24.01.2022 Not long now till the season gets underway! SMU Racing in full preparation mode......10 weeks till St George and counting!

23.01.2022 SMU Racing are proud to announce Teralume Industries as official lighting partner for the 2020 Australian Off-Road Championship Racing season. Driver Matt Hanson said, We are excited to partner up with Teralume for the 2020 season and can’t wait to see the full range which has been in design and testing over the last six months. For anyone who knows whether on the road or off the road out bush, precision lighting is key to getting there safely and, in our case, fast! We... have worked with Dan Lindley from Teralume Industries in a previous life and know that he is dedicated to providing premium products for customers that need the toughest and the best when off the road and importantly on the road when getting to where the fun begins. We will be covered in Teralume from our F350 truck traveling around the country from Alice Springs to Kalgoorlie to Rainbow, to the race car with night vision and coloured LED bars to the trailer with loading lights it will be day time 24/7! To see the full range of Teralume Industry products visit the website: www.teralumeindustries.com or Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/teralume/ For full story visit http://smuracing.com.au/?p=2148

So rather than doom and gloom we are pumped with our new Sportzprint Hoodie / T shirt design for 2020. It is times like these to get behind small businesses like Sportzprint who have been behind Off Road racing forever! Check out the new SMU gear online http://www.sportzprint.com.au///off-road/teams/smu-racing/ . Can't wait to take delivery of our new gear and get some happy team snaps doing some polishing 1.5m apart....enjoy the couch and be safe.

20.01.2022 It was extremely sad to hear of the passing of Garry Baker yesterday. He was such a character amongst the Off Road community and in particular those who camped at Christmas every year at Portland where he was part of the fabric. I shared many a late night phone call, email and coffee / red wine round the campfire at Portland and thoroughly enjoyed listening to Garry's words. His knowledge of all things off road ( everything for that matter!), and in particular off road comp...etition was rare and I treasured his words of advice over the years, in particular a long series of emails during the 2012 season when we were fortunate enough to win the Championship. Other than losing a terrific guy with a unique sense of humour, we have lost an enormous amount of knowledge - in particular knowledge of the sport we love, the cars we love and importantly, how to drive them. Portland will not be the same at Christmas and we will miss those afternoon dune drives with him and conversations around the tents and fires. All at Portland will miss this notable absentee at Christmas. It has been an honour to have known and spent time with the man. Posting part of an email I received from Garry as we were heading into the 2012 Championship.... "Lastly, a comment might be added. Major race teams know the loose nut in the system is an unpractised driver - who during a race should be as fast in the first 50 yards as he is in the last. Thus they have a ratio of five hours of free practice time to one hour of race time - consequently there's none of this warm up period, where the pilot says I got better as the race went on. Boxers have it, where an unpractised slugger will lose it in the early rounds - so what's the difference with Off Road Ergo, I'm suggesting a week, or even days before a given Off Road event, that you punt your old 1650 car around a track somewhere until it fits like a glove - given that speed is a relative thing with 10" of wheel movement, and being normalised to an Off Road environment is the habit being practised. Put simply, get used to the things that cause a winning streak ... opposed to talking about hopes and aspirations Naturally all of the above is theory(philosophy even), because even the best managed car can have a wheel fall off without the pilot hitting a tree or something - however good results usually come from a planned approach Anyway, I have a sense that 2012 could be a turning point for you All the best .... Garry" I never quite worked out who Ergo was but even reading these emails now, shows the character that Garry was. Condolesences to the Baker family and those close to Garry. Rest In Peace Garry, you will be sadly missed.

06.01.2022 The 2020 season is fast approaching with SMU Racing locked in for the Rainbow Rises 240 this weekend, the Cobb & Co St George 399 and Tatts Finke Desert Race for the first three races of the year. The car has undergone a massive off season as the SMU Jimco looks to hit the track fully pepped for the long season ahead. The team are pumped to announce that HJC helmets are again partnering with the team for the 2020 season. The team have been wearing HJC since the start of the... 2003 season and have never looked back. While the partnership became official in 2013, the team has been a big believer in the brand and always acknowledged that safety and comfort together were so crucial in Off Road racing and the main reason they are using HJC. Driver Matt and Navigator Nigel will again be wearing the AR10-III HJC helmets with the orange tinted visors with these helmets being lightweight and extremely comfortable. Kris from KT Autosports and Australian HJC distributor said, Keeping the team safe and comfortable in the AR10-III helmets is paramount and the boys were thrilled with the performance of these helmets last year. It was good see some other first time HJC Off Road purchasers in 2018/9 and give the great feedback that we received. For anyone who is looking at HJC Helmets, these are ideally designed for Off Road Racing. You can make contact via Face book at KTautosports or contact me direct on 0448 568 570. We have plenty of helmets in stock so you can try on the best style and size that fits. You will feel the difference straight away said Kris. Team SMU will be away and racing this weekend and again be wearing HJC! We cant wait..

01.01.2022 Great weekend at Rainbow, running in the Rainbow Rises 240. Awesome track (dry!) and good for the spectators.
