11.01.2022 **$20K Small Business Write Off EXPLAINED** I have had many clients ask me how this works, unfortunately it is not the cash wind fall that many people may think it is. Please refer to my notes below: - You do not get back the money you spend. If you spend $20k you will NOT get back $20k.... - If you spend $20k on a business asset, your business can claim the cost of the asset as an expense. This will reduce the profit of your business for the year. - The saving you make will depend on the profit your business is making, for example: 1. If your business is making a Loss, you will save nothing as your business never had a tax bill to pay anyway. 2. If your business had a profit of about 40k then you would save around 20% of what you spend. 3. If your business had a profit of 60k then you would only save around 30% of what you spend. 4. If your business had a profit of 100k then you would only save around 40% of what you spend. 5. If you are trading through a company that is reporting a profit, the company would save 30% of what it spends. In summary: - You only get back a % of what you spend. - It is not a reason to spend money for the sake of spending money. - If there is something your business needs and you can afford to buy it then there is an extra incentive to buy it now. I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Thanks, Chris Laina

08.01.2022 EFT TAX REFUNDS. From 1 July 2013 the ATO require all tax refunds to be made via EFT. Cheque Refunds are no longer an option.

07.01.2022 Do Not be FOOLED before 30th June!! PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE > Getting private health cover before 30th June will not achieve much for your tax return this financial year, as you will only be exempt from the MLSC for the few days of the year that you have the cover. > Also if your family income is below the threshold then there is no tax benefit in obtaining the cover.... BUSINESS PURCHASES > It is true that small businesses can write off expenses purchased that are under 20k. > Be aware that being able to write off an expense only entitles you to a tax offset for a % of the amount you spend. > Depending on your taxable income the saving is typically between 0% - 30% of the amount you have spent. > With the above in mind, do not spend money for the sake of spending money. > As a general rule you should only buy something for your business if you need it and you can afford it. Do not spend money for the tax benefit, it does not make sense. TAX ADVICE FROM SALES PEOPLE > Only registered Tax Agents are allowed to give tax advice > Tax Advice from anyone else should be disregarded or confirmed by a registered tax agent. > I would be very skeptical of any advice from someone that is trying to sell you something based on that advice.
