22.01.2022 HELP CORINNE YOUNG MAKE THE INVISIBLE DISABILITY VISIBLE Three years ago, I sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). I still have ongoing symptoms and treatmen...t and am thankful for the wonderful support of family and friends. I would be grateful if you could help us raise money for research and support to reduce the occurrence of TBIs and improve the outcome of those with TBIs. As my injury prevents me from being able to participate on the Run Melbourne event on 29th July, I will attempt 5kms on my treadmill over a few days. My family will be running in the event, some running 10kms! My wonderful husband Glen, pictured, is well into his training. Every year over 20,000 Australians are hospitalised with a TBI. Every dollar raised goes to support the work of Brain Injury Australia as the national peak advocacy organisation representing the needs of over 700,000 Australians with a brain injury, their families and carers - www.braininjuryaustralia.org.au Please donate via mycause: https://www.mycause.com.au//make-the-invisible-disability- See more

21.01.2022 In the vast majority of cases, people find it much harder to deal with stress after a brain injury. Coping with stress uses many different cognitive functions, ...such as recognising the symptoms, identifying causes, formulating a coping strategy, maintaining control of emotions appropriately and remembering these techniques. The brain is working harder to keep up all its fun...ctions, even ones that were once second nature. Eventually it is like an overload button, the brain needs a rest. Without rest it can lead to headaches, or becoming irritable, confused and sometimes increasing problems with behavior. What Can You Do for Cognitive Fatigue? (Share your coping techniques & advice)

10.01.2022 Hows your head? Taken a knock from a surfboard? A bump from a bike fall? Or a whack from a wayward golf ball? Summer can be filled with fun and games, unless you end up with a head injury. You cant see concussion, so make sure youre familiar with the symptoms this season.

09.01.2022 "THIS IS WHAT A BRAIN INJURY FEELS LIKE..." "....I didnt feel normal, but I looked normal. And that meant people treated me like I was normal. Our society real...ly isnt equipped for people with brain injuries, which are real but invisible. Even though I knew my balance wasnt good enough to stand on public transport, I was scared to ask for a seat on a crowded train. An injury no one can see doesnt inspire sympathy..." 08.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL CAREGIVERS OF A LOVED ONE WITH A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY! Caregivers are dedicated people who often go unrecognised. I want to find out how resilie...nce is sustained in relationships after traumatic brain injury (TBI)? Would you like to participate in a study about sustaining resilience? What are your challenges in everyday life? Participation is anonymous, and voluntary and will take around 20 25 minutes to complete. (This study has Ethics Approval through the Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee at Flinders University in South Australia - Project Number 7775). By completing the survey you are contributing to knowledge about what intervention can be implemented to support caregivers to achieve resilience in their relationships. This is the first of two stages of research. The second stage being an intervention through a controlled trial. The study is to be conducted by me, Christine Pryor. It has significance to me and my area of passion for improvement in the lives of all caregivers who provide care to a loved one who lives with TBI. More information is available at: https://christinepryor.wixsite.com/resilience where there is a link to the survey or go directly to the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CareTBI Thanks in advance for your participation!
