24.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY!! Today the world celebrates International Dog Day. We celebrate all breeds and recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues. We honour family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - they protect our families, assist their law enforcement partner, help their blind companion, for the disable...d, and so much more ... Let's help celebrate by posting pics of your beloved furry friends! #ttgvet #internationaldogday

24.01.2022 Recently during our lockdown we remained open for the essential treatment of pets and this is the perfect example of how important it is that we do. Melvin needed treatment immediately as his owner noticed something in his eye. Turns out it was a nasty grass seed so we made sure it was removed quickly and safely. Earlier last week we talked about grass seeds and how dangerous they can be for our pets and this video shows just how they embed themselves just about anywhere. Melvin is doing much better now and has recovered nicely. #ttgvet #grassseed

18.01.2022 How important is cat enrichment? Cats are often showing us their independent nature which makes us feel less guilty about leaving them alone at home. But, they also like our attention with mental and physical activity to keep them stimulated. Bored cats can exhibit unwanted behaviours and can take out their frustrations by way of scratching our furniture, toileting accidents or even aggression. Enrichment is a method used to help our feline friends with occasions to expres...s their species appropriate behaviour. All cats need an enriched environment and this is especially true for indoor cats. Providing this does not have to require a lot of time, money or effort and your cat will love it! Build a house, tunnel or even make a maze from cardboard boxes, cut some windows in it and watch them explore their new little world. Browse the internet, there are many ideas on DIY projects. There are many simple ways to stimulate your cats mind and body with simple DIY projects with items you probably already have in your home. Grab a cardboard toilet roll with holes cut in it big enough for kibble to pass through, fill it up, fold down each end and give it to your cat, watch them have fun rolling it around trying to get the food out. Making mealtime fun, challenging and interactive is a great way to satisfy their instincts and curiosities. Every meal is an excellent time for enrichment! Using activity balls, puzzle feeders and scattered food will encourage extra movement. Making feeding puzzles are simple and will slow down the rate which your cat eats and activate the natural hunting instincts in searching for food. If you would like to read more about making your home cat friendly, follow this link: https://icatcare.org/advice/making-your-home-cat-friendly/ We would love to see your own ways you keep your felines busy or different ways to make mealtimes fun! #ttgvet #welovecats

16.01.2022 PET HEALTH IN WINTER Winter can be a challenging time for us and our pets to motivate ourselves to get outside, however a few simple steps may help make you both more comfortable. Sore Joints... Winter can be the time of the year when we notice that our pets are starting to age and are struggling with stairs or not as keen to jump up. Arthritis can be painful for our pets but we are able to help relieve the pain by booking an health assessment with us. A few things we can do at home to help is to bring your pets inside, if they are usually outside, move their bed somewhere warm and dry away from cold drafts. Putting on excess weight We all struggle with this over winter and if mismanaged it can be a severe health issue. Try to keep a regular exercise schedule with our pets even when its cold outside and its important that just because they are possibly inside more often than usual we don't overfeed by offering more treats than normal. Overfeeding can also put pressure on sore joints and worsen the pain. Give us a call to go over a balanced feeding plan and amount of exercise for your pet. Bonding with your Pet Exercise is not only great for weight control, controlling boredom but also strengthening our human - animal bond. The benefits of getting outside are not just for your pet. Time spent together outside can decrease stress levels and lower blood pressure. The relationship we share with our animals is unique and can provide comfort at all times. So, when the weather is chilly, consider a walk with your furry friend, their mental health and yours will certainly benefit from it! #ttgvet #winter

16.01.2022 Dr Mel loved having Herbie around for a day stay for cuddles and treats, we also managed to desex him while he was here! #ttgvet #welovecats

14.01.2022 This is Stella, a 9 month old French Bulldog. She was in last week to undergo surgery for her Cherry Eye. Cherry Eye looks like a very red lump in the inside corner of the eye. Although it looks quite angry and red it generally does not cause any pain although it can be quite irritable/itchy for them and can interfere with tear production and can cause conjunctivitis. If left untreated it can lead to irreversible damage to the third eyelid gland and corneal surface and can be correct surgically. If you start to see this happening, come in and have a chat with one of our friendly veterinarians to work out what's best for your furry friend. #ttgvet #frenchbulldog #cherryeye

14.01.2022 Luna is gorgeous! She is a 2 year old Border Collie who stayed with us while she underwent Orthopaedic Surgery. She is now back with her lovely owners and doing really well with her recovery. #ttgvet #bordercollie

14.01.2022 This gorgeous cat is 10 year old Lewis. Lewis was reported missing to us by the owner 16 days earlier. Some wonderful people had noticed Lewis in their area who seemed a little lost and bought him in to us to see if he had a microchip. He sure did and the owner was delighted that we were able to reunite them both. Microchipping your pet is extremely important. If your dog or cat is lost or stolen, the chip and it's registration is definitive proof of ownership. The ch...ip greatly increases the chances of your pet being returned to you. If your address or contact number changes at any point, please remember to update the microchip information as soon as possible, there is no point to a microchip if the information is not up to date. Lewis is very lucky to have such a caring and responsible owner and is now back in his usual spot at home on top of the couch! #ttgvet #theimportanceofmicrochipping

13.01.2022 This gorgeous little American Staffy Terrier pup had a little accident while she was being adventurous. 12.01.2022 This beautiful Rottweiler Kane had a short hospital stay with us to be desexed and while he was here we also removed his hind dew claws. 12.01.2022 These two little Adelaide Rosella’s were handed into our hospital by a member of the public. When they arrived there were approximately 1 week of age. They were hand raised by one of our nurses Lisa with regular feeds via a syringe. They are often noisy and chatter to one another in large groups, also calling out in a high pitch rapid Pi-Pi-Pi-Pi.... These two were cared for until they were able to be released back into the wild. #ttgvet #adelaiderosellas Did you know we now sell gift cards? PURRfect timing with Christmas fast approaching! 08.01.2022 WEE BIT OF PEE! Snapshot of all the different colours in urine samples lined up to be tested! A urinalysis can tell us so much about your pets health. We can screen for several things such as urinary tract infections, renal functions, diabetes, bladder stones and crystals or incontinence problems. ... We are able to run the urinalysis here at the hospital which can then help us determine the next step in keeping your pet healthy. When bringing your pets urine into the hospital to be tested, you can pop in to see us to pick up a free urine sample pot or collect it in a clean, dry container (takeaway, or margarine container). It is always best to collect your pets first urination of the morning and bring it in straight away for testing. It is well worth the effort! #ttgvet #vetnurselife

08.01.2022 This is Chilli! We all met Chilli a while ago when he fractured his leg back in June and was given some beautiful bandage art. Last week he was back in to see us as he had a nasty grass seed stuck up his nose! Surprisingly grass seeds at this time of the year can be quite dangerous for our pets. The tip of a grass seed is shaped like an arrow which can easily burrow into fur migrating through and under the skin making it quite uncomfortable causing painful wounds and infec...tions. All of our pets can be susceptible to grass seeds but is much more common in dogs. The most common places these seeds can be found are the chest, nose, ears and paws but can be found all over the body. It is important that these grass seeds be removed as soon as possible so just a quick check over your dog after every walk is recommended especially in between their toes. If you notice excessive licking, violent sneezing, shaking of their head or even a constant head tilt can all be signs of a grass seed. The best practice is prevention. Walking on paths on a lead in these months, avoiding long grassy areas and even contacting your local council to report these areas for maintenance. Dr Mark Reeve recently had a chat to Sonya Feldhoff on Adelaide ABC Radio about grass seeds and you can listen here by clicking on the link below: https://www.abc.net.au//pro/afternoons/afternoons/12841388 (starts at 1:39) #ttgvet #grassseedseverywhere #australiankoolie @thelifeofchillidog
