01.12.2020 by Ray Samuel I have been following the progress of the old Royal Oak at North Parramatta. This building has now been demolished and a new one has been built across the road. Do you have an opening date for the new hotel as it is still empty.

25.01.2022 UPDATE - DEMOLITION ROYAL OAK HOTEL Transport for NSW is required to prepare a Heritage Archival Recording and Salvage Report that outlines the salvage to be un...dertaken from the Royal Oak Hotel & other heritage items and material along the route such as sandstone kerbing and the like, which is to be removed. City of Parramatta Council officers have examined the Critical State Significant Infrastrucure (CSSI) approval for the Parramatta Light Rail. However, there appears to be NO requirement to preserve ALL heritage material, but to introduce a salvage process of recording and reusing the best material, interpret or display other material and recycle the remaining material. Apparently a draft report is being prepared that should list a schedule of materials from the Royal Oak Hotel which are capable of being salvaged. This draft report is not yet available but Council has requested it. We are watching. The NSW Government has refused to swerve the tram line to save the Royal Oak Hotel. At the very least they must record, salvage and store the heritage materials for sympathetic reuse or display. The demolition is set down for Monday 4 May. I will keep you informed with any updates over the next few days. Geoff Lee - MP, Seat of Parramatta Parramatta Eels Parramatta Chamber of Commerce

15.01.2022 Punters have revealed education and heritage issues are among the most important issues to them when we applied a Parramatta pub test this week Ironically held at a heritage pub being demolished for the light rail no less. #savetheroyaloak #changetheroute

13.01.2022 Mr Powyer’s daughter Alicia Powyer said her dad adored Parramatta and was dedicated to educating others about heritage beyond The Rocks. He was so passionate and just loved Parramatta He was just so proud of the history of Parramatta and its beautiful history and said it really mattered to how Sydney came about, and that it was not only in The Rocks, and there was so much more in the western suburbs.

12.01.2022 The Berejiklian Government is hell bent on demolishing significant heritage buildings in Parramatta. I moved a motion in Parliament opposing their destruction. North Parramatta Residents Action Group - NPRAG National Trust Australia (NSW) Parramatta Advertiser

09.01.2022 Thank you to everyone that crammed into the pub today on such a hot day. For those that didn’t hear there has been a last minute stay of execution for 30 days. Still time to keep banging the drum bombard the local member for Parramatta or your local politician as this is all of Australia’s history. ... Here’s a little video of just a small selection of all hundreds of Instagram posts over the years of us all enjoying ourselves at The Royal Oak. https://www.magisto.com/video/MQEQY0kGAT9qBBVpYw

09.01.2022 Tomorrow the 200 year old Royal Oak Hotel will start being demolished by the Parramatta Light Rail team. North Parramatta Residents Action Group - NPRAG spoke with nine news yesterday about how furious the community is with the continued loss of Parramatta’s heritage. The light rail route is also cutting through Fleet Street Heritage Precinct which will jeopardize the long campaign for world heritage listing of the Parramatta Female Factory. None of this would be necess...ary if the retention of heritage was foremost in the design. There are solutions but they are ignored. What heritage will be left for the next generation?

08.01.2022 Has anyone invited Geoff Lee - MP, Seat of Parramatta to last drinks before his government bulldoze our watering hole ?

08.01.2022 While we were sleeping....the destruction of #history. Our Director, Conservation, Graham Quint writes to The Sydney Morning Herald on the demolition of the Roy...al Oak at #Parramatta and the importance of #heritage to our communities. 'We keep tearing down buildings for new infrastructure with no empathy for what these places mean for the community. The people of Parramatta and not just within that CBD's precinct, but the surrounding suburbs that gravitate to "Parra" from Guildford, Granville, the Hills and Eastwood fear their city is losing its heart and soul. Local heritage matters because it is the fabric that weaves together a community.' Read the full letter here: https://bit.ly/2Xogdmd

07.01.2022 We need you this morning at 1030am at the royal oak. We are filming with nine news and need you there.

04.01.2022 Please come along tomorrow night Brian spent a lot of hours fighting to stop council approving over development of our treasured heritage areas.

01.01.2022 What is the Parramatta Light Rail actually good for.... apart from value capture for developers. 3+ years of killing our local business Destruction of indigenous and colonial heritage grounds Endangering mental health patients lives ... Sporting teams losing grounds thousands of mature tree canopies lost Thank you to Jodi McKay MP for speaking out about our concerns that continue to be ignored. There is zero detailed drawing on any sensitive areas of the route we are being treated like second class citizens in western Sydney. NOW is the time to stop this ridiculous project going ahead any further.
