19.01.2022 #Spring is just around the corner and #schoolholidays are one of the busiest times for visitors on K’gari (Fraser Island). It’s also a period of high activity f...or the local wongari (dingo) population. September to November is when wongari pups are learning hunting and survival skills from their parents, and can often be seen following their mother out of the den to explore areas close by. If food from humans is available, pups may not learn the natural hunting skills they need to stay ‘living wild’. Feeding wongari can lead them to becoming dependent on human hand-outs as a food source and can cause them to become familiar and aggressive towards people. It’s important to remember that wongari on K’gari are wild, apex predators and should not be confused with or treated as domestic pets. The best way to appreciate them is from a distancetheir life and our safety depend on wongari remaining wild and naturally wary of people. So whether your family is visiting the island for the first time, or are regular visitors, the best thing you can do for the wongari is to appreciate them from a distance. As the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation - BAC people say we’d like all visitors to give our wongari spaceK’gari is their place. On K’gari, our QPWS rangers work closely with the Butchulla people, the traditional custodians, to make sure that visitors and residents stay dingo-safe. When on the island everyone has a responsibility to stay safe and minimise harm for our native animals. Plan ahead to make sure your trip is dingo-safe at http://ow.ly/BKRb50BkjG3 #qldenvironment

17.01.2022 Don't forget to stop in and stock up on your way into or out of beautiful Rainbow Beach or magnificent Fraser Island.

14.01.2022 DINGO FAMILY SPOTTED ON FRASER ISLAND There were plenty of families enjoying Fraser Island over the school holidays, including these three dingo pups which w...ere spotted on the western side of the island checking out a local creek. Holidaymaker and Sunshine Coast cameraman Dan Toney took the pictures at a safe distance at Wathumba Creek last week. The Department of Environment and Science says dingoes mate only once a year and have pups between June and August, with litters of between 1 and 10 pups. If you visit Fraser remember to be dingo safe: Always stay very close to children. Don’t walk alone. Walk in groups. Do not run. Dan Toney

03.01.2022 Did you know road rules apply on beaches? If you're 4WDing, it's best to slow down, watch for hazards (like dingoes!), and drive to the conditions. What's the best beach to drive on? https://bit.ly/3lpTPUG
