24.01.2022 Whale song for World Ocean Day. Oceans connect us all. Go find one and jump in today!

24.01.2022 Time to discover the far reaches of the Great Barrier Reef?

23.01.2022 Sunshine underwater. Daisy Coral at night with yellow polyps expanded to trap passing plankton has to make you smile.

23.01.2022 World Reef Day Today of all days, put down the iPhone and get out into nature. Everything is connected in the marvellous web of life.

22.01.2022 YAY! Its the weekend on the Reef. So says a tiny Squat Lobster on a Feather Star!

22.01.2022 At Low Isles great to see the young Acropora coral colonies continue to grow and take over the vacant real estate left by the effects of the 2017 coral bleaching and the early 2018 freshwater flood event. Much of this was covered in soft corals previously so will be interesting to see how the community changes in the coming years. Its like watching a newly planted garden and seeing the change from tiny plants to more robust, and quite beautiful little arrangements!

21.01.2022 Fit to burst! A great success for coral spawning last night out of Cairns. Great organisation by Tusa 6 and the team! The reef is so vast, complex and diverse it has multiple strategies to survive and even thrive as shown tonight. A marvellous collaboration across science, reef management, tourism and conservation is doing all we can to make sure the Reef has the best local care and management. Well done to Citizens of the GBR, Sunlover Cruises, Reef Magic and the various universities and others involved. The Reef continues to inspire and surprise, every time I put my head underwater. If you don’t believe me, come see it for yourself.

20.01.2022 Scorpionfish well camouflaged down amongst the coral. Beware any small fish that comes within reach of the giant mouth that will devour them in a single gulp!

20.01.2022 Perfect for a dawn paddle over the reef.

19.01.2022 Allesandra knows this reef the way you know your kitchen. She’s watched remarkable recovery from cyclones and coral bleaching and helps monitor reef health. One of the 26 Master Reef Guides in our GBR. Whales, turtles, giant clams, Nemo all on the idyllic Frankland Islands on the Great Barrier Reef.

18.01.2022 Out exploring our Great Barrier Reef off Port Douglas! Never fails to surprise and inspire Thanks @mv.monsoon and @dive_addiction

16.01.2022 Sharing knowledge about the reef is the best way to help the world understand its complex beauty and the global challenges we all face. These Master Reef Guides are passionate and knowledgeable stewards for the sites they work on daily with reef operators. I was greatly impressed with the coral growth on Fitzroy Island - a remarkable diversity of species, good coral cover and range of fish.

16.01.2022 Book on Uber for a scUber!

15.01.2022 Latest update on the Great Barrier Reef from the Chief Scientist from GBRMPA. Water temperature, whale season and more.

15.01.2022 The two greatest threats to natural environments around the world are climate change and loss of biodiversity. Here in Far North Queensland, we live in David Attenborough’s favourite place in the world where two World Heritage areas meet - the Great Barrier Reef and the world’s oldest rainforest. The Great Barrier Reef is the best managed reef in the world, is extensively monitored and is supported with outstanding research. And, we share it with the world through the most re...gulated, safe and accessible tourism operations anywhere. It is the #1 driver of visitation to Australia. The institutional and community ecosystem that has evolved to support these two natural assets has become a leading light for reefs - and rainforests - around the world. The Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA), Wet Tropics Management Authority(WTMA), research agencies, tourism and community groups are all working together to ensure the best possible local resilience to the global threats that challenge all nature. We look after it with passion, professionalism and integrity and unlike many tropical environments, we can resource this effort because we are a wealthy, stable democracy. This collective effort is something for us to be proud of and enables us to say with confidence - if you are going to see any reef in the world, or rainforest, come see ours.

14.01.2022 Research just published looking at cores of Boulder Coral (Porites) since 1815 seems to indicate that these slow growing massive corals adapt quite quickly to heat stress. Regardless, a coral reef’s resilience is in part built through species diversity so we need to create a local and global environment that allows all the coral groups to flourish. https://royalsocietypublishing.org//full/10/rspb.2019.0235

11.01.2022 A great partnership between the tourism industry as stewards and trained observers of their sites, and GBRMPA - improving our understanding of the reef and how it changes in space and time.

11.01.2022 We live in David Attenborough’s favourite place - now you can explore the reef in a similar sub that he used! The worlds first ride share submarine coming to Ca...irns & the GBR 9June! Book now on SCUBER! $3000 a couple from Cairns via Uber & helicopter to Agincourt Reef for an hour’s exploration See more

08.01.2022 Talking about the Reef together - scientists, reef managers and conservationists, tourism and community.

06.01.2022 Corals at beautiful Fitzroy Island, just off Cairns a few weeks ago. How lucky are we to have this right on our doorstep!

05.01.2022 Anticipation of what’s underneath waiting to be discovered ... Thanks #monsoonreefcharters #exploretnq #seeaustralia #diveaddiction

05.01.2022 Dr Glen Burns, Master Reef Guide, talking about the northern reefs - Cairns and Port Douglas. You’ve seen the headlines. Now come and see the real thing!

05.01.2022 Great to have a conversation about the complexity of the reef and the role we all play in its future.

05.01.2022 Love and water!

03.01.2022 Respect for ocean and to one of the ocean’s greatest photographers. Ray Collins. Taking our feeling for water to a dimension beyond comprehension.

02.01.2022 So what’s the truth about coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef? The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is the voice to listen to. New video and myth busting facts just released http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/th/reef-health/coral-bleaching-101 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcWlVN02kDQ

02.01.2022 The best (and most fun) way to see the Great Barrier Reef is with a Master Reef Guide!

02.01.2022 A fantastic initiative - stewardship, monitoring and filling knowledge gaps in the constantly changing mosaic that is our GBR. Partnerships across science, reef management and tourism for a positive collective impact.
