25.01.2022 Tomorrow will be a sad day at Skye Medical and the end of an era as we say goodbye to a pivotal member of the team. Nurse Kate is leaving us to spend time with family over the holiday season and to pursue other interests in the new year. Kate has been part of the team since we opened our doors in September 2016 and has helped establish the practice to what it is today.... I know that she has helped many patients through some really tough times and will be missed by all. Goodbye Kate and good luck!!

25.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Dr Ramya Raman who was today presented with the City of Fremantle Aspire Award! The award provides a scholarship which will allow Dr Raman to attend an international conference to present on her area of specialist interest (health and wellbeing of women and children) as well as engaging with family doctors from across the world. Ramya is very humble even after such an achievement and we are so very proud to work with such a dedicated GP!

23.01.2022 Its not too late to get your flu vaccine! Just because were into winter already, doesnt mean that you cant still pick up a vaccine to last the rest of the flu season. As the rules and regulations surrounding the COVID19 pandemic start to relax in WA this may mean that other infections can spread such as colds and influenza.... Patients with chronic health conditions, pregnant patients, Aboringinal or Torres Strait Islander patients, children and patients over 65 are all entitled to free government flu vaccines today.

22.01.2022 We are happy to share the news that we have a friendly new doctor who will be joining our team from tomorrow! Dr Paul Ellis will be working with us until the end of the year and will be available at the practice every Thursday and Friday.

22.01.2022 Telehealth (telephone or video appointments) is now not only possible with your GP but also with certain allied health providers too! Heres a message from Emily, Brooke and Gemma at Better Health who are our dieticians to tell you a little bit about telehealth dietician appointments

20.01.2022 Hi everyone As you will be aware there is a developing situation with a novel (new) Coronavirus in China which can cause a serious viral infection. We do not know enough about its ability to transmit between humans so a high level of precaution has been advised by The Federal Australian and WA State Department of Health. We would suggest if you have specific queries with regards to this condition you contact the GP practice via telephone for a conversation -- please do not t...o attend in person without this occurring. **If you have travelled to China in the past 14 days and you have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or breathlessness; Please avoid contact with other people. Do not go into crowded places, or take public transport. Do not go to your GP** General practices are **not** equipped to handle an active case of this virus; suspected cases will be redirected to centres where appropriate precautions and definitive care can be provided; this will not be a GP clinic. If you have suspected novel coronavirus, you will require specialised investigation, isolation and treatment in a hospital setting. Following telephone triage we may deem it appropriate for **very low risk** cases to have testing done in our clinic. This will require a discussion with the WA public health unit first who will instruct our medical staff if testing is needed / allowed; as a result please do not attend for testing without discussing this in advance; testing will only be done on appropriate cases with public health specialist approval. If you are **unwell**, you can phone your GP, or your nearest emergency department or call the public health helpline for Perth Metro on 1300 62 32 92 for advice. If you believe you or a relative are **seriously unwell** call 000 as you usually would. Some additional information is linked below. Link for parents: https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au//Factsheet%20for%20Parents%20 Link for schools and early childcare centres: https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au//Factsheet%20for%20Administra We understand that advice will evolve as more information about the incubation period and the transmission of the virus emerges. At present the most current guidance for health professionals is available here reinforcing this advice: https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-information-s Hopefully this international situation will come under control quickly but we thank you in advance for your co-operation in working as a community to keep each other safe. Your Skye Medical Team

01.01.2022 **65+ government funded Flu vaccine** We have been advised that the government vaccines for issue to patients aged 65 and over should be delivered to Skye Medical on Friday. These vaccines have been **specially formulated for patients over the age of 65** who traditionally can respond less effectively to the normal influenza vaccine. We are inviting patients who are eligible on the basis of age to contact the practice so we can book you in to times that we are specifically a...llocating for vaccinating our patients aged **over 65** These sessions will be Saturday 28th March and Tuesday 31st March. PLEASE BOOK VIA TELEPHONE - the doctors appointment book **will not be visible online** to avoid being booked for other medical issues To maintain social distancing and infection transmission risks to potentially vulnerable patients **we shall be offering these outside our premises in the car park or garden vicinity** (details to be confirmed on the day). A brief wait to ensure no immediate complications or reactions (albeit low risk) after your vaccination is still recommended. We are happy to administer the flu vaccines outside of those times but hope that having specific sessions will make the process as efficient as possible as well as limiting unnecessary social contacts for all patients. The other flu vaccines will be coming and we will keep you up to date as we know more; this will in all likelihood be in the next few weeks. In the interest of clarity it is not believed this vaccine confers any protection for COVID-19 but it is sensible to minimise the risk of any other preventable respiratory infections during these uncertain times. Best wishes from your Skye Medical Team

01.01.2022 We are proud to say our innovative management design to provide safe, efficient and convenient influenza vaccinations this year has been picked up nationally by the Royal Australian College of GPs as one to emulate across Australia. Thank you so far to all of our patients and staff for adapting to these challenging times. If you havent gotten around to it yet please call our front desk team to arrange your familys appointment. #justanotherdayinwa #allinthistogether
