24.01.2022 Latest update from the ICC in relation to shining the ball...

24.01.2022 There have been a lot of enquiries over the last week about the possibility of using the indoor nets/training area now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased. The short answer is NO - THE INDOOR NETS REMAIN CLOSED. This is because under the current restrictions that were updated at 11.59pm on Tuesday 12 May, indoor physical recreation facilities, including gyms, yoga studios, wellness centres, barre and spin facilities and health studios all remain closed and are prohibited ac...tivities. Indoor sports/recreation remains prohibited as there is an increase in the risk of transmission while exercising in an enclosed space. This is regardless of how many participants there are. Accordingly the INDOOR nets are still closed and the use of them would breach the current COVID-19 restrictions put in place by the Chief Health Officer. The outdoor nets may be used provided you use all your own equipment. We ask that you use your own equipment due to the risk of multiple people using communal or club equipment and there being no way to properly sanitise the equipment between users. So while the outdoor nets are able to be used, the equipment shed and all equipment in it and the indoor nets remain off limits. We know this will disappoint many people, but as a club we need to ensure that we do everything we can to abide by the restrictions that are in place and ensure that everyone is safe. Please refer to these links for all the details and the specific recommendations for Cricket from Sport & Recreation Victoria...... https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/sport-cultural-and-recreational https://sport.vic.gov.au//resumption-of-sport-and-recreati

23.01.2022 The below link sets out a basic framework and agreement between footy and cricket in Victoria for the timing of the seasons this year into next year. Were not sure what will happen locally with the footy season and our ability to access grounds in September/October and even when the cricket season will start this year. The start of cricket season could be pushed back several weeks. As soon as we hear any more from the BCA or anyone else, well let you know.

23.01.2022 Got to love the considerate dog owner who left this for us at Vic Park this morning. Surely it’s not that hard to pick up after your dog!

23.01.2022 Barry Leach Funeral. A service to celebrate the exceptional life of Barry Leach will be held this Thursday at 10.30am at St. Peters Anglican Church in Sturt Street, Ballarat (between Ripon and Pleasant Streets). Due to current restrictions only 50 people can attend the service, so we at the Wendouree Cricket Club will gather outside to show our respect to Barry and his family for the legacy he has left our club. ... For those who are able to attend, we will form a Guard of Honour for Barry at the conclusion of the service (at approximately 11.10am). Please meet opposite the church on the centre median strip in Sturt Street. If you are able to, please wear your club tie and/or red cap. We will of course comply with the 1.5 metre social distancing rules. Barrys contribution to the club has been enormous - stretching over 40 years as a committee member and President. Barry and Bev also supplied 2 elite players to our ranks in Peter and Andrew Leach. Bev was also a significant contributor to our club. So if you have time, please attend and give Barry the send off he deserves. Max Drew President

22.01.2022 Another batting master class from Heath Pyke at Mt Clear yesterday. Pykey blasted 173 from 102 balls including 21 4’s and 8 6’s with one that landed on the road and went down a drain sending the Mounties scrambling to find a replacement ball. Simmo and Pykey shared a 140 run partnership to see the Red Caps post 306 from our 45 overs before rain halted the game with Wendouree in the box seat. ... Pics from Kate Healy at The Courier

14.01.2022 Unfortunately it looks like the announcement this morning by Dan Andrews about further easing of COVID-19 restrictions doesnt give us any joy in relation to using the indoor nets just yet. Our understanding of this announcement is that indoor sports facilities such as our indoor nets remain off limits until 22 June. Well update you if this changes.

13.01.2022 Today we acknowledge another one of our loyal Sponsors... We thank WCC Life Member Mat Ashton and his team for his continued support of our club. The best landscaping businesses in the West of the state. Give the crew at Ballarat Groundworks a call for any of your landscaping needs.

09.01.2022 With Regional Victoria moving to Step 3 on the COVID Roadmap as of Midnight on Wednesday we understand everyone is keen to start cricket training. We are looking at the details of STEP 3 restrictions to determine how we can safely start training. While non-contact sport can resume it is subject to density limits. ... We need to work out the size of the groups we can have at training (possibly maximum of 10 people in a group) and whether we can have multiple groups at each training session. There will be many COVID Safe requirements that we need to comply with when we do commence training sessions. It is likely that there will be no shared equipment at any training sessions or games this season. We need to work out how this can be accomplished, while still providing sufficient cricket balls and equipment for training and games. We hope to have answers to all these questions and some guidance from Cricket Victoria by the end of the week. Well then update all our players, parents and members as soon as possible. We dont expect that any organised training sessions will be held until at least next week and then it is likely to be a phased return to training over the next 1-2 weeks. If anyone plans to use the nets for their own personal training in the next few days we ask that you DO NOT use equipment or cricket balls in the shed until we work out our own protocols and how we will sanitise it after each use. Rest assured that your committee and junior coaches are working around the clock to get us back to training and playing as quickly and safely as possible. Regards, Tim Argall President Wendouree Cricket Club https://www.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-restrictions-ro

06.01.2022 Cricket Victoria have released their COVID-19 RETURN TO TRAIN GUIDELINES that came into effect today - 1st June. 05.01.2022 Junior & Senior Clothing Orders NOW OPEN This season, Hip Pocket Work Wear at 1265 Howitt Street, Wendouree will supply BOTH our Junior and Senior clothing. This includes our cream and red playing clothes, all training clothing, red caps, beanies, hoodies, jackets and our other off field range. The Junior and Senior catalogues can be found by clicking the below link. ... There is only a 2 week window for everyone to order their clothing from Hip Pocket. To do this, you need to go into Hip Pocket and order and pay for your items directly with them. The advantage of this is that you can try on all the items before you order them to make sure you get the right size. Once you order and pay for the items, you will then get a text message from Hip Pocket in late September when the items are ready to be collected. Its that easy! There is a chance that the season may start a little later than we first thought and that there may be more one-day games in the fixtures than we expected. For this reason it is strongly advised that all prospective 1st & 2nd XI players buy themselves a red one-day kit. The club has very limited supply of red playing kit and we dont expect to hold much stock this season so if you dont order your own red kit, you may not get one. Juniors are welcome to purchase a red training shirt this season (not compulsory but an option). Juniors can get their name on the back of it, but NO NUMBER. Seniors can get their name and a number on their red shirt. The cut off for ordering the clothing this year is Friday 14th August this is to ensure that the items are here prior to the scheduled start of the season in the first week of October. http://wendouree.vic.cricket.com.au/content.aspx?file=11104|47996b

02.01.2022 Its great to see Nathan Yates on the road to recovery. The Red Caps wish him and his family all the very best.

02.01.2022 While we’re acknowledging achievements from this weekend we need to recognise a young bloke who played his first game of the season in the 4ths as a ‘fill in’. Tony Davis took a lazy 5/22 off his 8 overs including 2 c&b. Probably won’t be his last game for the year! Cam Jenkins also chalked up 53* as The Red Caps chased down North Ballarat’s 135 with only 1 wicket down.

02.01.2022 Amazing generosity from Tristan Tj Menhennet and one of The Red Caps sponsors- Mentay Turf Gear today. Well done guys!

01.01.2022 The BCA’s COVID-Safe Match Day Guidelines that we all need to follow once playing resumes. Seniors start this coming weekend and juniors in a couple of weeks, so please familiarise yourselves with the requirements.

01.01.2022 We’ve just received the following information from the BCA about the format of games post Xmas. We believe this format provides an equitable fixture for all grades and while some people may have preferred 2-Day cricket, this season has been anything but normal. We fully support this decision by the BCA and ask that all our supporters and players do likewise. - Return date of Saturday, January 16 for ALL senior grades.... - Continuation of 1 Day matches for ALL senior grades. - Coloured uniforms and WHITE balls for 1st & 2nd XI matches. - Requirement for an additional round of matches for the 1st XI competition to have 18 rounds and a second full rotation of fixtures (Sunday, Feb 21). - Final 6 system for ALL senior grades following the current structure we use for 1 Day competitions (currently 5th XI structure).
