24.01.2022 During COVID three of my incredible students have had amazing leaps and bounds in their art journey. I really want to tell you all about them. I will start here today with: Louise Russell - After only about a year of painting Louise has bravely taken her art journey to the next level and recently moved to a studio space at Fleurieu Art House in McLaren Vale. Louise was experiencing depression at the time she came to me. I know she wouldnt mind me sharing this as I know she ...is keen to share her story with others. Its a beautiful story of finding therapy and happiness through her art practice. From the moment we met I knew wed become more than student/teacher and I can happily say weve become dear friends. I am incredibly inspired by this strong, brave and talented woman and love that she is facing each new challenge head on with determination and overcoming any emotional hurdles. Her vulnerability and freedom to express herself comes though her colourful and vibrant artworks. 21.01.2022 OK.... so its been hard to know what to say over here in FB land but I just want to send you all my love. At this stage I am still running (tiny) workshops and in-person classes. Capped at 6 and if still running next week I will cap at 4 per session. My current students have been incredible and I love you all to bits for your support and sad we cant hug!... ONLINE IS COMING! 17.01.2022 Before each of my in-person art classes we always begin with a short guided meditation. I find giving ourselves even just five minutes to become mindful, let go and some bring peace and calm to our soul is so beneficial. This sense of calm will remain with you much longer than just the meditation time and if you can start your art practice with peace youll feel much calmer throughout.... Art is the most incredible way to relax our mind and soul. The wellbeing benefits through the creation of art are well documented. 15.01.2022 While Im in the middle of getting gear ready for you and your kids (who will be needing some other outlets soon!) I just thought Id share with you this little time lapse video I made from a while ago. Hope you find it inspiring. If youd like to try it here are some details: MATERIALS:... - Acrylic paints - Palette or surface to mix paints on (an old white dinner plate is good) - Low tack masking tape for edges of paper (optional) - Acrylic paper or canvas (or any surface thick enough to accept acrylic paint) - Large round brushes if possible but try whatever you have handy - Water jar and rags (for cleaning brushes) HINTS: - Acrylic paint sticks so make sure you cover surfaces and wear old clothes or an apron. - It is a real slap it down approach to creating these chunky flowers. Each petal is single large brush stroke. - Acrylic paint is generally full coverage, not too much water and you can layer over the top of another colour covering it completely. - If you wish to layer acrylic paints wait for the paint underneath to dry as they will blend otherwise. - If you wish to blend colours you can do it when both colours are wet. - Dont overthink it, just go for it! - HOW TO: 1 - Mask up your paper for a boarder (optional). 2 - Lay down a single colour on the background. You might like to think either cool (blues, greens) or warm (reds, orange, pinks) here and then choose the opposite for the top layer. 3 - Let this layer dry, or dry with a hairdryer. 4 - You may wish to sketch up a layout for your flowers. 5 - Think about the mark you wish to make, really visualise it in your mind then choose a dark colour to make the branches. 6 - Add petals in midtone (midtone is... not too dark and not too light) and light colours layering them up to achieve the desired result. 7 - Using a contrasting colour to the background (maybe warm if youve used cool first) layer up around your flowers making sure some of the initial base colour peeps through for interest, especially around the petals and branches. 8 - You can then tweak and play with your flowers adding branches. Best done when these first layers are dry. 9 - Most of all have fun, explore and experiment with this technique. 10 - Be kind to yourself and play! Sim xx

14.01.2022 Hi there! Where has the time gone? You feeling that too? Ive been a little quiet here in FB land... its been such an interesting time hasnt it!?... Ive had many of you ask when I will open up for classes again and my answer is hopefully Term 3 if I am able to have a full class (6-8 students). So thank you very much for your ongoing patience. With the current restrictions I can still only have three students in a class so I am focussing on producing more online goodies for you, mural work and artworks for exhibitions when we are back up and running! 07.01.2022 I just received a lovely testimonial for the piece I designed and then orchestrated a group class at Carol & James's home for his 70th birthday. We had a variety of 'students' and abilities but with the design and colours set and canvas ready to go they achieved a lovely piece that James will enjoy for years to come. Thank you for the opportunity and I am so glad you enjoyed the process and outcome. ... "Thank you Sim for a wonderful abstract art piece to celebrate James 70th birthday. What a lovely and memorable day you created for us. Your magic in designing and preparing a collaborative artwork which our family and friends painted on the day was exceptional. The techniques you used to keep it under control with seven littlies under five years old was truly amazing and the limited but perfect colour scheme works wonderfully for the painting's final hanging. Your teaching skills were apparent on the day as you orchestrated the many different painters, some with no previous experience, to contribute to it with ease. You explained to and encouraged each different person on the different techniques to optimise the outcome. It was such fun! And you made it so easy by supplying absolutely everything and coordinating the whole activity. It created a lovely, lasting family memory and the best birthday my husband has ever had!"

07.01.2022 Text to my students right now... and for my wonderful FB community xx To my beautiful artist friends... Such a tricky time. ... Ive been obsessively watching the news and waiting for the time. I think its now. This may even get imposed very soon but I feel for everyones safely and to be socially responsible we need to hit pause on in-person art sessions. It actually brings tears to my eyes as youve all become so incredibly dear to me and my time with you is my absolute happy place. Im getting organised and motivated to hit the online world - its daunting and a steep learning curve so bear with me. Im sorry to be sharing this news with you but sure youve all been feeling similar. Hopefully this takes any pressure off. Please know sessions paid for will be held in credit. Id LOVE to see you all on the other side of this and know I will see some of you in cyber world. Youve been so wonderful. I love you all to bits and thank you for bringing so much joy to my life.
