prosecuted for this crime for years! If being "rare" is an excuse to do nothing, then this Bill simply isn't needed at all! Please stay informed - let your friends, relatives, co-workers and most importantly your MPs know about these issues, and most important that you are unhappy with them.

10.01.2022 Put up with that person who grieves you and creates temptations. Put up with him joyfully. Pray for him every day. Always try to do good to him, to commend him..., to speak to him with love, and God will work His miracle and he will reform. Then our Christ will be glorified, the devil, who sets up all the stumbling- blocks, will be foiled. Force yourself especially to stop criticizing and lying. Your penance is to do one komboskini (prayer rope) every day for this person who hates you, so that God may enlighten him to repent, and do ten more metanoias (prostrations) daily for one month. If this person does something against you, overlook it, be patient. Let yourself be wronged, but do no wrong; let yourself be slapped, but do not slap; let yourself be criticized, but do not criticize. When you do all of this, then the Son of God, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, will dwell in your soul. Fight the good fight; overlook the deeds of this person just as Christ has overlooked your sins. +Elder Ephraim of Arizona

At her feet are books, geographical tools, etc. which symbolize her great wisdom and learning. Behind her in the icon are depicted the Prophet Moses and the Burning Bush (prefiguring the Theotokos) and the Angels transferring St. Catherine's Relic.

06.01.2022 Let everything take second place to our care of our children, our bringing them up to the discipline and instruction of the Lord. If from the beginning we teach them to love true wisdom, they will have great wealth and glory than riches can provide. If a child learns a trade, or is highly educated for a lucrative profession, all this is nothing compared to the art of detachment from riches; if you want to make your child rich, teach him this. He is truly rich who does not desire great possessions, or surround himself with wealth, but who requires nothingDon’t think that only monks need to learn the Bible; Children about to go our into the world stand in greater need of Scriptural knowledge.

04.01.2022 The ER for the Soul The Church is the Hospital of the Soul Orthodoxy offers a very precise way to enter into communion with God. It is a way that must be learne...d, for simply becoming Orthodox will not lead the seeker into an inner life that transforms and enlightens. Membership in the Church is not enough, for the Church is not just about beautiful services, icons, and mystical theology. As a hospital for the soul, it is a place where we can receive healing for what ails us. Yet patients can’t simply walk into an emergency room and expect to be healed. They have to submit themselves to examination by the ER staff, who ask them to describe what is going on and where they are hurting. The hospital staff who run tests, and prescribe the necessary medication or treatment that will bring about healing. Within the hospital of the soul, the Church, priests act in the same capacity as ER personnel. They interview the patient (parishioner), and through the Sacrament of Confession, examine the heart to find the sickness, and recommend the cure. The priest serves as the therapeutic guide, and recommends what the parishioner can do in order to be made whole. A prayer rule, the daily reading of the Holy Scriptures, and frequent confession and reception of the Holy Mysteries are all part of the Church’s medicine that will bring about the cure. Just as the doctor prescribes the proper dosage after getting to know her patient, so the priest prescribes what will help his spiritual son or daughter. The spiritual life needs to be learned, perhaps more so now than at any time in history. As godlessness increases, so do obstacles to spiritual progress. The degradation of the whole of our society and the depths of depravity that have become a normal part of our age have made this a dangerous time. Going it alone spiritually can leave one vulnerable to spiritual delusion. We all need a trusted and experienced guide who can help us avoid the pitfalls of the pride and self-will that would lead us down to perdition. Saint John Chrysostom tells us, "The Church is a hospital, and not a courtroom, for souls. She does not condemn on behalf of sins, but grants remission of sins." With love in Christ, Abbot Tryphon

01.01.2022 Encyclical to be read at tomorrow's service: Dear Reverend Fathers, brothers and sisters in Christ, As you may be aware, this Wednesday 14th of October a new Bi...ll was tabled in SA parliament under the guise of decriminalising abortion. There are supposedly safeguards, but because finding two medical practitioners out of the 9,000 in our State who will consider an abortion medically appropriate is merely a formality, the practical effect of this Bill will be to allow abortion all the way up to birth for any reason. To make matters worse, this Bill defines it as a form of abuse to coerce a woman to not have an abortion. Parents who try to discourage their pregnant daughters from going down this path (that is harmful both to them and their unborn grandchild) risk being labelled Abusers! With the God-given miracles of modern medicine, a child past the age of 22 weeks and 6 days gestation can be delivered via induction or caesarean and have a real chance of survival. Even if the life of the mother is at stake, Doctors can terminate the pregnancy, without killing the child.
