24.01.2022 Pathways Therapeutic Day Program Visit This week, the SMP team were invited to visit the Family Pathways Agency in Shenton Park to check out the purchases and upgrades made possible due to the recent 2forK donation of $18,500. Pathways are a state-wide service providing intervention, treatment and assistance to children (aged 0-12 years) with complex child and family mental health problems.... The 2forK donation to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Australia has allowed Pathways to purchase some much needed equipment and therapy tools to help them to treat the children in a meaningful way. Equipment such as trampolines and climbing equipment for gross motor coordination, games for the development of fine motor skills, height adjustable desks, social and emotional games, art therapy resources including clay and paints, and sensory processing tools were just some of the items that were purchased. The staff at Pathways were extremely grateful for the donation and after spending some time with them we were able to witness firsthand how much they appreciate the support. The 2forK donations are really making a difference for the kids!

20.01.2022 SMP Engineering is proud to be associated with the Perth Childrens Hospital Foundation since 2013 raising over $67,000 for specialist projects through our workplace giving program. The latest donation of $20,000 has enabled children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) manage their chronic illness in a safer way. Through donations like this, Perth Childrens Hospital Foundation has funded the provision of 20 insulin pumps to children and families with T1D. T1D is a condition requiring... lifelong management and treatment. Children living with diabetes regulate their blood glucose levels with the use of insulin, traditionally administered by regular injections. Sometimes this is as often as every two to three hours, including during the night, causing obvious discomfort and disturbance for both the child and family. Insulin pump therapy uses a small electronic pump that automatically delivers the right amount of insulin for each childs specifc needs via a cannula that sits under the skin. The doses are closer to what the body would produce if the pancreas worked properly. We appreciate being able to support families living with T1D with an insulin pump. Some families are struggling in so many ways and to have to manage a child with T1D as well is very challenging. We are thankful for the support of the Foundation in providing these pumps as we know it will improve the childs health outcomes as well as the quality of life for the whole family. - Liz Davis, Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes.

13.01.2022 Still kicking goals on QCLNG! At the peak of construction just prior to MC a high potential incident (HPI) was identified on a walk way, where a person could fall a significant distance from one level to another. SMP Superintendent Lucas Farrell (pictured right) identified the hazard and a spotter was put in place to ensure no one accessed the area. The correct tools where obtained to control and rectify the hazard immediately making the area safe once again.... 09.01.2022 "2forK" Update - Stitches Bear in my Chair Project SMP are delighted to provide another update on our Workplace Giving Program. The generous donations from our staff from FY14 and FY15 have allowed us to provide the seed funding for the Stitches Bear in my Chair Project at Princess Margaret Hospital. This project will allow children with long term illnesses to keep in contact with their peers, teachers and school during their stay at PMH and utilises the PMH Foundations ma...scot "Stitches the Bear". A small Stitches bear and an iPad will be given to selected primary school aged children who have a long term stay at PMH. The students enrolled primary school will be sent a bag/case containing a large Stitches Bear and an iPad. The large Stitches will then sit in the vacant childs seat during set times and the student can be involved remotely with their class via skype, FaceTime and other video capabilities. The purpose of this project is to prevent long term patients in childrens hospitals from being isolated from their peers and classrooms during admission. The PMH School does a fantastic job of keeping students up to date with school curriculum, however it cannot replace the real value of a classroom environment and interaction with peers. SMP has agreed to provide some additional funding using staff donations from this year to allow this project to expand. A total of 8 packs (each with 2 Stitches Bears, iPads, t-shirts and manuals) are now being created for four children at PMH to use. This project will be up and running very soon and we cant wait to get some feedback on how valuable it is for the kids. Thank you to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Australia for giving us this very unique opportunity. If you are an employee of SMP Engineering and currently not involved in the 2forK program, please speak to your Supervisor about how you can help. All other enquiries can be directed to Michelle on 9412 8000.

08.01.2022 SMP Engineering are proud to continue their support to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Australia through programs such as the The Stitches Bear in my Chair (SBIMC). This program allows hospitalised students to take part in lessons by connecting them to their peers in their own school in real time via an iPad. Please take the time to read the attached case study. If you are an employee of SMP Engineering and currently not involved in the 2forK program, please speak to your Supervisor about how you can help. All other enquiries can be directed to Michelle on 9412 8000.

05.01.2022 Another whip around = Another local charity benefits! Over the past month, our day and night (pictured) crews on the Tianqi LHPP project got together with the aim of benefiting a local wildlife organisation. Driven by the HS&E and Supervision team, our crews held BBQs and small events to raise $650.00!! The Darling Range Wildlife Shelter WA was selected and the donation was processed this week. Great effort team! Background: Darling Range Wildlife Shelter (DRWS) is a volunte...er and not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to rehabilitate native wildlife and promote the value of biodiversity. DRWS volunteers rescue, provide care and rehabilitate Australian native wildlife in need including threatened, endangered and migratory species. Each year they record around 1000 wildlife admissions. If you would like to know more about them or how you can help, visit their Facebook page or website at: https://www.darlingrangewildlife.com.au/

04.01.2022 Our Management team represented SMP Engineering on Friday night at Chamber of Commerce and Industry WAs Construction Industry Dinner at Crown Perth. 04.01.2022 SAVE THE DOLPHINS! SMPs nightshift crew on the Tianqi LHPP project were recently made aware of a local project lead by the Mandurah Volunteer Dolphin Rescue Group (sponsored by Peel Preservation Group Incorporated). The project will see monitoring cameras placed at dolphin stranding hotspots in the Serpentine River to enable faster rescue responses. The crew passed the hat around and with a small corporate top up from SMP were able to pull together $500.00 for the cause. S...ally from the volunteer group was thankful for the donation saying We are thrilled to hear this. It means a lot to our little dolphin rescue group!. We are proud of our team at SMP and are only too happy to help! Estuary Guardians Mandurah Background: Mandurah is a dolphin stranding hotspot with over a third of the resident dolphin population having stranded at least once, some many times over. Unfortunately the stranding sites are very remote and often a stranded dolphin is not seen and dies a painful needless death. This year an idea of having small field cameras overlooking the worst stranding sites has grown to having 4 specialised CCTV cameras permanently installed to give the wildlife officers and the volunteer rescue group eyes over these areas so faster rescue responses can happen. Peel Preservation Group Inc. (sponsoring Mandurah Volunteer Dolphin Rescue Group) has been fundraising towards the cameras.

03.01.2022 SMP Engineering was delighted to participate in this years "Quentin Broad Memorial Golf Day" hosted by Rio Tinto at the Vines on Saturday 9th November. The event that begun in 2010 is now held annually in memory of the Rio Tinto Operations Centre Controller who passed away from cancer. The original event held in 2010 helped raise funds to support Quentins family and since that time, significant donations have been made to the Cancer Council of WA. SMP Engineering were privil...eged to be invited as one of the days sponsors and Managing Director, Troy Cawthan and Operations Supervisor, Luke Findlater teamed up and played well enough to take out first place (with 10 under!!). SMPs second representative team of Josh Findlater and Michael Montgomery came in third. Young Luke also picked up longest drive for the day. Troy Cawthan: SMP are proud to have a long association with Rio Tinto and only too happy to help with such a worthwhile cause. See more
