24.01.2022 Last month, volunteer bushfire brigade members from Oakford, Jarrahdale, Serpentine, Mundijong and Byford completed the Structural Firefighting course at Oakford Fire Station. Well done to all the firefighters involved in this training. Career Fire and Rescue Service firefighters also joined the local group to conduct a gas isolation drill the following day. ... Our Fire Control Notice 2020/21 booklet provides information on bushfire preparedness and the legal requirements for firebreaks. Hard copies will start arriving in mailboxes of all Shire property owners from today, with additional copies available at the Shire’s Administration Building. ... 12.01.2022 Telecommunications tower approved for Oldbury At its December meeting, Council approved a development application from Telstra to install a telecommunications tower and associated infrastructure at Lot 233 Orton Road, Oldbury. The telecommunications tower is part of Telstra’s 4GX and 5G network to serve the Oldbury and Byford localities, as well as addressing identified Telstra coverage issues between Byford and Mundijong. ... Thank you to Andrew Hastie for his support, and to our community who provided feedback last year on this issue, to help our advocacy for improved telecommunications infrastructure across our region. We will continue to work with telecommunication providers and stakeholders to improve landline, mobile and internet coverage across the Shire.

11.01.2022 It was great to see members of the Keysbrook Community Men’s Group come together to install two R U OK signs in a paddock at the entrance to Keysbrook last month. The signs are accompanied by a tree painted blue, which was installed earlier this year by members of the group as part of the Blue Tree Project. Both installations support causes that aim to raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing by helping to spark conversations.... Well done to the Keysbrook Community Men’s Group on this fantastic initiative.

11.01.2022 The Shire adopted its Permissible Verge Treatments Rural Policy and Guidelines earlier this year for properties greater than 2000sqm. The Policy and Guidelines aim to show property owners what is acceptable for their verges to improve safety including bushfire management, access and appearance. 07.01.2022 It was fantastic to see 22 riders from a variety of ages turn out for a mountain biking event in Jarrahdale on Sunday, 20 September organised by the Shire in collaboration with The Munda Biddi Trail Foundation and BikeWise The variable weather did not deter the participants from getting a first-hand experience of riding the world famous Munda Biddi Trail. The event also involved a bike maintenance and awareness skills session from BikeWise which participants will be able to... utilise in the future. 07.01.2022 Shire President Cr Michelle Rich and Councillors joined local residents at the Serpentine-Jarrahdale RSL Remembrance Day Service today to pay their respects to those that have lost their lives in all wars, conflicts and peace operations. More than 100 people attended the service, held at Anzac Memorial Park in Byford, with music provided by the Heritage Choir.

06.01.2022 Please be advised that the Department of Parks and Wildlife are undertaking prescribed burning near Balmoral Road as well as near Nettleton Road in Jarrahdale this week. Motorists should take care, turn on headlights and drive with caution through areas affected by smoke. People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.

01.01.2022 The Shire has completed its review of all submissions received for its 2020 Rates Review Process. Thank you to everyone who made a submission. Following this review, 2392 properties have been identified to have a change to their valuation methodology. Letters were sent to affected property owners from 18 November, 2020, notifying them of the proposal, its likely impact and inviting objections by Thursday, 17 December, 2020.... If you did not receive a letter from the Shire, your property is not being considered for a valuation review in the 2020 Rate Review Process.
