19.01.2022 Despite the ongoing public health restrictions which prevent the RMP from rehearsing and performing in person, we are pleased to announce that in recent weeks the RMP has been the recipient of a special Covid-19 Arts Grant from the City of Melbourne. RMP is also deeply appreciative to our wonderful sponsors at the Eric Ormond Baker Charitable Fund who have extended their significant financial support for another year as the RMP’s Principal Sponsor. Following a successful cal...l out for donations via social media, the RMP has also received a significant donation from the PayPal Giving Fund. We also wish to acknowledge the generous contributions made by a host of RMP supporters who have donated during the last few months and helped sustain the organisation during this difficult period. Despite the most challenging year in the RMP’s 167 year history, this support will help ensure the RMP will be able to continue making fine music again as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we look forward to releasing a series of CDs and DVDs of past RMP performances from Hamer Hall, Melbourne Town Hall, Deakin Edge and St Paul’s Cathedral which will be available for purchase shortly. Hang in there Melbourne! We look forward to performing for you again as soon as we are able.

12.01.2022 Despite being prevented from performing for much of this year due to the global pandemic, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic is both excited and proud that its world-record, unbroken sequence of annual performances of Handel’s Messiah (going back to Christmas Eve in 1853) will continue in 2020. Last week, members of the RMP Choir and Orchestra filmed a very special socially distanced version of Handel’s immortal oratorio behind closed doors and without a live audience, in the... magnificent setting of historic All Saints Church. This special performance will be streamed online for public viewing on December 24, 25 and 26. Joining the RMP choir and chamber orchestra are an outstanding cast of soloists: (Amelia Jones, Sally-Anne Russell, Christopher Watson and Andrew O’Connor), supported by continuo players Stefan Cassomenos (harpsichord), Calvin Bowman (chamber organ), Daniel Smith (‘cello), under the direction of RMP Chief Conductor Andrew Wailes. Celebrate Christmas in style this year from the comfort of your own home, and also be a part of a great Melbourne musical tradition, as the RMP presents its 241st subscription performance of Handel’s immortal oratorio 'Messiah'. Tickets to view Messiah will be available from December 16 via the RMP Website: www.rmp.org.au.
