Do set real numbers with deadlines and real reasons, Don't just say "I want to be healthy" get more specific to what healthy means to you and why you want to do it. M- Measurable. Include a way to measure your goal such as, time frame or amount. A- Attainable. Do work towards a goal that is challenging but not impossible. (Rome wasn't bulid in one night). R- Realistic. Be open and honest with yourself. If you set a goal of working out 5 times a week but know your gonna snooze it at least twice a week then be realistic and make your goal 3 times a week you'll go to gym. T- Time. 22.01.2022 Single arm dumbbell bent over row . . Dont just think of this as just another back exercise. Yes it will will work those Lats but it also calls on the help from your delts, biceps and even your core for stability! .... . Lets break it down . 1. Find a sturdy plat form. I personally find a flat bench to be my pick. Place your dumbbells on either side on the floor. 2. Firmly place hand down on bench in front of you. Position right knee (if you are rowing with left arm) on bench directly under hips. Position your other leg against back of bench; this will ensure stability. Bend over to a 45 degree angle. Keep your spine straight, neutral neck. Be mindful of not looking up or too far down. Looking directly at the bench can help here. 3. Pick up dumbbell with left hand using neutral grip. Embrace your core with an inhale and pull dumbbell up to your arm pit with elbow tucked in. Engage those Lats as you pull up. 4. Use a slow and controlled movement on the way down and exhale. Come just past the bench with a slight bend in elbow. This will help the Lats to be continually engaged. 5. Perform all reps on this side. Then switch sides and do the same. 6. Repeat exercise . . #when choosing a weight start light and work up. We want to overload the muscles whilst staying at a weight you can control this way youll get the most out of exercise. Start with a lighter weight at 10 to 12 reps. Increase weight until you are dropping your reps down to 6 to 8 . . If you are unsure if you are performing these correctly reach out! 16.01.2022 Gym Bag! @musclenation . Do you have one? For me its a must have. It saves so much time rummaging around the gym trying to find accessories for your workout. Its all in one place! . Lets talk basic essentials for your workout to run smoothly and allow for variation and fun ... . Top of the list... 1. Spare hair ties. What is worse than starting your workout and having hair flicking in your face. Or even worse snapping it and you have nothing. You will spend half your time getting frustrated and holding it back. 2. Headphones! Put them on and start pumping your favourite tunes (or even a podcast you have been trying to make time to listen to) this will get you in the zone, focused and motivated. (Can even serve as an extra benefit if you want to avoid those long gym convos with other people and smash your workout). 3. Drink bottle: for every hour we are in the gym we should be drinking 100 to 200ml p/h. And if its a HIIT session make that 200-300ml. Think of how much sweat comes off you.. we need to make sure we replace that. 4. Towel: this is now so much more important due to COVID. This isnt just about your sweat. You cannot see what you are lying in.. think 3 others before you having back sweat like crazy I mean we are they to sweat after all!!. 5. Elastic booty bands: Start your leg day with some activation exercises together with this band and, Hello booty burn Those glutes will be activates and ready to grow. 6. Fabric booty bands: Who doesnt want to build their glutes? Most gyms will have rubber ones. But have you tried fabric? Next level here Add these to your leg day exercises eg glute thurst. You will find the extra resistance will take your training to the next level!. @angrycalf 7. Glute pad: Following on from that booty burn we need to add hip thrusts. Have you ever just used the barbell and no pad? Hip bruises and discomfort come at you!. Quite often the gym will have one. But is old, ripped or broken. 15.01.2022 My journey for health and happiness did not start out from a place of love. I had a family member continually tell me how fat I was. Each time hurt me in a different way! This led me to have a negative association with myself and my body! I didnt respect it or the person u was. I was ashamed . Enough was enough! I endeavoured to prove them and the world wrong! I would lose the excess weight. And I did. But still I wasnt any happier. Until I dug a bit deeper to discover (a...nd trust me its taken mqny of years for this revolution) the only person I need to prove something to is ME! I am the one that matters! . I am now able to look at this body from a positive angle. This is what carries me around day to day! It helps me laugh and love! . 11.01.2022 Active wear! For most women it takes up about 80% of our wardrobe. Its gone from being what you wear when exercising to now wearing it out to lunch with friends. . My clients will often as me to recommend a brand. Or ask if expensive equals quality. I have a few ideas that may make this decision a bit clearer. . Lets look at it for the purpose of working out. We still want to be comfortable and feel confident (which can be hard ) ... . I would start by not comparing to others. Certain brands will be flattering to different body types. So those Lorna Janes May look good on your friend but not every body type is the same, we are all individuals and that makes us beautiful. . Let me ask some few simple questions that will help you make the right decision when picking clothes ! . 1. What are you goals? Weight loss, muscle or maintenance etc 2. Do you like fitted clothes? 3. What is your favourite colour? 4. Whats your budget? . If you are on a weightloss/fat loss journey buying a $100 pair of leggings makes no sense. Realistically you are hoping to not be that size for long. Cotton On or Kmart (yep I said Kmart) tick the boxes for comfort, style and budget. . If you are happy with where you are at you know you will be wearing these day in and day out! So you want quality. And quality isnt always cheap. But well worth it! My go tos are @musclenation and @doyoueven. I find they are flattering and so comfortable. Easy to work out in and breathable. . If your not comfortable in tight fitting then wear loose clothes (girl you do you!). Your biggest priority is getting to the gym and feeling comfortable (no one looks good while their working out). . Colour can brighten you up! I tend to change my mind a bit here (all the time). At the moment I love green! If you wanna buy those bright orange leggings then go for it!! . Dont break the bank to think you have to look a certain way. 04.01.2022 Building up a stronger chest is a great way to help create those perfectly rounded deltoids, and help sculpt the triceps (good bye tuck shop lady arms! ) while also building stronger pectoralis major. . Low cable chest fly is not only good for working those pecks but also it a great way to work your core stability and muscles mentioned above ! . Lets break it down ..... . 1. Find a cable machine and lower the cables to ensure its even on both sides. Attach handles to cable. 2. Grip both handles and step forward into a Staggered stance, placing your dominant leg forward. Create a slight bend in the front knee and keep back leg straight (why hello core muscles; heres the stability we mentioned before) 3. Having plams facing up, maintain a slight bend in elbows. Let your inner tree hugger out here (thats the shape your should be creating) Bring the handles together at face height to complete the hug ! 4. Slowly lower back to the starting position. 5. A common misconception is it’s only an issue for women. This statement is false. We need to understand what it is and the role it plays. ... So... What is Pelvic Floor:. It is a group of muscles and connective tissue that sit inside the bottom of the pelvis. You will find them between your tailbone and pubic bone (within your pelvis). They are also referred to as the base of the CORE! (Yes think of those abs ) They work in conjunction with other muscles to aid with support and regulate pressure within the abdomen. My role as a Pre and Post Natal coach is to help you gauge a better understanding of these muscles! 03.01.2022 LOW BACK PAIN - Strengthening exercises! Follow along and try these at home to help combat your Low Back Pain 1. Pelvic Reset:... Good for current low back pain; hold just below your knee and pull toward your armpit to a good stretch in the glute. Hold the leg firm as you try to straighten the leg, after 3 secs relax and apply further stretch, repeat 3 times each side. 2. Abdominal bent leg extensions: Good for low back stiffness; lay on your back and gentle press your low back toward the floor by tightening your tummy muscles. Work through slow breaths to hold the low back still as you slowly alternate lowering one foot to the floor at a time, repeat X10 each side 3. Bird-Dog Good for coordinating abdominal control when low back pain is minimal; slowly alternate limbs lifting from the floor, reaching your legs to the wall behind you and your arms to the wall in front. Primary aim is to minimize rocking sides to side and maintain tight tummy muscles to limit arching of the low back (very important). Repeat x10 each side. 02.01.2022 Flat dumbell bench press ! Not only a peck (chest) exercise it works together with alot of other muscles such as delts and biceps. . . Lets break in down into steps for you. .... 1. Find a flat bench and dumbbells that are appropriate weight for your goals. 2. Place dumbbells in front of bench grabbing 1 dumbbell at a time and placing on knees, bring dumbbells upto chest start with dumbbells over your centre chest (nipple line). 3. Placing feet firm onto ground or on end of bench, create a natural curve in your spine. Flare your lats here to create stability, with straight wrist then bring dumbbells down towards your chest making sure they are not too far forward, over your shoulders and keep shoulders leveled (as this wont work your chest as effectively) 5. Extend arms up to make dumbbell touch at top, keep the dumbbells aligned with centre of chest. 6. Repeat exercise. . . #when choosing a weight start light and work up. 16.12.2021 Christmas can be a tricky time of the year. There are some who can enjoy their food freely without guilt and I encourage you to do so! But there are some of us who can't help but feel guilty and I request you not to judge them. ... As much as I am an envocate not to track this day and just enjoy it I know there is a inner demon voice telling you that you shouldn't/can't. Here's a guideline to help you through Christmas day; Plan ahead. Ask what will be served for lunch or dinner so you can either track or have a plan in place. This could also be an opportunity to put in special requests eg: no oil on your potatoes. Let people around you know. Let them know your not wanting to over indulge or are feeling uncomfortable around eatting, this will help with peer pressure. Only eat what YOU want to eat. Just cause someone offers you food doesn't mean you have to eat, eat the foods you want. Use a smaller plate. Peer pressure on Christmas can sometimes be over whelming, by using a smaller plate it still looks like your joining in and eatting lots of food but your eatting less. Have a exit plan. Having a plan in place if it gets too much will help calm your nerves this will allow you to know you can leave if you need.
