13.01.2022 The Visitor Centre Resource and History Tour has recommenced with our first tour kicking off this coming Monday 14th May - spots are still available! Tours run ...every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30am to 1:30pm from the Roebourne Visitor Centre. Jump on board to get a behind the scenes look at the iron ore ship loading operations at Cape Lambert and learn the history of Roebourne, Wickham and Cossack. Weve attached some happy snaps of Visitor Centre staff on tour earlier this week. Tour bookings can be made at either Karratha or Roebourne Visitor Centres - refer to the attached flyer for further information.

13.01.2022 The Dampier Salt Monument Look-Out has been given a face lift. Modifications included replacing the information boards along the top of the lookout as well as a...dding some directional signage to assist with parking. The new signs were designed to assist visitors and the community to learn about the salt process as well as provide information about the site. Facilities include a picnic table, but no toilets. To access the look out, take the Mine Site turn off along Dampier Hwy. Attached is a document containing Dampier Salts Site Facts.

10.01.2022 Have you been wondering what all the beautiful birds are that have arrived in masses? They are here visiting from India. They have made this amazing journey to ...Breed. The oriental pratincole (Glareola maldivarum), also known as the grasshopper-bird or swallow-plover, is a wader in the pratincole family, Glareolidae. These birds have short legs, long pointed wings and long forked tails. They have short bills, which is an adaptation to aerial feeding. The back and head are brown, and the wings are brown with black flight feathers. The belly is white. The underwings are chestnut. Very good views are needed to distinguish this species from other pratincoles, such as the very similar collared pratincole, which also has a chestnut underwing, and black-winged pratincole which shares the black upperwing flight feathers and lack of a white trailing edge to the wing. These features are not always readily seen in the field, especially as the chestnut underwing appears black unless excellent views are obtained. An unusual feature of all pratincoles is that although classed as waders they typically hunt their insect prey on the wing like swallows, although they can also feed on the ground. The oriental praticole is a bird of open country, and they are often seen near water in the evening, hawking for insects.
