With the age of computer technology the tax office is able to automate it's checking system of your deductions in current time and compare your claim to that of other people doing a similar job. ... The warning here is please ensure you have proof of your deductions and that your deductions have not been reimbursed by your employer and of course are related to your income. Tax office call centre staff have actually phoned employers to follow up and confirm job positions and roles to understand how your claim is relevant to your position. 20.01.2022 I've been approached by a few people recently, embarrassingly stating that they have 'a few years' to catch up with in regards to their tax lodgements. Please don't let that stop you from contacting me! Let's get it done and then you don't have anything to feel uncomfortable about. The most amount of returns I have had to lodge to 'catch up' for one client was 14 years. For me, I was surprised they had kept all the relevant paperwork! It was always something they were going to do, but never got around to it. There was visual relief when I presented the completed returns for signature.
