25.01.2022 Yippee!!! Our gorgeous Scruffy has been adopted!! We received loads of interest this morning and found his perfect home

25.01.2022 RSPCA NSW welcomes today’s announcement of the push for tougher penalties for animal cruelty offences in New South Wales. NSW Minister for Agriculture Adam Mar...shall said he will introduce into State Parliament notice for legislation in what would be the harshest penalties for animal cruelty in Australia. The new set of measures will increase maximum financial penalties and prison time under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, as well as introduce new powers to ban an individual from ever being allowed to own, care for or breed an animal in New South Wales. RSPCA NSW welcomes these changes as first steps into the review of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and is looking forward to further developments in cruelty legislation in New South Wales. The proposed penalty increases are: For committing an act of cruelty: fine increased from $5,500 and/or 6 months’ imprisonment to $44,000 and/or 12 months’ imprisonment for individuals, and $220,000 for corporations. For committing an act of aggravated cruelty: fine increased from $22,000 to $110,000 and/or 2 years’ imprisonment for individuals, and $550,000 for corporations. For failing to provide proper and sufficient food, drink or shelter: fine increased from $5,500 to $16,500 and/or 6 months’ imprisonment for individuals, and $82,500 for corporations. 12.01.2022 As the bushfire crisis unfolds, the days are busy and long for everyone involved. For our Hunter Team, yesterday began with a 6 a.m. start in Goulburn before tr...avelling to Batemans Bay Evacuation Centre. There, they met with representatives from Australia Aid, Fire and Rescue and the Military Police for a quick update, then conducted health checks on a variety of animals. Afterwards, the team got an urgent call for assistance from Moruya Evacuation Centre, so they packed up and headed south. They spent the rest of the afternoon administering health checks, nail clips and microchips, as well as picking up five nine-week-old puppies to be transported back to our Sydney Shelter. Thanks to a local boarding kennel, those five pups had somewhere to stay overnight too! In fact, as we continue our work in these fire-affected regions, weve noticed a pattern of of generosity, teamwork and can-do attitude, with people and businesses pitching in whenever and wherever they can. Its so heartwarming to see, and as the weeks progress, well continue to do our fair share to help the animals, pet owners and people who need us. Want to know what were doing or how you can help? Check out our blog here: https://www.rspcansw.org.au//news-inspect/bushfire-relief/

This new process will be enforced at all shelters and branches and at our Tuggerah Care Centre. Adoptions will continue at Petbarn, as per Petbarns policies. Despite these significant changes, we want to ensure you that our standards for rehoming will remain the same finding the perfect forever home for our animals has been, and always will be, our top priority.
