25.01.2022 Dinner time!! This baby blue tongue was attacked by a cat when he was teeny tiny. An amazing vet nurse saved his life and nursed him while he recovered from his injuries. Unfortunately his rocky start meant he missed the chance to fatten up before winter. His chances of surviving brumation are slim so he will be wintering at the shelter and be released when it warms up.

23.01.2022 We might have been quiet on FB lately but we’ve been absolutely flat out at the shelter. Here’s just a snapshot of what we’ve been up to in the last few weeks.

23.01.2022 Today Narelle and I attended this poor roo in Kangaroo Ground. Sadly she had been hanging in the fence for a long time before anyone found her and called for help. We cut her free, but unfortunately her injuries were too severe and she had to be euthanised. She also had an active teat which means she has a joey out there somewhere - hopefully it’s big enough to survive without her. RIP beautiful girl.

19.01.2022 Just when we think it can’t get any busier... today Narelle and I attended THREE fence hanger kangaroos. We started with a little joey in Chirnside Park. He w...as caught by both feet in a barb wire fence. His desperate mother wouldn’t leave his side and taking him away from her was absolutely heartbreaking. We are hopeful he will recover and he’s now in the care of Bungalook Creek Wildlife Shelter. I hadn’t even made it home before the next call came in - a bigger joey in Wonga Park. This little boy’s mum was also still hanging around even though he’s a bigger bub (around 15kg). He was caught by just one leg which often results in more damage. No obvious breaks so we’ve cleaned his wounds and given him pain relief and hoping for the best. And then, before we even got home with #2, the call came in for fence hanger number three. This guy was in a bad way. His legs are fine - the wire wasn’t wrapped tightly at all. But unfortunately he was lying in a muddy puddle and was extremely cold and in shock. Thankfully the amazing Dr Tash was on hand to help - we have given him IV fluids, warmed him up and given him vitamins to hopefully prevent myopathy. He is very much touch and go but he is definitely worth a chance.

19.01.2022 This poor old girl lay on the side of a suburban road for god knows how many hours before anyone bothered to call her in. She was elderly and extremely emaciated and her body had given up. We moved her back from the road and assessed her but there was nothing we could do except to end her suffering.

18.01.2022 Time for another game of ‘What’s in the Basket?’. Turn the volume up! All will be revealed tomorrow. :)

16.01.2022 Reveal time - that strange noise was being made by these six adorable baby Eastern Rosellas. Their parents made a nest in someone’s roof and unfortunately the home owners didn’t appreciate the noise. The babies were sadly removed from the roof and taken away from their parents. Thankfully they are doing well in care and will be released as soon as they can care for themselves.

14.01.2022 Late last night Narelle and I attended an injured kangaroo in Warranwood. I actually tried to find this poor roo the day before - he was hit by a car but the person who hit him didn’t stop or bother to check if he got up or even an exact location of where she hit him. She called WV but with no location I was unable to find him. Thankfully he made his way into someone’s yard yesterday afternoon and they called us. He was mobile but clearly very sore. He’d hop a bit and then f...all over. We blanketed him and brought him home to assess him. No obvious breaks so we decided to keep him overnight and get him checked by the vet in the morning. So this morning we bundled him off to the lovely crew at Yarrambat Vet. They did xrays and thankfully didn’t find any fractures. Mr Bryson has now gone into care at Murrindindi Wildlife Shelter to rest up and get better! See more

13.01.2022 Just beat the mulcher man!! The possums will be happy with this haul. Us wildlife carers love it when they prune the trees around the powerlines!

12.01.2022 FOUND!!! Thank you so much for sharing, a kind person has contacted me to say they’ve got the net and will drop it back tomorrow!! Please share!! One of our amazing wildlife rescuers has had her large animal net picked up from the side of the Melba Hwy in Dixons Creek. She was searching for an injured kangaroo and put it down for just a few minutes, and when she returned it was gone. We are hoping that an honest person has picked it up thinking it fell off a ute. We use these nets every single day when rescuing injured wildlife. They are worth almost $500 and have to be shipped from America. We just can’t afford to buy another one. Please please share and keep an eye out. These nets are huge and hard to miss. Her net is just like this but the netting is green.

11.01.2022 Our Kinley Kangaroos have been given a short reprieve but the clock is ticking. Please email DELWP at [email protected] and let them know that shooting and bludgeoning our beautiful native wildlife is NOT ACCEPTABLE to our community. We have an experienced team of vets, darters and rescuers ready to go. These kangaroos do not need to die. Please email and please share.

10.01.2022 DELWP want to shoot these kangaroos instead of letting us relocate them. Joeys such as this will be bludgeoned to death while it’s mum will be shot. Meanwhile DELWP say that relocating them is inhumane... Please share and please email the minister to let her know this is not acceptable.

10.01.2022 Betty and Wilbur have been in care for a few months now. I’m not sure how they both still fit in this bed lol

07.01.2022 Victorians this is your government. They don’t care about wildlife, they want it exterminated. Our native animals are nothing but an inconvenience to DELWP. How can the same department be responsible for developments and land clearing, and also wildlife and the environment?? Please share and please contact DELWP and the Yarra Ranges Council and your local member etc and let them know this is not acceptable! https://au.news.yahoo.com/bloody-frustrated-developer-says-

05.01.2022 Release day! Back where she belongs.

03.01.2022 Narelle and I attended this beautiful big boy in Park Orchards tonight. He had some awful injuries but wouldn’t let us close enough to catch him and we didn’t want to lose him in the bush... So we called on the amazing team at Vets for Compassion. By now it was dark but Chris and Elaine headed straight out and darted him. Once he was asleep we assessed him and quickly realised the only thing we could do was end his suffering.
