21.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM RMS We are taking this opportunity to keep you informed and updated on the Government COVID-19 restrictions and how they apply to boating during this unusual and ever changing time. The following update to the restrictions will help with the regulation of our waterways, and provide advice to boaters, particularly as we approach the Easter long weekend and NSW school holidays: Unless you have an essential need to be out - stay home.... For those thinking about taking a boat out or engaging in other water activities, as applies to everyone in NSW at the moment, if you don't need to leave your home, stay home. If leaving your home, you need to know that from 31 March 2020, NSW Government Public Health Orders have been updated requiring people to stay at home unless they have a 'reasonable excuse'. A 'reasonable excuse' to leave your home to use your boat could be to: 1. exercise (e.g. kayaking/sailing/paddling/fishing etc); 2. get to and from work, where the work cannot reasonably be performed from home; 3. get groceries; and 4. provide assistance, care or support to an immediate member of the person's family. Socialising or cruising on the water is not a reasonable excuse to leave your home. If you have a reasonable excuse to leave your home, social distancing rules always apply - at the boat ramp and on your boat. When on a private boat, because it is not a public place, the restriction on gatherings of more than 2 people does not apply. However, the skipper is to ensure there is 4 square metres of space for each person on board. If there is not 4 square metres of space per person, the skipper will not be complying with the Public Health Order. Onshore activities When onshore, do not gather with more than 2 people unless with members of the same household. This applies in any public place. Skippers must also remember their other safety responsibilities regarding safety equipment, alcohol consumption, keeping a proper lookout and proceeding at a safe speed. For the latest information on coronavirus and current restrictions, members of the community are encouraged to check the NSW Government website (http://nsw.gov.au) for regular updates. Transport for NSW remains focused on keeping you and the customer safe as a key priority.

19.01.2022 Maritime update regarding the use of the Murray River Due to the recent jump in Coronavirus cases in Victoria, boating restrictions on the Murray River apply. NSW waters are considered to commence from the high water mark situated on the Victorian side of the Murray River. People currently in Victoria who intend to enter NSW waters using a vessel on the Murray River must have a permit. ... This requirement applies to: each person on board a vessel entering NSW waters from Victoria all recreational and commercial vessels, including houseboats. NSW Police are patrolling the area and enforcing border entry requirements, similar to road travel into NSW. A person found breaching the Public Health (COVID-19 Border Control) Order 2020 faces an $11,000 fine and six months in prison. More information about border restrictions can be found here. You can apply for a border entry permit via Service NSW. People currently in NSW may continue to boat on the Murray River while staying within NSW waters. Transport for NSW encourages boaters to keep safety top-of-mind, including wearing a lifejacket, carrying the required safety equipment, regularly checking weather forecasts and being aware of the risks associated with cold water. We urge you to be aware of the increased health risk in Victoria, so please take extra care and be vigilant about physical distancing, minimising contact with others and maintaining good hygiene to slow the spread of Coronavirus. For the latest information on coronavirus and current restrictions, members of the community are encouraged to check the NSW Government website (http://nsw.gov.au) for regular updates. For a list of frequently asked questions we encourage you and your customers to go to the COVID-19 boating update. Transport for NSW remains focused on keeping you and the customer safe as a key priority. Kind regards, Alex Barrell A/Executive Director Maritime Greater Sydney Transport for NSW

15.01.2022 NSW Maritime Update I am pleased to provide an update on the restrictions for recreational boating. On 19 May 2020, the NSW Minister for Health signed an Exemption re Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order (No 2) 2020 to allow members of the same household to use their recreational vessel for all on-water activities even if the vessel does not allow for four square metres of space per person.... If the persons on the recreational vessel are not members of the same household, use is also permitted. However, the skipper should ensure a physical distance of 1.5 metres is maintained for each person on board as much as possible. Previously, vessels were only permitted to be used for exercise and individuals were required to maintain four square metres of space. Transport for NSW worked to ensure this Exemption to the Public Health Order was fast-tracked so that families could participate in boating for leisure and remove concerns about contravening the health orders. People should still only boat locally and always remember to practice good person hygiene. Commercial Vessels Commercial and charter vessels may operate but must ensure they are operating with the restrictions associated with their category of business and the required social distancing requirements. Onshore activities When onshore, do not gather with more than 10 people unless with members of the same household. This applies in any public place, such as a wharf or publicly accessible vessel. Skippers must also remember their other safety responsibilities regarding safety equipment, alcohol consumption, keeping a proper look out and proceeding at a safe speed. For the latest information on coronavirus and current restrictions, members of the community are encouraged to check the NSW Government website (http://nsw.gov.au) for regular updates. Transport for NSW remains focused on keeping you and the customer safe as a key priority.

01.01.2022 Some Southern 80 housekeeping for competitors, family and friends. TRAINING ON THE RIVER If you are out Training for the Southern 80, please be aware that you are on the water under Normal NSW Roads & Maritime regulations. All safety equipment must be carried in your vessel (e.g. bailing bucket, no bow-riding etc.). You must adhere to and OBEY all Maritime speed and No Wash zones. ... Do not ski through Wills bend. You must not be on the water before Official Sunrise. This Australia Day long weekend please be aware that many recreational users will be on the water so not a good weekend for any training. We strongly recommend that no one is on the water before 7.00 am and not upstream of 5 mile before 7 am as you are in the township of Moama soon after and we are struggling to fend off complaints. Also, remember the river is OPEN to all at these times, you must stay on your side of the river! We also recommend that no one train travelling downstream before 8.30 am. Failure to follow these guidelines can see the MWSC committee withdraw your entry from this year’s Southern 80 with no refund. SUBSTITUTIONS Please email any substitutions to [email protected], Before Friday 7th February would be appreciated.

01.01.2022 Congratulations to the team from Superman on your Southern 80 win. Full results can be found at the link below.
