Smoking can cause bad breath, stained teeth and more plaque build up compared to non-smokers. What you may not know is that it can also cause Gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss and also increase your risk of Oral Cancer, something we are sure most of us want to avoid. ... A new research from a team at The University of Kiel, Germany, has also looked in to the increased risk for individuals with a genetically higher risk of periodontal disease (gum disease) and found that not only can smoke increase the risk of an early onset of periodontal disease, it can also push it to have a rapid progress into more severe cases than what initially may have been preventable, had the individual not been a smoker. Dr Ling graduated in 1997 from University of Sydney, and founded Sparkling Dental in 2008 with a goal of bringing high quality dental care to Sydney families. Her special interest in surgery has seen her return to Sydney Uni where she is currently undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants). 11.01.2022 Meet the #team Our amazing Dr Russell Cooke has just returned from New York, USA from the Greater New York Dental Meeting which is the largest dental meeting in the United States with 52.000 attendees from across the world and 1,600 exhibitors attended. Dr Cooke went over and has updated our team with the latest science from the dental world. One update which he found very exciting was that 3M have just released their 10th Generation Aesthetic material for front teeth. ... It is very important to be able to discuss improved properties and application techniques with scientists from 3M head office. Dr Cooke was very busy at the convention and each day he walked 18,000 steps getting between lectures and exhibit halls but we are now very happy to have him back with us here at Sparking Dental again. When you consume sugar, the acid-producing bacteria in your mouth are essentially being fed and they love to hang out on and around your teeth. 03.01.2022 Are you MouthAware? Did you know that one of the fastest growing deadly diseases today is Oral Cancer? According to the Oral Health Foundation one in three are not aware that smoking cause oral cancer and less than half of us don't know that alcohol also contribute to the disease.... There are a few simple steps that you can do to reduce your risk of the disease: 1 - Visit your dental professional regularly 2 - Check your mouth regularly - look for signs such as long lasting ulcers and/or red/white patches, unusual lumps in your mouth, neck and head area are common signs. 3 - Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol 4 - Use sunscreen - never forget to put sunscreen on your lips! 5 - Make sure to look after your teeth by brushing and flossing twice per day 6 - If you find or feel anything unusual, make sure to contact your doctor, don't just wait for it to hopefully get better!
