16.01.2022 Scots Vision Video #5: Team Leader Craig Tucker shares why the city is where he wants to serve. Find out more on how we aim to love our beautiful city: http://scotschurchsydney.org/vision/ Transcript:... How did you become a Christian? I was born and bred in Sydney. I grew up in this city enjoying life but never really thinking about where God fitted into the picture. It was only when I went to university when I met Christians there and began to talk to them. I realised I was in trouble with God. Id been taking all the good things that God was giving me in life but never stopping to think about the amazing Creator who had given me all these things. But the big surprise was getting things right with God it wasnt just about avoiding a problem, avoiding being in trouble, but knowing God made life deeper, richer, full of great purpose. The biggest surprise of all was to realise God loved me too much to leave me as I was. He wanted to transform me. He wanted to change me. He wanted to fix things on the inside, that in life, in relationships, it would be richer, deeper, even more full of purpose. Why did you join Scots? Sydney, the city I grew up in, is changing. In the 20th century, we sprawled out into the suburbs. In the 21st century, an exciting thing is happening, where people are moving back to the centre of the city to enjoy the vibrancy and the beauty of city life. Not just to work here, but to enjoy life here. But the tragedy is so many of them, just like me, dont know the good Creator who has given them all these things. Thats why I joined Scots. I long to be part of a church that wants to reach the people of the city, that they might find life deeper, richer, more full of purpose, in knowing the Creator who gives all good things.

14.01.2022 Scots Vision Video #4: David Brown shares his experience on moving to a church in the city. Find out more on how we aim to love our beautiful city: http://scotschurchsydney.org/vision/ Transcript:... How did you become a Christian? Well the simplistic answer but the most important answer to that question is its Gods grace. Its really nothing that I have done. Its really the fact that God loved me, God chose me, God opened my heart, God opened my eyes, and it was in Him doing that that I became a Christian. Now there are certainly times when I think hard about how I am not living up to Gods standards. There are times when I feel inadequate in that context, but then I am so reminded of 2 Corinthians 5:17 that I am a new creation in Christ. The old has passed, the new has come. And so, with that I think how I have become a Christian has been in the way I have responded to Gods love for me. Its the way I have been prepared to listen to what He has to say to open up my heart to His leading and His guiding. And its been in the way in which I have acknowledged Im a sinner, that I need to sit under His perfect plan and purpose for my life and to keep coming to the foot of the cross as I renew that relationship and that love for Him. Why did you join Scots? Well previously, Jenny (my wife) and I were part of a suburban church family and we were enjoying it there. But I think we were actually becoming a little bit comfortable in that context and we were both looking for a way in which we might be able to go up a gear in service. I work in the city and have done for most of my career, and so when we heard that there was the start-up of Scots and we started to do a little bit more homework on that it just really appealed to us when we heard about the in the city, for the city, the multi-cultural, multi-generational. And so, we had conversations with Craig [the team leader] and the more we did that, the more excited that we became about this wonderful, wonderful opportunity that we had. So its definitely taken us out of our comfort zone; its really pushing us to be able to serve more but were excited to be able to do that, and in doing that, bring God the glory and the honour.

13.01.2022 What does it mean to be in the city for the city? Our elders and staff share how they see Scots and our vision. Heres what Joe Miao has to say. Transcript: How did you become a Christian?... When I first came to Australia, my parents had some friends who brought us to church. Thats, I think, when I first got to learn more about Christianity and Jesus. As I was growing up, I tried to be a really good kid in Sunday School, tried to be a good son to my parents, but I think that all came crashing down towards the end of high school, when I really started thinking back and reflecting on why thats why am I doing all of this? Whats the point of it? I think thats where I realised it was for a lot of selfish reasons, really just to make myself look good and because I thought maybe thats what would get me into heaven. I think thats where Jesus comes in and from my understanding now, of what Hes done for me, the freedom that He gives me, the grace that Hes given me, that lets me continue to live a good life, but knowing that I do these things not to earn my place in heaven, but because Hes already loved me and I want to show that to others. Why did you join Scots? To me Scots is all about the city and Ive been in and around the city for all my life. Ive been studying around here, and Ive worked here; from the night markets to a university, to now a big corporate office. Through these experiences, Ive had a chance to meet with all sorts of different people and engage with people cross-culturally, cross-generationally, and across all the other differences that you see in people. The Gospel is something unique here that I feel unites all of us despite our differences, and I think, fulfils a common need in us, whether we know it or not. And to me, its exciting to be a part of Scots because I have a chance to share in that Gospel work in the hustle and bustle of the city that Ive grown up with and become familiar with.

10.01.2022 David Robertson returns this Sunday 3 November on the philosophy of Christ.

10.01.2022 Last week on Philippians. Paul finds joy in knowing God even in the midst of isolation. But also, in the midst of economic plenty and economic want. A word for the time. See you there! (It has never been easier to come to church or invite a friend along.) http://scotschurchsydney.org/

10.01.2022 Scots Vision Video #2: Pastoral Assistant Jess Sheely shares what being in the city for the city means to her. Transcript: How did you become a Christian?... Reading the Bible as a teenager changed my life. See, I thought I could get through life keeping my head down, trying to be a good kid. But then, I met the real Jesus as I read the Bible and I realized I would never measure up. But Jesus was also unlike anyone I had ever met before. He was powerful, compassionate, generous. He made demands on my life, but was also gentle and knew what was best for people, and Christianity was robust enough that I could come and ask all my questions about life, meaning, purpose; and it had sufficient and satisfying answers. Trusting Jesus with my life and living for Him is the best decision I will ever make. Why did you join Scots? As a rural girl, I joined Scots to see what does it look like to share the saving news of Jesus in a city context? And Ive stayed because I love how Jesus death and resurrection is what unites our diverse church family. I love looking around our church gatherings and seeing how Jesus equips people of all backgrounds, ages and stages to love and care for one another. And Im so thankful that Scots is a place where anyone can come and investigate Jesus for themselves. Find out more on how we aim to love our beautiful city: http://scotschurchsydney.org/vision/

02.01.2022 Hub Groups Announcement Starting on Wednesday 18th March, Scots Church Sydney Hub Groups will meet online. Group leaders will be in touch with group members about details. While this is not what we planned, we know it is exactly what our good and sovereign God has planned for us. It could be that a time of uncertainty and potential loneliness, is a God-given opportunity for his church to grow in love and unity, deepening our community together and our devotion to Jesus. ... Can I encourage you to make Hub even more of a priority than you normally would? Your brothers and sisters need your encouragement, your support, your fellowship, just as you do. Craig.

02.01.2022 Thankful to God for the servant-hearted ministry behind the scenes of our tech guys Gus, Aidan and Kyle. It would be easy to produce a pre-recorded show, much harder to run a gathering with faces, interactivity and expression of unity in song, scripture and prayer, while simultaneously welcoming visitors and safeguarding the gathering against malicious intruders. For those who want to think more, this is an insightful article on gathering vs performance in how we do onlin...e church. Keep turning on those webcams and be participators rather than consumers. I dont want church to be a "livestream" or a "broadcast" but a social gathering (which has pushed us towards Zoom and as much as possible, the live delivery of content where we can see each others faces and have multiple contributors) ... If this period disrupts us I want this disruption to be towards our underlying principles, not away from them ... https://st-eutychus.com//disrupting-church-some-principl/
