25.01.2022 Business as usual - with a twist. Please accept my sincere thanks to all of my students who have continued to support me over these last few weeks. I am extr...emely grateful that we have managed to take all lessons online and that you haven't blinked an eyelid! We're all trying to keep a sense of normality with increasing stress & restricted ranges of movement. Isn't it great that we can still SING - sing our blues away. What a great program is ZOOM! It's a big leap from the Skype lessons I've given in the past and I'm loving teaching with this platform in so many ways. It's enabled some new people to come to me as students too: they are shut-in for various reasons and I've been thrilled that I can now help them too. Covid 19 or not, Zoom lessons are here to stay in this studio for the time being till I can have you here in my studio in person. It's also enables me to get to all the regional areas that not lucky enough to have a singing teacher/voice coach living close by. A simple link to your email and Voila there I am in front of you! So don’t sit around being bored and blue with this isolation timeLearn to sing. ****

24.01.2022 I totally agree here. It really is easier than you think.

23.01.2022 This looks like me with the COTTON TREE COMMUNITY CHOIR.

22.01.2022 The famous American conductor Isaiah Jackson was asked how old should children be before beginning music lessons? He responded "in utero". SO TRUE! It has also been demonstrated that children who learn music enjoy benefits in many other areas of learning-- for example, they have a longer at attention span, better learning skills, better hand-eye coordination and singers become more confident in the use of words. The preschool years are very important for the development of confidence and building singing skills. Singing is a natural thing and most children are born with the potential to to develop beautiful voices. I found this as I was having a clean out this morning and thought you may enjoy being reminded about how important singing is to us..

16.01.2022 Jodi... for you.

12.01.2022 The Vagus Nerve is the THE COMMANDER OF CALM & in my opinion deserves much more respect. For those who attend our meditation groups & sound healings, you might ...recall me talking about the sympathetic & parasympathetic nerves systems? (like about a thousand times probably) Sympathetic is fight, flight or freeze response (anxiety, stress) Parasympathetic is rest, restore, repair, recovery & renewal (healing, relax) Moving from one to the other system, is as simple as breathing correctly. It’s time we all learned how to breathe. Can you see the Vagus nerve in the pictures below? Now notice the Autonomic Plexus? Ok, stay with me. When you take deep diaphragmatic breaths (that’s when your tummy rises not your chest) your lungs & diaphragm apply pressure to the Vagus Nerve that runs from your brain down to all the vital organs. Breathing through the diaphragm in this way activates the Vagus Nerve, & Vagus Nerve activation is what you want. Why? Because it rapidly reduces anxiety & distress. (Look at all of the organs connected with the Vagus Nerve) When you breathe through your diaphragm, something truly amazing happens. You activate the Vagus nerve, which then immediately tells your brain to STOP producing anxious feelings & thoughts, & instead to start relaxing & feeling good. Here are two images of the Vagus Nerve. Notice how it’s connected to every organ? The Latin word Vagus means literally wandering or wanderer The Vagus nerve wanders throughout & it touches every organ in the body! Hence why anxiety is experienced & lives in our bodies not our minds! This is what happens when you breathe through the diaphragm- 1. You inhale fully, & deeply expanding your diaphragm. 2. As your diaphragm fills with air, the diaphragmatic wall pushes downward, like a balloon that is filling up. 3. When the diaphragmatic wall drops, it begins to squish your internal organs a liitle bit. 4. Wrapped around your internal organs is the vagus nerve, so as the organs are getting slightly compressed, so too is the Vagus Nerve. 5. When the Vagus Nerve is pressed, such as when you breathe through your diaphragm, it activates! 6. After activation, the Vagus Nerve sends a signal upward, through the spine to the brain, telling the brain to STOP the stress response, EVERTHING IS FINE, & to activate the RELAXATION response. 7. The brain can then reduce the stress response & everything associated with it (fast heart rate, shaking, nervous tummy, jitters, buzzing sensation, foggy confused thinking & sweating) & replace it with the comfort of the relaxation response! This whole process takes about 45 seconds. Yes. That’s right we can literally calm down & reclaim a sense of control over our emotions, in 45 seconds thanks to how our miraculous bodies are naturally designed. Amazing. So, the next time you are in meditation & I tell you to take a big deep calm breath, & feel your tummy rise... you’ll know why. Maybe consider trying it, now, & definitely next time you feel the stress response of the sympathetic nervous system. Several nice big deep breaths through the diaphragm.
