25.01.2022 A long wait to return home finally came to an end on Tuesday for ROMAC patient, 12-year-old Germaine when she boarded a plane bound for the Solomon Islands. Germaine underwent successful heart surgery at Sydney’s Westmead Children’s Hospital in March but was forced to remain in Australia because of border closures due to COVID-19. ROMAC Director of Alumni and Patient Evaluation, PDG Bob Richards, was thrilled to be able to farewell a happy and healthy young woman after her extended stay in Australia. ROMAC provides medical treatment for children from developing countries in the form of lifesaving and dignity restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country. 20.01.2022 Nurses in the Children’s Ward at Ballarat Health Services proudly wore their new scrub caps presented to them by ROMAC Southern Region Chair, Jill Oliver (pictured at the left rear). A project supported by the Rotary Club of Sunshine (District 9790), the caps, which have been created by some very talented and dedicated women in the community, have been distributed to all major hospitals throughout Victoria - with very favourable reviews! Sunshine Rotary provided Jill with s...ome caps to donate to Ballarat Health Services on behalf of ROMAC and the Club. 19.01.2022 Congratulations to ROMAC Chair, Harold Sharp for his OAM announced today in the Queen's Birthday honours for "Service to the Community and Charity Initiatives". A well deserved recognition.

19.01.2022 Without ongoing financial support from Rotarians and friends in Australia and New Zealand, ROMAC would not be able to help children from our neighbouring islands needing life-saving medical treatment. It was very pleasurable to be able to recognise one of our longstanding supporters last week. Dan Holzapfel has been a significant donor to ROMAC for many years and he was presented with a plaque commemorating his commitment to ROMAC by his good friend and past Northern Region... Chair, PDG Margaret Hayes, watched on by ROMAC Operations Director, Judy Holland, and Current Governor of District 9630, Ros Kelly (pictured at right). 13.01.2022 It is fast approaching 12 months since one-year-old ROMAC patient, Vincent, arrived in Canberra last July for urgent surgery to correct a blockage between his oesophagus and his stomach. He is now recovering slowly and steadily, and it is hoped that he will be able to return home to the Solomon Islands as soon as travel restrictions due to Covid-19 are lifted. 06.01.2022 Gorgeous ROMAC patient, Vincent, is approaching his first birthday (3rd May) and like most 1 year olds, is very adept at crawling and will soon be walking. He has two bottom teeth and four top ones, and according to his host mum, Sandra Goldstraw, is becoming quite mischievous! Vincent’s progress to full recovery following two surgeries and over 15 day procedures for oesophageal dilations at Canberra’s Centennial Hospital for Women and Children is slow and it is still unsur...e when he will be well enough to return home to the Solomon Islands. Vincent and his mother Cosinta are staying with District 9710 ROMAC Chair, Sandra Goldstraw and her husband Brian, who with the assistance from District team members have looked after Vincent and Cosinta since their arrival in Australia last July.
