25.01.2022 The Skyneedle during Expo 88 site construction. Following Expo 88's completion, the 88-metre tall landmark was earmarked for relocation to Tokyo Disneyland. However, businessman Stefan Ackerie stepped in and purchased the Skyneedle, relocating it to Stefan HQ in South Brisbane.



23.01.2022 Former Brisbane trams No. 277, 429 and 554 enjoying a photo-shoot at the Brisbane Tramway Museum in 1998. Located at Ferny Grove, the museum was eventually opened in 1980 - work into creating it starting in the late 1960s after it became apparent Brisbane's tram network was set to be closed.

21.01.2022 The Battle of Brisbane started on this day in 1942 - a large-scale riot between United States military personnel stationed in Brisbane, and Australian military personnel. Pictured is a letter sent from Prime Minister John Curtin to the Queensland Premier regarding the incident.



20.01.2022 Crossing the Brisbane River onboard the Moggill Ferry in 1977. Still running today, a ferry has existed at this particular location since 1878.

17.01.2022 Surfers Paradise's Cavill Avenue in 1963 - back when its entire length was still a regular street. The section between Surfers Paradise Beach and Orchid Avenue was redeveloped into the pedestrian mall we know today in 1976.

15.01.2022 Considered the fisherman’s bible, Grant’s Guide to Fishes has come a long way in 56 years! Before Ern Grant could start photographing his catches, the book was filled with beautiful illustrations by G. Coates and F. Olsen of fish found on the Queensland coast. 12.01.2022 Motorists crossing Southport's Jubilee Bridge in 1966 - the same year it was demolished, replaced by the Sundale Bridge. Providing the first road connection to Surfers Paradise, the Jubilee Bridge was crucial to the area's development as a holiday resort mecca.

11.01.2022 On the left, the 1897 Victoria Bridge is being dismantled while traffic is using the 1969 bridge on the right. Brisbane traffic required a wider bridge. If you visit South Brisbane today, you can still see one of the stone sections of the abutment from the 1897 bridge. ITM436418

09.01.2022 Bundaberg's Bourbong Street sometime in the 1970s. There's a bit of contention around the etymology of 'Bourbong', with the street having alternately been spelled Boorbong (the Bunda word for 'large waterhole') and Bourbon in the past.

06.01.2022 Armed with a fishing rod, Ern Grant began cataloguing his catches for the Grant's Guide to Fishes, known affectionately as the 'Fisherman's Bible'. For the first publication in 1965, Grant's work focused on the Queensland coastline, with a range of beautiful paintings produced by F. Olsen and G. Coates.
