17.01.2022 2020 5th Annual Port Welshpool Snapper and Gummy Challenge CANCELLED All it is with much regret that the SGGFC Tournament Committee wish to inform all anglers ...of the cancelation of this years event. We have held out as long as we could but the time has come to make a decision that is ethical for sponsors, anglers and the comunity of Port Welshpool. We as an organisation can not in good conscience ask our amazing sponsors to support the event this year with all that has happened and the hardship that all Victorian business has felt. We also feel that those who have supported the event from metro Melbourne over the past years would be disadvantaged due to current restrictions. But most of all in the interests of public safety and the continued success of the event we feel that looking forward to the 2021 5th Annual Port Welshpool Snapper & Gummy Challenge is in the best interests of all involved. Apologies for any inconvenience and I look forward to seeing you all at next years event Regards Joel Bacon SGGFC Committee See more

14.01.2022 Another stroll down memory lane. South Gippsland Game Fishing Club 4th All Victorian Gamefish Tournament 1987.

14.01.2022 GAME TIME - With the current restrictions on fishing and the SGGFCs decision to postpone all fishing events in line with GFAA & GFAV recommendations we thought wed run a friendly Comp/Game on our page each day for the next month or two. No prize just a bit of fun to get the brain ticking and keep people thinking about fishing. THE GAME : we will go through alphabetical order with a guess the fish name. I will give at least one clue and the letter for the day. Where a fish ...can not be found starting with the next letter alphabetically I will improvise and give detail in the clue. All fish used will be listed as a species able to be found in Australian Waters. Just post your answers and Ill reveal the answer each evening as I post the next days question/clue. 12.01.2022 Good day on the water yesterday 50km off the West Australian coast out of Carnarvon. Tagging 1 x Sailfish and 1 x Tuna , good feed of bottom species to fill the freezer also. Very fortunate to be over here at the moment. It’s great to see so many club members hitting the water on the snapper, gummy shark and whiting back home in VIC

12.01.2022 2020 PORT WELSHPOOL SNAPPER & GUMMY CHALLENGE CANCELED!! Thank you for your understanding we hope to see you back next year for a fun and safe event. The SGGFC deemed it necessary to cancel the event as the Covid restrictions are changing on a weekly basis. The event is run by volunteers, and involves other volunteer organisations, council and local business who are constantly modifying procedures to comply. It is not in the community interest to attract the masses to Port Welshpool and perhaps create a new hotspot. We are hoping our February game tournament will be OK. The club has been running a members only contactless competition for several months now. So have a look at our website join the club and enter the comps as they are free with great monthly prizes. 09.01.2022 This past two weeks has seen some great action with schools of Southern Bluefin Tuna active out from Port Welshpool. SGGFC Members have been taking full advantage of the local SBT and headed out to get among the action. Finding the fish did not just happen it has been a team effort with members communicating among one another to ensure everyone had the best chance of a good day out. 09.01.2022 To all members, just been talking to Tony Spiteri ( Two up charters ) and he has made his way along the the Princess Highway heading to Eden. Road conditions are good, the road into Mallacoota is also open but with some speed restrictions in place. Im away for a few weeks with work but it would be nice if we could get a few boats together for a few days and support some of the communities devastated by the recent fires. If you plan to travel it would be advisable just to check road conditions before heading off.

04.01.2022 In what I believe to be a first for the club, congratulations to Adrian Gruendler on tagging and releasing a Porbeagle Shark off Lakes Entrance. These rare sharks frequent the deeper waters and are more of a bycatch than a targeted species.
