25.01.2022 A big pink thanks to Project REM for their wonderful donation of cottons period products. This donation will assist so many people dealing with period poverty. Providing period products for those in need take one worry away from them and allows them to manage their period with the dignity they deserve. www.sharethedignity.org.au

25.01.2022 Our founder has become a grandmother for the first time! While she’s elated and absolutely in love with her special new grandson, it reminded her how bloody expensive becoming a new mum is. From nappies, breast pads, baby clothes, baby bottles to toys just to name a few of the necessary items. Becoming a new mum is such a special time in someone’s life but there’s also a lot of stress, from birthing plans, learning the tips and tricks of being a mum, breast feeding and everyt...hing in between. Those living in poverty have all this stress as well as the financial burden and worry for their new child. Imagine being pregnant in a domestic violence refuge with nothing but the clothes on your back. It’s unimaginable for most of us. These are the women your generous donations go to. By donating a mum and bub bag, you’re giving a new mum and her baby the best start possible. There's just ONE DAY LEFT to donate to #ItsInTheBag, make sure you drop off your bag tomorrow before Bunnings stores close so we can ensure your special gift reaches a woman or girl in need before Christmas What luxury items do you think every new mum and bub need?

22.01.2022 One bag has the power to make a difference to one woman! That’s the beauty of #itsinthebag, it’s that your kindness directly impacts another. This week we received a message that saddened me as the Founder of this beautiful charity. ... A lady shared that she always made up one bag, but was not going to do it anymore because she saw all the posts about people making up many. I just want to say that donating one bag is wonderful and so appreciated. I do just one bag each year, sure I meticulously love on everything that goes in, like you all do, but it is one bag I heard just this week with a charity how a 16 year old girl received a #teenbag; her only gift on Christmas Day in crisis accomodation after fleeing a home she was not safe in. In this teen bag was a necklace and a bottle of perfume that in her words were the first time she had ever owned jewellery or had her own perfume. The power of that one bag cannot be measured. How do you measure the smile you put on that young girls face that day? How do you measure that feeling of hope that this young girl feels when she twirls her necklace in her fingers and feels like people care and there is hope in this world. How do you measure that? I don’t think you can. We at Share the Dignity and the charities we work with appreciate your kindness; please don’t ever forget that. In summary if you donate one bag or 100 we appreciate it Much love and respect Rochelle xoxo www.sharethedignity.org.au

21.01.2022 Not all period products are created equal! Most people seem to have a preference in what they use to manage their period from pads vs tampons even down to their preferred brand. That's why when we deliver to charities across the country, we deliver them a range of items, brands and sizes to suit the diversity of the people they support. We would love for you to keep that in mind when you donate to Share the Dignity in March during our #DignityDrive... What is your period product preference, tell us in the comments! See more

17.01.2022 Answer the maths quiz to reveal the difference between the number of It's in the Bag charity requests last year and the number of actual bags collected. We are so proud to be able to say that we gift a substancial amount of bags each year at Christmas. But it is also a bittersweet feeling knowing that we cant donate them all. This year we are hoping to make it as easy as possible for people. If you don't have the time to pack a bag you can sponsor one through out website and we will pack and send this on your behalf. https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/sponsor-a-bag

15.01.2022 So what happens if my bag doesn't have ALL of the essential items inside? We encourage all donations to have: Shampoo & Conditioner Toothbrush & Toothpaste ... Bodywash or Soap Roll-on Deodorant Sealed packets or pads or tampons If your bag doesn't include these items, that's okay! We'd still love for you to donate it. Often some bags have extra soap or shampoo and we can transfer it to a bag without. It's almost like a game of Tetris for our volunteers, making sure each bag as the essentials and some special luxuries. We are SO appreciative of your donations and understand everyone is in different financial and time positions so appreciate that not everyone can fill an entire bag. Want to get involved but worried you won't have the time? This year we have made it super easy by launching a sponsor a bag option. A bag will be packed on your behalf, so you don’t have to miss out. Visit our website www.sharethedignity.org.au to donate a bag. Donations to Share the Dignity ‘It’s in the Bag Campaign’ will be welcome at Bunnings stores from Nov 20 to Nov 29, subject to government safety guidelines. Share the Dignity provides a number of convenient options to donate which can be found at https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/event/its-in-the-bag)

11.01.2022 The #ItsInTheBag charity drop offs have begun! Our wonderful Shero Michelle, had the opportunity to visit the Women's Cottage in Victoria who said the garden felt so peaceful and welcoming. The Women’s Cottage is a feminist organisation that promotes strength based and trauma informed approaches while working within a feminist framework. The Women’s Cottage is a place where all women, regardless of age, class, race, religion, or sexual preference, are valued and treated a...s equal. It is a place for women to nurture themselves, a place of safety, and a place to learn and grow. It is not a place for one type of woman, but for all women. What a special organisation! Your generous #itsinthebag donation has gone to a woman as she navigates her way through this difficult time while being supported by the amazing team at the Women's cottage. Tomorrow is the last day to donate your #ItsInTheBag donation at your local Bunnings store!! As we run on the power of volunteers, this is the last day we can collect bags https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/ See more

09.01.2022 If your birthday is coming up and you're not sure what to put on the wish list, we have the perfect solution! Rather than receiving presents that won't get used and go to waste, why not have that money go towards supporting women who need it most. As a Birthday Bloody Legend, you can swap gifts for donations to ensure that those experiencing period poverty are able to access pads and tampons, to give them one less thing to worry about. ... 09.01.2022 For most of us, Christmas is all about celebrating the 3 F’s: Family, Food & Fun. We surround ourselves with loved ones and fill our bellies with delicious Christmas food, all the while enjoying the magic associated with the day. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many people, and for those women who call a Domestic Violence Refuge home, their Christmas can feel completely devoid of love or hope. This was the case for Christina and her 12-year-old daughter, who arrive...d at a Domestic Violence Refuge only 2 days before Christmas. They arrived with nothing, having to leave behind loved ones for their own safety, and at the time, couldn’t have felt further away from the festive spirit. It was during this incredibly difficult time for Christina and her daughter that they received an #itsinthebag filled with essentials and even some treats! Christina loved the book included in the handbag while her daughter adored the hairbrush and hair ties. These basic items brought them so much joy and a sprinkling of that Christmas magic. As Christina put it, It was such as tough time. I was so scared for myself, but sad I couldn’t provide a safe home for my daughter. It could have easily been a miserable holiday season for her and her daughter, yet the generosity of our donors allowed a ray of hope to shine on them and lift some of the burden from their shoulders. You can help women like Christina this November from the 20th to 29th by participating in It’s in the Bag. By donating bags filled with health and sanitary items to your local Bunnings, you will be helping bring the Christmas spirit to a woman in need. Bags can be filled with pads & tampons, toothbrush & toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner, soap & body wash, and roll-on deodorant. Likewise, feel free to include any special items like the book and hairbrush that were so loved by Christina and her daughter. Any unique touch will go a long way towards helping the recipients feel loved and cared for, even if their situation brings them pain. For more information, visit the It’s in the Bag page at https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/event/its-in-the-bag. See more

09.01.2022 A menstrual cup is a type of reusable feminine hygiene product. Made from rubber or silicone, menstrual cups are small, flexible funnel-shaped cups that are inserted into the vagina to catch and collect period fluid #MenstrualCups are a popular sanitary product as they hold more blood than others and depending on your flow, can be worn for up to 12 hours before needing to be emptied, leading many women to use them as an eco-friendly alternative to tampons Menstrual cups ar...e not only more eco-friendly than traditional tampons or pads but are also: - Significantly more affordable. For a reasonably cheap one-off cost, menstrual cups can last anywhere from 6 months to 10 years with proper care. - Safer for your body, as menstrual cups collect blood instead of absorbing it, significantly reducing your risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. *Menstrual cups are also free from the nasties that can be found in other sanitary products such as bleaches, deodorisers and absorbency gels. Embrace the cup, donate a cup, and #ShareTheDignity https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/event/dignity-drive/home
