06.01.2022 Did you know that there are only 2 species of Orangutan, they are called the Bornean Orangutan and the Sumatran Orangutan. Personally I can not wait to see the Bornean Orangutan. I also learnt something new today, that being that there are two different types of male Orangutan. Flanged and Unflanged. Flanged Orangutans have Big Cheeks called Flanges and a throat sac, whereas Unflanged Orangutans look like females and can reproduce. Unflanged Orangutans also can change to Flan...ged Orangutans, but we don’t not fully understand the conditions in which this occurs. As part of our expedition we get to visit the world-renowned Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where we will see orphaned and injured Orangutans before they are released back into the wild. This is certainly a tick off of my bucket list!! I’m still raising money for my trip, I’ve had some very generous donations so far I am very grateful but I still have a long way to go. 02.01.2022 On 21st of September 2019 I will embark on what I am told will be a life changing school expedition with a group of students from my High School. I am going on a 4 week Camp International trip to Borneo. I will post about what we will be doing, what we are told to expect, places we will visit and more along the way. I hope also to post about my experiences during and after my trip. I am very excited and just a little nervous about this experience but to keep me occupied until... then, part of my expedition is to raising the money to go and to put towards the work we will be doing once we get there.
