25.01.2022 My dragonfly print with a little bit of flighty stitching and some lovely deep blue kimono silk lining #dragonfly #sashiko #textile #handmade #sewing #stitching #imadethis #clutchpurse #contempoarycraft #purse @ Broome, Western Australia

25.01.2022 So I think I cracked the secret to getting the perfect pindan colour. Happy with my most recent dye effort. #naturaldye #handmade #contemporarycraft #dyeing #threads

24.01.2022 So nice to be shared by the awesome KImberley Arts Network team. If you’re an arty Kimberley type, you can join KAN via the website and be part of the lovely community of creative people who make the Kimberley such a great place that gets your creative juices flowing

22.01.2022 I found this gorgeous cotton fabric in Chiang Mai in January-pre-covid. It’s hand-loomed with ribs of texture through it and I’m pretty stoked with the jacket I’ve made. The remnants will become hand- stitched items that enhance the raw material and make sure nothing goes to waste. That’s the joy of Stitch by night: textile value and stories.

21.01.2022 My stitched items are now on sale in Rockpool - go and check out this treasure trove in Johnny Chi Lane - chock full of local arts and crafts. You never know what you're going to find in there.

20.01.2022 one project completed.... a satisfyingly tactile basket completed.. the lining up-cycled from a beloved indigo shirt that I got a pink stain on. It lives again #handmade #contemporarycraft #textiles #basket #stitch #sewing #sashiko #upcycle

17.01.2022 I've updated my website with a few recent creations. You can also go and handle the real things at the Rockpool Broome gallery in town. Go and feel the materials. They're very nice.

13.01.2022 Going down the rabbit hole with colour choices. So enjoyable.... but so frustrating! Getting jus the right tone and density on the richly coloured textiles is joyous... but where does all the time go? I think I spent 2 hours last night, slowly adding drips of red to my mix.

13.01.2022 I've popped some new pieces up on the website today. They're all blue. Lined with blue-ish silk. I'm having a blue phase. But they're all unique in themselves. Free delivery for all the lovely Broomies. Here's the website: https://www.clancymcdowell.com.au/stitch-by-night

10.01.2022 Where to next? I’m we live in a special place and I would love to showcase that in my work ... but finding the ‘language’ is tricky. So I’m playing with dragonflies and pindan. Both very evocative of this place, but I’m still finding the right phrasing

10.01.2022 There is so much inspiration here !! Indigenous textiles have long been soemthing I've admired and felt close to living in the Kimberley.

07.01.2022 So, I got a bit excited and bought this skein of silk thread made from sari material. I’m now a little overwhelmed by its joyous colours and m not sure where to start. Any ideas? #stitching #silk #saris #threads #handmade #contemporarycraft #sewing #textileart

07.01.2022 My thread Pindan dying experiment is a #wip but I’m quite taken with this gentle pink of the silk thread. I think this little basket will be quite lovely. #dyeingyarn #handmade #stitching #sashiko #pindan #contemporarycraft #textileart @ Broome, Western Australia

04.01.2022 Never throw your off cuts away. Boro is a Japanese utilitarian craft that lengthens the lifespan of textiles and clothing by stitching and piecing. And in that process creates something new and beautiful. Now on the website https://www.clancymcdowell.com.au/red-boro-pouch
