10.05.2022 At the end of the first book (The Veiled Thread), I wanted to know more about Jimmy and his experiences. The Severed Cord provides that, taking us on the same journey as the first book, but from Jimmy’s perspective. I found the novel exposed the difficulties that Jimmy had to face as an Indigenous Australian during the period prior to WW1. The injustice and cruelty to our indigenous community was laid bare, hunted like wild animals, no rights or privileges, abandoned to ext...Continue reading

02.05.2022 Featured New Book Title Searching for Professor Schmidt Author: Anton Mulders 342 pages Thriller ISBN: 978-1-925707-87-8... RRP $24.95 Sid Harta Publishers, Melbourne, Australia About the Book Africa, a continent so vast and wealthy, with such enormous potential, yet subjugated and exploited. Independence came with great expectations, but corruption and nepotism became entrenched, causing a great chasm between the new ruling class and the general population. Bughama was a case in point, with a rogue section of the armed forces eagerly watching for an opportunity to pounce in order to save the country. Friends and former expatriates Anthoine and Shahn embark on a sentimental journey to Bughama where they become involved in the search for Professor Schmidt and his daughter, the exceedingly beautiful Amy, both of whom have disappeared under mysterious but separate circumstances during a time of great uncertainty. A story of betrayal, passion and courage. Author bio Anton Mulders was born in the Netherlands in 1939 and grew up in a family of two generations of building and civil engineering contractors. After finishing his studies, he joined a civil engineering company as an estimator and was actively involved in planning and controlling projects such as housing and industrial projects, road construction, and large drinking water supply pipelines. Anton was offered and accepted a position as Plant Engineer at an African subsidiary of a large, internationally-acclaimed, Dutch concrete construction company. After some twelve years there, he was head-hunted by a German engineering company for whom he successfully carried out a multitude of assignments in Europe, Northeast and West Africa, the Middle East, Jordan and Iraq, Southeast Asia, Indonesia and South Korea, which gave him the opportunity to travel extensively, especially through Africa. The same company appointed him as joint Managing Director of a German-African joint venture company in Nigeria, producing a variety of prefabricated concrete products. While in Africa, Anton learned to fly and obtained his pilots licence. In his spare time, he enjoys flying, horse riding, and scuba diving. Anton is now retired and lives in Perth, Western Australia

19.01.2022 About the Author of "Trauma Free" I was born into a fear-filled environment in 1940 under the umbrella of potential Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. World War II was in full swing and because Australia was so far from the war zone on the other side of the world, life for me, the newborn, we thought would go on as usual when the war ended. But that was not to be. War changed everything! Without warning my life and the lives of our family members were changed forever when my fat...her came home from WWII in 1945. He was discharged with medically diagnosed anxiety and a stress disorder shell shock. Shell shock, years later was renamed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). My PTSD story began in those early years and it was only when thinking about my life when writing this book that I understood just how subtly insidious and destructive to a persons healthy development that life lived with generational and/or personal PTSD could be. 18.01.2022 Featured Book of Poetry Horses for Courses and Other Poems Author: Graham Henderson Poetry and Song Lyrics 114 pages ISBN: 978-1-925707-14-4... RRP: $24.95 Sid Harta Publishers, Australia Graham Henderson was a man of many parts and this volume of his verse and lyrics represents just one. He was first apprenticed as a ladies hairdresser at the elite Georges store in Melbourne, but subsequently changed to earn his papers as a fitter and turner. As a hobby he rescued dogs from the Lost Dogs Home and trained them for stock work in the Newmarket Saleyards and then moved to rural Victoria working on sheep stations. At this time he learnt that the removal of his beard assisted in giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to fragile baby lambs. During his National Service in the Army he became a driving instructor for the 6th Field Ambulance based at Puckapunyal. Along with his wife Eve and their two daughters they moved to Esperance where Ganet was born. Farming and many other occupations provided the experience to write of the life of a rural Australian. In 1998 he was awarded the prize for lyrics by the Australian Song Writers Association for his Lingering Spirit. Enjoy. Carol Fossemalle

18.01.2022 Featured Title Release A Cloudy Path Author: Jenni Greenham Memoir ISBN: 978-1-925707-05-2 RRP $29.95... 616 pages Sid Harta Publishers, Melbourne Australia About the Book That ole Abbo, e got inside me head an screwed up me thinkin. The brief conversation with the transient Fella in the Perth caravan park sets a path to a future gradually unfolding over a decade and changing who Jenni and Pete are forever. That journey challenges their prejudices, their beliefs and their worldview. Who they are now is not who they were twelve years ago. A Cloudy Path follows their journey into the hearts and lives of desert Aborigines, sharing with them the harsh and beautiful Australian outback with its dusty red soil and inhospitable environment. They begin to appreciate the struggles of uniting two vastly different cultures and Jenni soon recognises the mismatch in the expectations of the Aborigines and our education system. As a teacher and eventually a principal, Jenni dedicates her life to trying to empower the children to raise the bar on their options for the future without devaluing their culture. Author bio Jenni Greenham trained and worked in various educational roles in Victoria before resigning to pursue other interests. Many years later she travelled with her husband to Western Australia where she accepted a teaching position with underachieving students in a hard to staff rural school. Her role changed when she took up a position as an ESL Visiting Teacher in isolated desert communities in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands of WA. Over the final seven years Jenni worked as a principal and her enthusiasm and dedication led her to present at workshops on Aboriginal education several times at district seminars and at a National Education Summit. Jenni felt compelled to share her experiences after returning to mainstream Australia and recognising the prejudices of many people who insist on pigeon-holing Indigenous people as lazy and worthless. This memoir is written in the hope that some readers may question their own worldview of an often-maligned people; the Australian Aborigines.

11.01.2022 Featured Book Title Release Never Give Up Son Author: Mario Guerres Memoir ISBN: 978-1-925707-22-9 RRP $29.95... 326 pages Sid Harta Publishers, Melbourne, Australiaq About the Book This is the story of a mother, who even with the loss of her husband to a mental asylum in cruel circumstances and death of her son, never gave up through the downfalls and struggles in her life during the Great Depression and racism against Italians at the time in New South Wales, Australia. It was not the life she wished for her son and she instilled in him the words, Never Give Up, Son. The book was intended as therapy for the author during his own downfalls and struggles in life, which included the loss of his business, homes and nearly everything else; but through it all he remembered his mothers words. This book is dedicated to her memory and struggle and what the author personally overcame in his. This story has something for everyone: theres racism, bigotry and you enter the dark world of societys underbelly. Some things may shock you and some may find it hard to believe, but it is true. It unfolds during the post WWII period and beyond and is about heartache, betrayal and injustice and depicts real life in Australia at that time. You will find inspiration from the story. Review: Wow, what a fantastic ride this book is! A sweeping Australian saga that encompasses poverty, racism, the Griffith Mafia, love affairs, marriage and children, boxing, a transport business, mental illness, all set against a background of a boys love for his mother. His father wrongly incarcerated in a mental hospital, his mother struggling to make ends meet, support from family and friends almost non-existent. Mario struggled with racism and bullying from white Australians, while at the same time coming up against a different sort of pressure from his Italian counterparts. Exactly how he survives all this and goes in to live a happy and successful life is really the gist of this book. A thrilling, emotional, absorbing tale that could easily be a new chapter in the Underbelly series. Denise Johns, Blackheath, NSW All that he went through, his mother was always behind him. After so many changes in his life, he made a name for himself in the transport business and got married. Now he can look back and say, I never gave up, Mum. Mary Violi, Melbourne, Victoria

09.01.2022 Featured Title Release Cornish Tales: ancient and modern Author: Florence Breed 380 pages Full Colour ISBN: 978-1-925707-07-6 History... RRP $29.95 Sid Harta Publishers, Melbourne Australia About the Book Cornwall is cut off from the rest of England by the River Tamar which effectively makes the country an island. Consequently, its geographical isolation meant that Cornish people developed their own language, food and customs and regarded the rest of England as they would regard any other foreign country such as France, or Spain. However, there was something particularly unusual which distinguished Cornwall from all other English counties and that was its unique, immense, subterranean repository copper and tin ores. Unfortunately there was no coal under Cornish soil. For many centuries, even as far back as the time of the great Roman Empire, foreign ships arrived in Cornwall to take away its tin. There is an ancient legend (concerning the Hidden Years of Christs boyhood) which says that Jesus actually visited Cornwall with his uncle who was the wealthy merchant named Joseph of Arimathea. Jews came to Cornwall to trade for the precious metal and that is why smelting-houses near the tin mines were known locally s Jews Houses even up to the 19th century. Author bio Were your ancestors Cornish miners ? Then you may be interested in the following stories which describe life in Old Cornwall before that particular time when thousands of miners and their families were forced to emigrate after many of the mines closed down. Were your ancestors tinners, or copperers? It does not matter which because both types of miners toiled hundreds of feet beneath the earth for meagre wages to make the mine owners rich. My maternal grandfather worked in the Herland Mines (near Camborne) as a boy and then tried his luck as a young man in Salt Lake Valley, America. Later, he toiled in the cobalt mines of Canada. I was familiar with parts of the far-west of Cornwall as a child attending the village school in St. Gwinear and then I went to Truro to boarding school. In 1953, I began my teaching career in a little fishing-village by the name of Padstow, in North Cornwall. There were no boats in the harbour in those days because of the sand-bar. Both my parents strongly spoke the Cornish dialect of their childhood, yet the last time I visited the old familiar places in 2003, I did not hear a genuine Cornish accent anywhere. It seems to me that foreigners have completely conquered Cornwall. They have bought and modernised those humble, miners cottages, thus forcing house-prices up so high that the natives cannot afford to live in their own villages any longer. The Bad Old Days may have gone and housework is easier, but whatever happened to those honest Cornish folks with their hard-working and generous ways?

Many of his writings are about Indonesia. our close neighbour and 'best friend,' a nation he is very familiar with having once held citizens...hip. 'Rockefeller and the Demise of Ibu Pertiwi' is fiction but reflects very accurately the situation in West Papua and the growing momentum for independence. It reveals a fictional but very likely international power-play for control over the vast natural resources in West Papua - oil, gas and minerals. It explores a scenario where Australia is again drawn into military conflict with the Indonesian Motherland, Ibu Pertiwi. An important book, especially for the West Papuan independence movement as it vividly and eloquently brings the West Papuan dilemma to the attention of people who would not normally confront it.

06.01.2022 Bio/Introduction For years I have had a wanderlust which has taken me all over the world, and have been urged so often to write a book, as the stories I related aroused a fascination in others, who wanted to hear ever more about my travels. I have found voyaging most rewarding, with few worries or unforseen expenses, even though I always travelled on a shoe-string with just a full backpack and die-hard self-confidence as my only security. This particular journey began (in Aug...ust 1980) and ended for me in Boston, Massachusetts, and is my account of a major expedition through Latin America in two distinct stages. The first part covers Central America, and after recuperating for a fortnight in Panama City the second part explores the great South American continent from end to end. If you anticipate travelling in Latin America, please be encouraged by this book. The countries present numerous challenges both social and natural. The very innocence of travellers in these corrupt and struggling countries is their own best security when faced with the peculiar demands of the various authorities. Apart from exasperation at the hands of crooked uniformed services, it is impossible to stay healthy for long with mediaeval sanitation and widespread sickness in every country. With common sense we overcame adversity and spent seven unforgettable months exploring remote areas as well as the more famous tourist spots, and took many thousands of photographs. I have been a conservationist and an animal-lover all my life and at different times I have taken care of everything from tropical aquarium fish to Himalayan mountain bears, and Mexican snake-eating eagles to Hamadryad baboons. The whole expedition through Latin America was a wonderful chance for me to investigate scores of exotic species of fauna and flora, quite apart from the indigenous Indian races, Mestizos, Caribs and Creoles, Whites and Negroes, with cultures and traditions steeped in mystery. 04.01.2022 Featured Title Release From Contempt to Dignity: understanding the intricacies of psychoanalysis Author: Dr Sabar Rustomjee ISBN: 978-1-925707-00-7 466 pages RRP $34.95... Subject: psychoanalysis Sid Harta Publishers, Melbourne Australia About the Book Our vulnerabilities in life and the courage to face contempt All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948 Article 1. Following the above can lead towards the development of fundamental principles in all forms of exchanges between individuals, groups, professionals, families, as well as during educational and organisational work. It is the basis of courageously overcoming inhibitions, resistances and anxieties. This restores freedom of thought, speech and human dignity. Acknowledging similarities and differences of race, colour, caste, economy, intellectual and religious beliefs is an important component of everyday life. Every human being is vulnerable without exception. Nelson Mandela, one of the greatest political leaders of our time, describes in his book, Long Walk to Freedom (1995), how at a very early age he played with a group of friends, trying to climb up and down an unruly donkey. Suddenly the donkey bent his head and unseated him into a thornbush. The thorns pricked and scratched his face all over. I had lost face among my friends. I learnt that to humiliate another person, is to make him suffer an unnecessarily cruel fate. Even as a boy, I defeated my opponents without dishonouring them. Loss of face in public is a manifestation of self-contempt. This book has provided examples of those who have been able to overcome obstacles in their lives by valuing truth, honour and compassion, leading to regaining self-dignity which may have been lost in the early years of their lives. Talented poets like John Keats, William Wordsworth and artists including Michelangelo, Edvard Munch, Leonardo da Vinci, as well as numerous literary geniuses of different persuasions. These artists are able to demonstrate contempt either through art, music and/or literature. They are also able to normalise an individual who is already traumatised by contempt. There are many examples given in this book which demonstrates contempt, which can either be seen by all or hidden secretly.

02.01.2022 An Introduction to Bernard Lonergan Second Edition Peter Beer 230 pages 140mms X 216mms... ISBN: 978-1-925707-36-6 RRP $34.95 Sid Harta Publishers, Melbourne Australia About the Book Bernard Lonergan was a mid 20th century Canadian philosopher and theologian. This book aims to help form a basis for inquiry into Lonergan’s achievement in his new approach to the great philosophical questions: what do I do when I know something? (cognitional theory), why is doing that ‘knowing’? (epistemology) and what do I know when I do that? (metaphysics). Lonergan deals with these questions somewhat more deeply in his major works, Insight (1957, 1992) and Method in Theology (1972, 2017). Here he invites one to discover in oneself the dynamic structure of one’s own cognitional and moral being and in doing this, one finds an operative procedure that is not open to radical revision. In fact, Lonergan has unearthed a dynamic, conscious framework for creativity, a method that grounds all investigation that is intelligent and critical. It is a resource that is transcendental in that it is the concrete and dynamic unfolding of human attentiveness, intelligence, reasonableness and responsibility, and this unfolding occurs whenever one uses one’s mind in an appropriate fashion. This method, for investigators too, is new in its finding eight tasks that are distinct and separable stages in the single process from data to results and can be adapted to any subject in which investigations are responding to past history and are to influence future history. About the Author Peter Beer SJ is Director of the Lonergan Centre, Canisius College, Pymble, Sydney, New South Wales. He joined the Jesuit Order, graduated in arts at Melbourne University, was ordained to the priesthood and pursued doctoral studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, graduating in 1972. He was awarded a travelling scholarship for postgraduate research at the Lonergan Center at Regis College, Toronto, in 197475 where he studied Lonergan’s seminal works, Insight and Method in theology. After teaching at the diocesan seminary in Melbourne, in 1976 he was appointed to the Union Theological Institute of the Sydney College of Divinity, where he taught systematic theology and methodology until 1998. He has published a number of articles applying Lonergan’s transcendental method. In 1979, he invited Professor Frederick Crowe, of Regis College, on a lecture tour to the Australian capital cities. After this successful tour, he invited others to join with him in setting up a Lonergan workshop that meets regularly for the presentation of papers and discussion.
