13.01.2022 Our broadacre agricultural grain growing regions of southern WA are fast approaching seeding time. COVID-19 travel restrictions are preventing seasonal workers from overseas from getting to our farms. At the same time the market for our Western Rock Lobster fishing industry has near-on collapsed, leaving many fisherman without work. The surplus of labour in one industry and the lack of labour in the other presents an opportunity for a win-win scenario. Stewart Ag and our frie...nds at Oceaneer Marine are well connected in our respective industries and see an opportunity to help out. We’ve created a place on social media to link farmers looking for help with fisherman looking for work. Much of the work will be driving large tractor and air seeder rigs for approximately 2 months. It’s standard for growers to arrange accommodation for employees Here’s how it works. COVID-19 has impacted the Fishing Industry significantly with seafood markets being shut down causing hardship to fisherman along our coastlines as boats are forced not to fish. As a result, the work force is beached leaving some families questioning what to do f...or work. COVID-19 is also causing turmoil in the Agriculture Industry as labour force, often sourced from international backpacker workforce is heavily restricted due to travel bans and quarantine regimes.
