25.01.2022 Round 6 of the Newcastle District Cricket Association premiership saw Stockton and Northern Districts take on Newcastle City Cricket Club in all grades and our partner club Port Stephens Pythons up against Redhead in the Suburban Districts Competition. In First Grade at Learmonth Park skipper Foster lost the toss and the seagulls were asked to bowl first on what appeared a good looking pitch. Early pressure was applied by Tom O’Neill and Lucas Sargent but Newcastle City fou...ght strongly to reach 2 for 80 at lunch and be in command. After the break, the Stockton & Northern Districts bowlers dominated to dismantle Newcastle City for 130 in 56 overs with Tom O’Neill taking 5 for 28 and Nick Foster 3 for 34. The seagulls finished day one in a strong position at 1 for 81 and continued with a strong start on day two, easily passing the total of 130 on the way to 5 for 228 (dec) with Nick Foster scoring his maiden first grade century with 102 and Keith Moody scoring 56 in another strong showing. After the declaration, Newcastle City limped to 6 for 117 at the close of play with Nick Foster snaring 2 for 17. A commanding win for first grade to continue the strong start to the season. At Lynn Oval, Newcastle City batted most of day one to post 247 on a typical Lynn Oval wicket. Brodie Cox was the star with the ball again with 3 for 42 and Kye Zanardi also chimed in with 3 for 58. Day two was all about the seagulls batsman as just about everyone that strapped the pads on was in the runs with James O’Keefe scoring 97 and Laurence Kelly scoring 91 as second grade finished the day at 5 for 360 for a dominant win. Third grade dominated the Newcastle City batting line up when the declaration came at 9 for 107 leaving the Seagulls a modest total to chase which was ultimately achieved comfortably after Ameen Khiyani peeled of off a watchful 55 not out. Stockton & Northern Districts declared at 2 for 121 as the push for an outright victory was on. Unfortunately, Newcastle City reached safety at 3 for 86 when stumps were pulled. Fourth grade couldn’t quite get the job done in their match at Corroba Oval. Newcastle City posted an imposing 6 for 170 from their 35 overs which proved to be too many for the seagulls as we could only muster 87 in response. Nathan Kench was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 47 and Mick Owens the best with the willow with 21 at the top of the order. In Suburban Districts our partner club Port Stephens Pythons were able to defend 76 in a very low scoring affair as Redhead could only scrape together 62 in response. See more

20.01.2022 Round 10 Recap Round 10 against Hamwicks saw strong results and performances across all grades and a slight extension in the lead of the club championship race. First Grade unfortunately ended in a draw after the Seagulls posted a strong 252 on day one at Passmore Oval as Keith Moody (131) scored a fine maiden century in the top grade. Keith's innings was one of immense patience and maturity in challenging conditions as he put the team in a commanding position only for the we...ather to intervene. Second Grade dominated their match at Lynn Oval from start to finish and secured outright points late on day two to extend their lead at the top of the table. Hamwicks could only muster 138 in the first innings on a flat Lynn Oval pitch as Brodie Cox took 4 for 50 to put the seagulls in the box seat. The Stockton batsmen then went about dismantling the Hamwicks attack as they posted 3 for 250 declared in response with Kye Zanardi scoring a find 134 not out and Laurence Kelly 57 not out. In the push for outright points skipper Lincoln Melmeth took 5 for 25 and the pumas were skittled for a meagre 84. The first of two one days games for third grade ended with a comprehensive win with a double bonus point win acheived. The seagulls posted a modest 107 with Cam Hainsworth scoring 27. In response Hamwicks scored 49. Tyler McInnes running riot with 4 for 18. Fourth grade also achieved a double bonus point win as they won by 10 wickets after Hamwicks scored 102 in the first innings. Alex Ward was the best of the bowlers with 3 for 14. Mick Owens top scored with 56 not out and Troy Newell scored 48 not out as the total was achieved without loss.

20.01.2022 The Summer Bash T20 day at Lynn Oval couldnt have gone better from the Seagulls with a big first up win over Belmont Whips. The Seagulls posted a very competitive 139 in tough conditions after three days of rain with Jared Humphreys top scoring with a stylish 42. In response Belmont started strongly but were quickly reigned in but the Stockton bowlers with skipper Nick Foster claiming 3 for 11 as Belmont were bundled out for 116. The second match of the day for the Seagulls w...as against the Maitland Flood and after losing the toss and having the bowl first the Stockton bowlers and fielders put on a dominant display with Maitland on managing to scrape together 96 from their 20 overs with Paul Kelly staring with the ball taking 3 for 15. The Seagulls opening partnership of Keith Moody and Nick Foster made light work of the total, chasing down the required runs without loss. Keith Moody continuing his fine summer with an unbeaten 66. Unfortunately despite the strong showing the gulls failed to qualify for the quarter finals.

04.01.2022 The 2020-21 Newcastle District Cricket Association season kicked of yesterday with mixed results for Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club in our first and second grade fixtures against Toronto Workers District Cricket Club. First Grade were defeated after bowling first and restricting Toronto to 186 with Lucas Sargent taking 3 for 22 in a fine bowling display. In response the seagulls lost early wickets but the lower order fought back to post 139 with Lucas Sargent capp...ing off a fine allround effort with 39 runs. In Second Grade the seagulls bowled Toronto out for 141 with Brodie Cox taking 4 for 27. The seagulls then made light work of the chase with James Beatty scoring 80 as the winning runs were hit with 11 overs to spare. The day had a tinge of sadness as the Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club said goodbye to former player Reg Stokes who passed earlier in the week. A minute silence was held by 1st grade and 2nds. See more

02.01.2022 The Seagulls Summer Bash campaign didn't quite get off to the start that had been hoped for in the clash with Newcastle City Sabres at Learmonth Oval. The Seagulls were without a number of key players but were fortunate to have replacements from the ladder topping second grade team. Batting first the Seagulls were only able to muster a modest 110 with experienced campaigner Sam Jenkinson top scoring with 47 from 36 balls. In response the Sabres reached the required total for the loss of 5 wickets with James Beatty taking 3 for 18 in four economical overs.
