19.01.2022 Heartbreaking Loss in the APS Grand Final The 1st XV suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of a committed and determined All Saints team. Despite inclement conditions the crowd turned up in numbers as Bond University hosted the APS Final between the two rival schools. It would almost certainly be the first match this season played in rainy conditions for both schools and it certainly showed early on for Somerset as a few scoring opportunities were squandered. 14.01.2022 Somerset College 1st XV vs Coomera Anglican College 1st XV Result 52-3 win Another dominant display from the 1st XV saw them run in 10 tries to Coomera’s sole penalty. In sunny conditions at Wyangan ground the 1st XV started a little slowly and Coomera to their credit battled well at the breakdown to force the 1st XV to work hard for their ball. Eventually Fullback, Kai George broke the deadlock with the first of his 2 tries for the afternoon. Right Winger, Griffin Pugh was t...he next to add his name to the score sheet when he crossed in the right hand corner after a well-worked set piece play. Lewis Ioannou showed good acceleration and pace to score a try in each half. Hard running Loose Forward, Clayton Kennett was rewarded towards the end of the first half when he scampered 60 metres to score a well-deserved try. The second half tries were shared around with Kale Brenssell, Tim Evans, Tyrone Grace, Daniel Pang as well as the aforementioned Ioannou all crossing the line. Tyrone Grace was excellent with some huge chargers down the middle of the paddock to gain the 1st XV some great field position. However, he was pipped at the post for Man of the Match by Scrumhalf, Tim Evans, who despite his relatively small frame was superb in both attack and defence. Unfortunately of the 10 attempts at converting our tries only one was successful. This is something we plan to address as we look to the final in two weeks’ time. Try Scorers: Kai George 2, Lewis Ioannou 2, Griffin Pugh, Clayton Kennett, Kale Brenssell, Tim Evans, Tyrone Grace, Daniel Pang. Conversion: Josh Vuta 1 See more
