20.01.2022 It's so wonderful to get emails like this one from our #BeConnectedAU Network Partners - this one is from the newly formed #Rotary Computer Club of Katherine in the NT! (Katherine Rotary Club) and one of our newest Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association ASCCA Member Clubs! We held our first workshop today. The Rotary Park Training Room is slowly coming together and this morning we have 5 seniors and 3 mentors. Dennis worked with Barbara and she left happy because he ...sorted out a problem that was stopping her using her laptop. Andrew and I taught the other 4 how to create their own Facebook group and they happily swapped stories. We also helped Lori and Yvonne create a Katherine Seniors Facebook Page. They all expressed gratitude and we will be holding general meetings every Monday from 10am and specialist workshops on alternate weeks - see web page https://www.rotarykatherine.org/kcc Photo of today attached. Thanks Chris and #DigitalMentors!

04.01.2022 Possibly some of you are wondering what does this long time computer nut think of this new Covid Safe app that the government wants all of us to have on our sma...rt phones? My wife and I have installed it and strongly encourage all of you to do the same. NOW Question: Am I concerned that the government, police, etc are likely to get access for all sorts of reasons? Privacy issues? Answer: Not one little bit. Why? - Woolworths, Coles, Opal, your Bank etc already know heaps about you - what you buy, where from and when every time you use your credit card, flybuys, Opal card etc - The phone companies can track your phone now - Google, Bing and Yahoo know what you search for and may know where you are and have been. And then there's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Skype etc. - I'm under no illusions as to how important I am. If you feel you are more important then maybe you should be in much more upmarket FB groups and social circles. - I haven't been doing any drug running, money laundering, shootings, hold ups, kidnapping, terrorism, white collar crime etc. (Or at least at my age I can't remember doing them.) Why should you install it? - If enough people install it then these current restrictions are much more likely to be eased sooner. We would all like that - Older people are much more likely to die from the virus (not that any of us are old). If, in the future, you have been near some infected stranger or friend then wouldn't you like to know ASAP? - Australia is currently sitting very pretty with our controlling, certainly bucket loads better than Europe, the USA etc. Lets all strive to keep it that way - Lets ease the pressure on our front line health staff. They deserve our full support. If anyone has any questions then please put them in the comments or PM me. Also, if you feel like I do, then feel free to re-post this to as many as you can
