24.01.2022 Solar is good but wind power works night and day. Field trip at the Solar Installers annual training . This year at Phillip island. The boat out to French Island was good. The Eco Lodge has a new 10kW Windmill and 5.0kW of panels. There is a stack of batteries there to get through the night. There is no mains power.

22.01.2022 Solar Update Victoria: Time for a Fair Feed in Tariff The Victorian Essential Services Commission (ESC) has published the minimum feed in tariff rate for 2016 in Victoria at $0.05 cents per kilowatt hour.... According to the Victorian Electricity Industry Act 2000, the ESC could only consider wholesale electricity prices and transmission losses when setting the feed in tariff rate. This means that the review could not, under law, consider the true value of distributed solar energy. Further, the Commissioner noted that the ESC could not consider the impact of new technologies such as energy storage technology. According to John Grimes, the Chief Executive of the Australian Solar Council, this meant the review was conducted "with one arm tied behind its back". "The result? This decision delivers a transfer of wealth from solar PV owners to electricity retailers. "Solar energy exported to the grid is sold to your neighbors at the full retail rate, often upwards of $0.25 per kilowatt-hour. "So paying a solar owner $0.05 cents per kilowatt hour for that exported energy is simply unfair." This decision represents a direct attack on the hundreds of thousands of solar customers in Victoria. "We call on the Victorian government to amend the legislation and conduct a fair review, including all of the true benefits of exported solar power, before next year. "We need a fair price for solar in Victoria." The Australian Solar Council is standing by to play a constructive role to bring fairness back to the feed in tariff assessment process in Victoria. 15.01.2022 Sometimes a power bill is smaller. A 2kW system can cover that. Here we used the Aurora Power one Inverter, it needs to be under cover like inside this garage. Its has a full graphic display like the Sma inverters have. That means a great little graph of the days production. The 8 panels fitted just nicely on the Northern Garage roof.

The Australian Solar Councils Save Solar campaign through the WA Senate election shifted votes to candidates that support solar and the Renewable Energy Target. Three of the five elected Senators support solar and maintaining the Renewable Energy Target and there is a good chance the final seat could be taken by a Senator who strongly supports solar.... Greens Senator Scott Ludlam campaigned strongly on protecting and increasing the Renewable Energy Target and received a six per cent boost in support, whilst Palmer United Partys Dio Wang publicly backed solar and the Renewable Energy Target. The Abbott Government should heed the message from WA voters and shelve its plans to slash the Renewable Energy Target.

A small terrace house in the inner Sydney suburb of Glebe is hosting what is believed to be the worlds first building integrated solar system that generates electricity as well as heat. bluescope bipvc The array combines thin-film solar PV and solar thermal technologies into a steel sheet roofing product produced by Australian steel manufacturer Bluescope, with assistance from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. The top layer of the roofing product (pictured) generates electricity in the same way as solar PV modules although it uses thin film technology for less weight and thickness while heat is trapped and distributed between the two layers for use in water and space heating. The BIPVT installation is being hailed as a product that could one day be sold on Australian rooftops, although Bluescope is quick to point out that wont be anytime soon. It has, however, said in the past that it feels it will be a cost competitive product for homes and businesses. But more work needs to be done in understanding supply chains and manufacturing costs before it is launched on the market. Still, ARENA, which is facing closure from Tony Abbotts ultra conservative government, was happy to promote the product, and the result of a $2.3 million grant for the $5 million project. Today we are witnessing an exciting new technology solution moving from the lab to be prototyped on everyday Australian rooftops for the first time,ARENA CEO Ivor Frischknecht said in a statement. The old corrugated steel roof on this house in Glebe has been completely replaced with the first integrated photovoltaic (PV) thermal system in Australia, generating reliable renewable energy for the residents. A tile roof in the Illawarra region has also been replaced with the integrated PV system, demonstrating its versatility.

The Australian Solar Council the peak body for the solar industry - has slammed the Federal Government for delivering three broken solar promises. The Budget has delivered a trifecta of broken promises to the solar industry, said John Grimes, Chief Executive of the Australian Solar Council. The Government promised the Australian people an additional million solar roofs by 2020. The Budget contains no funding to make this happen. A Million Solar Roofs is a mirage. The Government promised to maintain the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) but, instead, the Budget has delivered a death warrant for ARENA. Unless the Senate stands up to the Government, ARENA will be abolished. The Government promised to maintain the Renewable Energy Target but every indication is this key policy will also be thrown on the scrapheap. The Budget is a boulevard of broken dreams for the solar industry. World-leading solar research and development will now end. For decades, Australian solar researchers have led the world, developing the solar technologies of today and the future, but that all ends today. Whilst the Government defends billions of dollars of fuel subsidies for wealthy miners, it has abolished our world-leading solar research. "The Budget rips $1.3 billion from ARENA, making a combined $1.8 billion that has been ripped from the agency since the Government was elected. The Abbott Government needs to explain to all Australians why it has made a trifecta of broken promises.
