24.01.2022 Grow your food locally! A win for everyone. Stay tuned.....we'll be announcing the dates for the 2021 virtual edible garden trail very soon. And our physical trail is going ahead March 20-21, 2021!

24.01.2022 Hyperlocal food production is so important to a sustainable and healthy society. Great to see these initiatives....get ready for the Sydney edible garden trail 2021.... we're ramping up our planning for March next year!

24.01.2022 A GOOD NEWS STORY Amid the doom and gloom of Covid-19, a group of women have turned adversity into something totally inspiring. The Sydney Edible Garden Trail was to be a two day event celebrating the many ways that Sydney residents are creating food security, building self-reliance, saving money and the environment, whilst enjoying the health benefits of homegrown fruit and veg.... However, with 6 days to go and 67 gardens registered to open the doors the public, Covid-19 threatened the closure of the event and the team had to make some hard decisions. Do they cancel this project thats been 12 months in the making? Some fast creative thinking and willpower, enabled the team to pivot and go virtual within days of the event. They felt it important to honour the hard work that the garden hosts had gone to prepare their gardens, and all the work that the volunteer committee had achieved. As a bonus, it now meant that the gardens could be seen by many more people outside the Sydney area. Costa Georgiadis, gardening ambassador extraordinaire jumped in to assist the Sydney edible Garden Team and live streamed from 12 Gardens over the opening weekend and will be hosting more live streams over the final weekend. The Virtual Sydney Edible Garden Trail continues to attract viewers from around the world as humanity braces for a new way of living. Now a two week event, with extra videos on seed saving, hot composting, dehydrating food and more. With tickets at just $5, ticket holders are able to view the video feeds until end of May. 100% of profits will go to building new community and school edible gardens. The team has raised more than 10k so far, and tickets continue to be sold locally and internationally (www.sydneyediblegardentrail.com). A number of councils have now shown interest in bulk purchasing tickets to replace their sustainable event programs that have been cancelled due to COVD-19. What was going to be a huge disappointment for garden hosts and ticket holders, has turned into a truly inspiring re-imagined way to share the knowledge and passion of our Sydney edible gardening community. Please share this to help us increase awareness and share food growing skills to the world!

23.01.2022 Laurie La one of the coordinators of the Sydney Edible Garden Trail, is running this free sustainability event. Check it out!

21.01.2022 Were more than an edible garden trail! Whilst were passionate about our Sydney Edible Garden Trail project, were an amibitious group of women, with a drive and passion for doing more to build sustainable communities. You might not realise, but our vision for the The Sydney Edible Garden Trail was not only to hold a once a year project to celebrate the many ways that Sydney residents are creating food security and building self-reliance,... BUT to invest the profits from the trail to grow the community of edible garden resources across Sydney. We hope that through our sharing of gardens and how-to videos, weve inspired others to start up new community and school gardens, or improve existing ones. 17.01.2022 Interested in opening your garden? Be part of the Sydney Edible Garden Trail 2021 Gardens open 20 and 21 March between 9-4pm. We’re currently focussing on the areas where we have more knowledge of local food production but moving forward, we anticipate this to be a Sydney wide event. If you'd like to open your garden and live in any council areas north of the Parramatta River (Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Willoughby, Ryde, some parts of Parramatta, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Mosman and Northern Beaches), we’d love to hear from you. If you don’t live in these areas but are still interested, get in touch anyway so we can add you to our database for next year!

16.01.2022 Our story was published on the Humans Who Grow Food page! This is an initiative which educates and inspires people about growing food through stories of edible gardens worldwide and we are stoked to be there! Costa Georgiadis Official

16.01.2022 Think about the days that lie between now and resuming normal movement, says Georgiadis. Imagine if everyone is planting, providing habitat for our plants and insects ... and building biodiversity. Imagine all 20 million of us, doing something, the labour time if we put one tenth of that into a rejuvenation of our ecosystems. This is the stuff we dream about.

16.01.2022 Spring has sprung! Or is it Sprinter or Sprummer? And we congratulate our grant recipients - https://mailchi.mp//sydney-edible-garden-trail-3-weeks-and

14.01.2022 Technically illegal crown land.....but what a great initiative!

14.01.2022 Food is such a precious resource. It seems such a waste these days to consider throwing it in the general waste particularly when it cam then cause such issues with methane gas production. So good to see composting happening on a larger level. We have ShareWaste here which is also fantastic but relies on individuals to be proactive not government.

13.01.2022 Just a reminder that I will run a free workshop on natural soap making tomorrow evening at 7 pm!

09.01.2022 Did you register to open your garden in 2020? If you missed our recent email, here it is. Please get in touch.... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Garden Hosts What a year! Who's ready to say goodbye to 2020 and say hello to 2021?... With all of the events happening around us, we believe increasing awareness of growing your own food, connecting with and supporting your local communities are more important than ever. For many of us that have been confined to our homes this year, we're sure you've found a new appreciation for your garden! Despite the physical trail being postponed this year - we still managed to provide grants to 8 local schools and communities . Thanks to everyone who participated in the virtual trail check out the recipients on our website: https://sydneyediblegardentrail.com/2020-grant-recipients/ We're keen to organize the trail in 2021. We're also realistic that the event will be different due to COVID and we understand that some people will still not be comfortable attending public events in person. As such the plan for the 2021 trail is as follows: We'll maintain the Virtual Garden Trail we're currently investigating a new format, away from Facebook (if you have any experience with webinars, livestreaming videos, hosting events online we'd love to hear from you). We're planning for the virtual event to be held prior to the physical trail and we need your help to decide on dates. We'll also maintain the Physical Garden Trail as from the recent survey we conducted, people have told us that although they enjoyed the virtual trail, they really want to see the gardens in person. We're currently planning for the physical trail to be held after the virtual event on the 20 to 21 March 2021. To ensure we have a COVID safe event, we'll prepare a COVID safe plan which will be provided to you prior to the event (we'll finalise the plan closer to the event as the situation may change. If you'd like to see the draft plan, just let us know). Each garden owner can determine the maximum number of visitors to each garden as each garden will be different in size (but we will recommend no more than 20 at any given time). We'll also communicate to all visitors that they must wear a mask while in the garden and remind visitors that they may be refused entry if they don't wear a mask. We've prepared a form to gather your feedback on participating in the 2021 event and would greatly appreciate if you could complete it by 25 October 2020 so we know what you're thinking. To access the form please go to the following link: https://forms.gle/1rWXW6VYFDPM8YsN8 We're also happy to received your feedback via return email.
